How soon after 6 months can people book boosters?

I had my first Covid jab start Feb, 2nd start April, so I’m just a bit over the 6 monthsfrom last jab now. DH was offered to book his booster 3 weeks ago, pretty much on the 6 months. But no one has contacted me and when I try to book online it says I’m not eligible and wait to be contacted. I was in the CEV group so I was done well in advance of my age group, though I am in the over 50 group anyway. GP surgery will not discuss Covid boosters in any shape or form. Do I just need to be patient? Am I being too hasty? I’m a teacher and in contact with an insane amount of Covid at the moment so justifiably anxious about waning immunity!

I am in exactly the same situation. My husband had his booster last week and he had his 2nd covid jab a week before me. I have tried to book via the website and it states that I'm not eligible. I am over 50 but I think I was vaccinated early due to an underlying medical condition.I am now over my 6 months. My husband said that when he attended our local vaccination hub last week, it was really quiet. I have noticed there is a lot in the news today about delay in booster uptake, probably because when we try to book it states we are not eligible , hopefully it will start to ramp soon and we can all get our boosters when due.

Upsky · 19/10/2021 15:33

I keep trying online for DH but it now says (didn't before) that you can't actually book until after the 6 month date. His 6 months is tomorrow.

Jimmychoo69 · 19/10/2021 16:24

Update: Just rang 119, automated message stating that they cannot book booster appointments unless you have been contacted by the NHS as they use the same system as online. So, although I am eligible I cannot get my booster until I am contacted by the NHS, total incompetence as usual. 119 total waste of time. If anyone gets a booster without been contacted, please let me know how?

REDHERO · 19/10/2021 16:42

@raspberryrippleicecream

I got mine, six months to the day at a Walk in Centre. All they needed was to confirm eligibility.

I also got a GP invitation that day, and my NHS invitation the next day.

Our local walk in centre is only offering 1st and 2nd doses no booster at all. I have checked within 70 miles and no booster available at walks in. Just have to wait around. I'm 7 months since my second since CEV
FourTeaFallOut · 19/10/2021 16:48

That was weird, was just on this thread thinking mine must be due soon and got a message from the surgery to book my booster. Technically, I could have it from the 23rd but there was no appointments till early November. Brilliant though.

Just off to the money board to see if someone calls with inheritance from a long lost relative.🤞

SleepyMathematician · 20/10/2021 00:09

@REDHERO I feel as though CEV are being thrown under the bus a bit with this. Huge rush to get us done early in the spring and silence now. Not so long ago they were sending me a letter saying everyone in my household could be vaccinated to protect me. Now, shielding over and apparently just ignored over this.

We got a text for my sons booster. There were hundreds being done at once I was very impressed with how organised it was.

HundredMilesAnHour · 20/10/2021 00:19

I had my booster today. I received a text yesterday with a link to book. I had my first vaccine back in Jan. The centre I went to today was most definitely not accepting walk-ins.

raspberryrippleicecream · 20/10/2021 00:27

I'm sorry it's not the same experience for everyone, I hadn't realised how lucky I was in my area (NW).

DynastyBarry · 20/10/2021 00:41

I had a text for my third (not booster as cev) from nhs and booked it through my gp it's only been 5 months since second and can still have a booster in 6 months

3asAbird · 20/10/2021 03:30

I think it varies regionally.

The booster roll out is slow.

I know some health workers managed to get theirs.

Nor sure all gps doing boosters.

DottyHarmer · 20/10/2021 09:19

DynastyBarry - my GP said he’d never heard of third doses, and no joy anywhere else. Even the hospital consultant directed me back to GP.

SparklingLime · 20/10/2021 09:58

That’s appalling, @DynastyBarry, I’d contact your CCG and/or the practice manager.

SparklingLime · 20/10/2021 09:59

Sorry, meant to tag @DottyHarmer there instead.

Upsky · 20/10/2021 16:09

Today is 6 months to the day since we had 2nd dose. The website wouldn't let me book yesterday but will today.
I have actually got my 3rd dose (immunosuppressed) booked at GP next week and will get booster 6 months later.

NeverBeenNormal · 20/10/2021 21:50

My DM in her late 80s had the second jab in early January. She's still not been contacted re getting booster although several of her friends of the same age / same GP practice / vaccinated at the same time were called a month ago and had it.

We waited and waited until the weekend. When I heard that people in their 70s were being jabbed, I went on the NHS website and managed to book DM in for Friday.

The comments in the media about 'low update of boosters' is perhaps because people aren't being invited in the same way as before and are doing as they are told by waiting to be contacted.

DM had flu jab invitation earlier this month with no problem at all.

HeronLanyon · 20/10/2021 21:53

Feel like I’ve lost all track. Walk in centres where you
Can go
And get your booster ??? Never heard of this. I assumed we were all waiting for our text or call invite.

Try the online portal. I had no problem booking DM in for a booster and she hasn't been contacted at all.

Look at your local CCG website or FB page. They will publish where vaccine walk in clinics are and which ones offer boosters to those who qualify. Or just go online to the vaccine booking website. That's how I got mine back in January, not via GP. Many GPs are not doing booster vaccines at all so if yours isn't you'll be waiting a long time. Even Javid said at press conference to book online.
Wingedharpy · 21/10/2021 00:01

Yes. Local Facebook pages are a good resource. In my area they often post to say walk in and get your booster on days x, y and z as we have spare capacity. Providing you have evidence that it's been 6 months since your 2nd jab, they will oblige. My "evidence" was, I can't show you anything but I can tell you the date. This was accepted.
May have a bit of a wait in a queue but if there is capacity, they should oblige.
Good luck all.

480Widdio · 21/10/2021 00:09

I had my second vaccine today at a walk-in centre,no booking necessary,it was busy.181 days since my second dose.

The Covid website has a list of walk in centres, which doses they are giving and opening hours. It really should be advertised more.I found it on my local Facebook Page.

Cosywosy · 21/10/2021 00:14

I had my third vaccine two weeks ago along with flu vaccination. I received a letter from NHS, previously it was done by GP. I'm classed in the CEV group and I'll get a booster too. I'm in Scotland, not sure if process is different here.

ajandjjmum · 21/10/2021 00:43

@DottyHarmer

Is the 6 months to the date, eg if on 2 April it’s due 2nd October, or 24 weeks? I can’t find this information anywhere.
It's by the date not the weeks.

We had someone arrive a couple of days before their two months, and 'computer said no'!

ajandjjmum · 21/10/2021 00:46

I think people are waiting because that is what we were told to do at the beginning of the pandemic. There's nothing to stop anyone who's eligible for any vaccine from getting online or on the phone to book it.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 21/10/2021 00:47

I booked via the nhs app thing exactly 6 months after my second jab.

Received a text and email the next day.
