Liklihood of another lockdown?

Yes I know nobody can tell the future. But I'm just wondering what the general consensus is/ how likely you think another lockdown is? I'm hoping worst case masks again.
I want to start my daughter back at a club she went too, we stopped because she doesn't get on with zoom lessons and it was a waste of money during lockdown. Worth signing her back up or waiting a bit longer?

*Maybe because I don't want the CEV to be treated like sitting ducks.

Which is exactly what they are without restrictions.*

How are CEV people being treated like sitting ducks when they are fully vaccinated and about to receive a booster? How long do you expect people to put their lives on hold for? How much more can be done realistically? There are always going to be people who are vulnerable to something- that is life and it sucks but it is what it is. Society can't perpetually grind to a halt because of it- because that causes serious harm to another group of people.

You really do want this to go on forever don't you, and enjoy your false sense of moral superiority when doom-mongering on here.

PaperDolphin · 14/09/2021 18:18

Schools have been back 2 weeks and cases have just started falling...

marieantoinehairnet · 14/09/2021 18:19

@Claudethecat

Confronting and disputing bigotry is always a good thing *@marieantoinehairnet*
My observation of a real life experience isn't bigotry, did I touch a raw nerve?
QueenLagertha · 14/09/2021 18:23

@NannyAndJohn do you realise the knock on implications of further lockdowns/restrictions?
i.e decimate our economy, increase house prices, increase taxes and national insurance, impact on education, physical/mental health, increase poverty not to mention serious implications for children who are already vulnerable.

Can you honestly not see any of this?

Do you think we should keep locking down for years?

TheKeatingFive · 14/09/2021 18:27

Maybe because I don't want the CEV to be treated like sitting ducks.

But the non covid vulnerable whose position is badly affected by lockdowns can go take a hike?

The message is loud and clear namny

Bordois · 14/09/2021 18:27

QueenLagertha, have you not had the pleasure of Nanny before? 🤣

TheKeatingFive · 14/09/2021 18:27

She doesn’t give a flying

@CorrBlimeyGG

Our local hospitals have been on Opel 4 alert level for two weeks now, they're asking people to consider going to other hospitals in emergency situations as A&E cannot cope.

Hospitals are not managing. They are overwhelmed now. If this does not improve before winter, it won't just be people dying from covid we need to be worried about.

What are A&E overwhelmed with? It's not Covid cases.
QueenofKattegat · 14/09/2021 18:30

Hopefully WFH is here to stay

This is such a selfish thoughtless comment.

If "everyone" (I assume this applies to office workers only) has to work from home forever what do you think happens to the offices? To the cleaners who clean them, the security staff who monitor them, to the companies who lease and own them, to the coffee shops and cafes that are built up around them. What happens to all of this and the people who will lose their jobs amd businesses? Do they just all go work at amazon to bring you stuff whilst you sit at home?

Claudethecat · 14/09/2021 18:31

If disliking the casual ageism thrown around sometimes on MN is classed as “touching a raw nerve" then the answer is yes @marieantoinehairnet. You touched a raw nerve with MNHQ too.

QueenLagertha · 14/09/2021 18:31

@Bordois completely baffled. I'd probably be better off beating my head against a brick wall than trying to change her mind 😂

LegArmpits · 14/09/2021 18:32

John must be so bored of you, Nanny.

EasterIssland · 14/09/2021 18:32
@MarshaBradyo

It depends on the uptake of the booster for the over 50s.

I may not take mine, despite having had two jabs. Because quite frankly I'm fed up with it.
So you prefer to be only be allowed once a day and maybe risk your job or others job ? And put yourself at risk if you caught COVID?

Why should I bother and comply with the rules if those are risk don’t bother to get themselves protected

EasterIssland · 14/09/2021 18:34

@Bordois

Its that the same SAGE that was predicting over 100k cases and 6k admissions a day in July?
@Bordois that was nanny ;) think she wfh and is a sage member ;)
Cyw2018 · 14/09/2021 18:35

I'm in Wales and I think everyone is nervous about what stunt drakeford will pull this winter.

I really don't believe we should have anymore lockdowns but so long as primary schools and childcare are open then I can cope with the rest as DD is in playgroup and preschool now. I would finally be able to attempt/complete some of these fabled lockdown projects!!

merrymouse · 14/09/2021 18:38

What are A&E overwhelmed with? It's not Covid cases.

It is if they are short staffed because of Covid.

Porcupineintherough · 14/09/2021 18:39

@QueenofKattegat it's no more selfish than insisting that people beggar themselves paying for transport, waste hours of the day and damage the planet commuting just so that some faceless corporation can make big, fat profits out of commercial rentals and sell over-priced sandwiches.

So you reported me for telling what I saw with my own eyes yesterday, and you personally took offence and reported it - which is fine, as I don't believe you can be penalised for saying what you saw, there was nothing offensive in what I said, really some people
Proudplantowner · 14/09/2021 18:44

@Abraxan I read that it's the same people who were in groups 1-9, so you'll get one I imagine.

Claudethecat · 14/09/2021 18:55

@marieantoinehairnet. I reported your post for the phrase "it's the [derogotary term for older people] causing the problems if you ask me". Singling out any group in society for blame and referring to them in a derogatory and othering way is not on.

HalzTangz · 14/09/2021 18:55

There won't be more lockdowns, the government can't afford it

IcedPurple · 14/09/2021 18:57

At this stage, poor 'ol John must be contemplating a job on an oil rig in the North Sea.

Oldies?!

Really, it's not derogatory

If you feel it is, you probably need to get out more
