Liklihood of another lockdown?

Yes I know nobody can tell the future. But I'm just wondering what the general consensus is/ how likely you think another lockdown is? I'm hoping worst case masks again.
I want to start my daughter back at a club she went too, we stopped because she doesn't get on with zoom lessons and it was a waste of money during lockdown. Worth signing her back up or waiting a bit longer?

I had a blood test done today, the nurse doing it was chatting to me, she's a bank nurse and said she often works on the covid wards. She said that of the people in hospital at the moment, the majority are unvaccinated. She also said a large number of people are ending up on covid wards because of testing positive whilst in for something else, and aren't actually needing treatment for covid.

It makes me wonder about the accuracy of figures and how things like that are affecting responses. Surely if that is correct, further restrictions aren't needed?

That's what I've thought all along. My friend is a midwife and they have a dedicated covid ward for the ladies who have tested positive - they are included in the covid hospitalisation figures even though they aren't being treated for it because they are there to have a baby.

I remember a few months back, our hospital had an outbreak and the CEO even came out and said that the majority weren't symptomatic and didn't require treatment for Covid - they were all there for other things. Yet they were all included in the hospitalisation figures.

My dad made a good point recently. There's a lot about waiting lists over the winter. He has to go in for a routine colonoscopy, and have a a CT scan. As he pointed out - is he on the waiting list once, or will it be three times (the blood test, the colonoscopy and the CT scan)?

Two of the residents in my dads over 55s complex died “with covid” recently.

One died of a blood clot after a fall, the other died from complications after surgery to remove a tumour.

They didn’t have any covid symptoms at all, but tested positive while in hospital.

So there are many ‘covid deaths’ like theirs too where covid had nothing to do with it and they wouldn’t have been tested for it had they not been in for other things.

BillyJoe111 · 17/09/2021 13:04

(My dad know the ins and outs because gossip is rife, you can’t go to the loo there without everyone talking about it or texting each other),

They don't put covid-positive patients in ICU for shits and giggles.

That has always been the case but people like me are called Covid deniers for suggesting that the Covid numbers are not actually all down to Covid itself! Some are, some aren't.

She didn’t say ICU though, she said covid wards.

But you don't know if the reason they are ICU is Covid. If I had a stroke and was in ICU and was Covid positive I would be in those numbers. Man oh man

DumplingsAndStew · 17/09/2021 16:01

@BillyJoe111

I thought we were talking about the reported figures. Do they specify a number of people in hospital on Covid wards? I thought it was 'in hospital with covid' and 'in ICU'.

Yes, so it’s all people in hospital with covid. Symptomatic or not, if they were admitted for other things and found to have covid or admitted for covid symptoms, even if they were just in for a few hours before being sent home.

Not just those ill enough for ICU.

BillyJoe111 · 17/09/2021 16:24

Or like the above poster said, those people in ICU after another incident who test positive for covid but have no symptoms and aren’t being threaded for it.

I am in no way a covid denier - but the figures mean lots of things.

BillyJoe111 · 17/09/2021 16:26

Someone correct me if I’m wrong - I thought it was ALL hospital admissions who tested positive for covid? Not just those in ICU FOR covid.

Bordois · 17/09/2021 16:26

But luckily hospital numbers are all starting to drop in England now, hopefully it will continue 🤞

Its all those who have tested positive for covid, regardless of why they are actually there (except for Wales who include suspected cases)
BillyJoe111 · 17/09/2021 16:32

@Bordoisthats what I thought, it’s so easy to get confused with the everything!

[quote vera99]Zoe have said we should invoke Plan B now, of course, we won't so a lockdown gets ever likelier.

It's the Long Covid figures that really scare me.

800 a day.

And a lot of them will be children.

@DottyHarmer

Actually on BBC site today it says that long covid is not as prevalent as previously thought.

Bad luck, Nanny!

Yes we'll the beeb are deeply in the pocket of our esteemed leaders

@marieantoinehairnet

Actually thee BBC are simply reporting on a study done by the Office of National Statistics and not their own investigation:

www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/healthandsocialcare/conditionsanddiseases/bulletins/prevalenceofongoingsymptomsfollowingcoronaviruscovid19infectionintheuk/1april2021

But please feel free to crack on with whatever conspiracy theory that fits your own personal narrative.

marieantoinehairnet · 17/09/2021 17:37

I think the prospect of potentially being sick for 12 weeks post covid isn't really anything to crow about

Especially coming from a cohort who cried over having to have their own children at home for a few weeks.

Well this escalated into blatant goading quite quickly 🙄
