Mandatory Covid vaccine

Hello all.
I'm a nurse in regional NSW. Where I live we have not had a Covid case for 500 days. I work in a private hospital on a surgical ward ( all elective surgeries) mainly orthopaedic surgery but also gastric sleeves, urinary, hysterectomies and sone medical patients as the public hospital is full and we get some overflow.
Our government has released a public health order stating all healthcare workers who work in NSW need to have at least once dose of AstraZeneca or Pfizer before September 30. If you do not you "will be excluded from the workplace".
I'm interested in opinions as I know it's not mandatory in the Uk.

If this wasn't your aim it wouldn't take a second to add to your post -

"even though a previous infection is sufficient for CP immune status, I know this policy isn't generalisable to coronavirus."

boobot1 · 30/08/2021 16:55

@ZednotZee

I rhinknits despicable but I know I am in the minority on MN.

Fact remains that patients who have been double vaccinated are more a risk to unvaccinated hospital staff than the reverse.

Mandatory vaccination is pure political grandstanding and is the thin end of an ideological wedge which ultimately will not end well for any of us.

I totally agree, some people are very shortsighted.
Bulldoglady89 · 30/08/2021 16:59

@dementedpixie

It's going to be mandatory (in the UK) from November for those working in care homes to be vaccinated
I think that this is for England and not whole of U.K.

Well, in the USA, a judge in Illinois just removed a mothers parenting time with her child, and mandated she be vaccinated against her doctors recommendation in order to have parenting time with her child restored. The judge did this at a hearing that had nothing to do with parenting time, or vaccination status. Neither party raised the issue. The judge did it of his own accord.

bumbleymummy · 30/08/2021 17:46

@ollyollyoxenfree Nope.

Parker: It’s no different than my nephews schools and nurseries in the US requiring the chicken pox vaccination before they could attend.

Me: But you don’t need to get the chickenpox vaccine if you have evidence of immunity - Link to CDC’s policy on not needing the chickenpox vaccine if you have proof of infection.

Olly - why are you comparing to chickenpox bumbley? You can’t make direct comparisons. Hmm

It was literally a direct response to Parker’s post. She is the one who made the comparison between the US requiring the CP vaccine and employers making the coronavirus vaccine mandatory.

What on earth is parenting time? And what was the hearing if not about parenting? Is this person in jail or on remand or something? Sounds very strange
bumbleymummy · 30/08/2021 17:50

So @ollyollyoxenfree you are the one being disingenuous.

bumbleymummy · 30/08/2021 17:59

@Lelivre It was this one actually -

Sorry, I thought I’d linked to it earlier for you.
Yes, it’s a small study (and a preprint) but it did include delta. Studies showing immunity lasts for 9+ months can be found in this document -

Parenting time is what they call time each parent get with the child in a divorce situation. The hearing was for an evaluation of child support and expenses.

The divorced couple shares joint custody, and the hearing was for child support. Neither party brought the issue of visitation/parenting time before the judge. The judge unilaterally made the decision to revoke the mothers time with her child without a hearing or notice.

samyeagar · 30/08/2021 18:44

The judge made the decision based solely on her vaccination status, without regard to the mothers specific circumstance, which was unrelated to the matter before the court.

I would be surprised if there isn't more to this story than she was stripped of custody because she wasn't vaccinated despite having medical advice not to.

Watching with interest..

Lelivre · 30/08/2021 18:49

wow. I hope it’s is challenged!

When I first saw the story, I thought there had to be more to it than that, but nope. The court recodes showed it really was that simple.

The issue before the judge was child support. The judge asked the mother about her vaccination status. She questioned the judge as to the relevancy of her vaccine status with regards to the issue before the court, which was child support. The judge said my court, my rules. She said that she was unvaccinated due to past advers reactions and under direction from her doctor. The judge then revoked her time with the child until she gets vaccinated.

It really is that straight forward.

When click-bait becomes reality.

samyeagar · 30/08/2021 19:49

So it appears that just this morning, the judge vacated this portion of his earlier ruling. So good I guess even though he is only trying to save his own ass from getting disbarred. The problem is though, that this judge has opened the flood gates for weaponizing vaccine status within the courts...

chicago.suntimes.com/news/2021/8/30/22648796/judge-reverses-order-barring-unvaccinated-mother-from-son-divorce-coronavirus-vaccine

From the article:

"Jeffrey Leving, attorney for Firlit’s ex-husband Matthew Duiven, called the judge’s decision [to vacate] “unfortunate.”

“I am working on an emergency motion right now to fight it,” Leving said Monday.

“I know that they are going to say that I’m an endangerment to my son,” Firlit said. “This isn’t over for me.”
