Would you visit Scotland this weekend?

Maybe I’m worrying for no reason but with the steep rise in cases and all the talk of potential reintroduction of restrictions (even a circuit breaker mentioned), would you visit this weekend? I’m due back to work next week which in my main worry really. Am I overthinking?

@FAQs

I read *@NannyAndJohn* post as being sarcastic not serious.
She was being deadly serious.
rookiemere · 26/08/2021 15:18

@SuperLoudPoppingAction but it's weird how having these mitigation measures- keeping masks socially and in school- is not resulting in reduced cases.

CaptainPicardsToupee · 26/08/2021 15:19

Yes, you obviously haven't read any of their doom-mongering posts!

Jourdain11 · 26/08/2021 15:19

One might almost start to question if the masks are not too effective!

ScatteredMama82 · 26/08/2021 15:21

@NannyAndJohn

No.

Their cases are at a record high and rising rapidly (6 day doubling time). It's carnage up there.

Carnage indeed. Give your head a wobble.
BuddlesOfMine · 26/08/2021 15:23

Thanks everyone! We’re coming up tonight to Edinburgh for a few nights. We did struggle to book restaurants we wanted but have managed to find some we think look great. Really looking forward to it! I’ll be certain to come back and report any carnage I spot!

Reduced as compared to what exactly?

rookiemere · 26/08/2021 15:33

@XDownwiththissortofthingX I meant proportionately less than England which has removed most mitigations.

vera99 · 26/08/2021 15:36

If you want a flavour of NannyAndJohn's greatest hits fill yer boots.

@HostageToNationalism

Yes do visit. It's fine here. Just a government which thrives on the narcissism of minor differences.
Nonsense. There is a steep rise and up until now, its probably due to holiday makers. Ive read that Cornwall has the highest case rates. As long as you are sensible. Keep away from crowds, which wont actually be that hard if you are coming here as all families are not holidaying and back at school.

So presumably, at the points where Scots rates have been below those of England, you would conclude that is entirely down to mask compliance and social distancing in Scotland?

There is no comparator because they only realistic one would be a Scotland without social distancing and with zero mask wearing. We don't have that, so it's impossible to draw any valid comparisons at all.

The simple fact is, masks and distancing may reduce infection as opposed to no mask and no distancing, there's no way to prove it definitively either way, and comparisons between totally different situations are meaningless.

Carnage ?? Talk about hyperbole!

Carnage
😂😂😂

ShowOfHands · 26/08/2021 16:00

I went to Scotland in May half term and it was terrible then. I dread to think what it is like now. On our final day, a slobbering, slathering hound reared out of a local wood and caused utter carnage. His frantic owner was lobbing tennis balls and he was savagely chasing them and dropping them, grenade-like at her feet. I think his name was Max. Apparently he was a cockapoo but I think that's Gaelic for Hellhound. I saw a man EATING SOME TABLET ON A BENCH. Middle of the day it was. The brazen fucker was smiling at people.

The children were shaking and crying.

We won't go back.

Maskedrevenger · 26/08/2021 16:06

No carnage here in the North East of Scotland, normal boisterous kids just finished school. Gorgeous sunshine and no midgies on the East Coast. Come and visit, if it’s good enough for the Queen it’s fine for everyone else, just bring masks

Nsmum14 · 26/08/2021 16:08

Also extremely amused at the Carnage comment 🤣🤣

GintyMcGinty · 26/08/2021 16:09

There are no extra restrictions in Scotland - apart from face masks. Yes cases are rising but they are still lower than most of the rest of UK.

Midgies, on the other hand, feckin everywhere.

Mrsjayy · 26/08/2021 16:13

Cockapoo Gaelic for hellhound😂

Jesus it's not carnage
NeverMetANiceOne · 26/08/2021 16:27

I live on the west coast, which I believe is where 'the carnage' is. I've just been for a lovely walk and a very tasty lunch, all socially distanced and really pretty jolly.
The carnageometer was reading pretty low...

Narwhalsh · 26/08/2021 16:29

Looking for carnage... can’t see carnage... Hmm

SwimmingUnderwater · 26/08/2021 16:31

But social distancing has been dropped in Scotland?

99victoria · 26/08/2021 16:38

We've just returned from 10 days in Scotland - no carnage of any kind was experienced - covid, midges or other. We even spent a whole day in Glasgow and seem to have survived.

It was just like any other holiday as far as we were concerned!
