Maybe I’m worrying for no reason but with the steep rise in cases and all the talk of potential reintroduction of restrictions (even a circuit breaker mentioned), would you visit this weekend? I’m due back to work next week which in my main worry really. Am I overthinking?

@NannyAndJohn when are you going to check your facts and stop trying to derail every Covid related thread with your hysterical posts without any facts it’s tiresome now .

mrsjay
I forgot to add the biggest indicator that is was dead compared to normal was that we only decided to go up the night before for the weekend and had a choice of loads of hotels that were reasonably priced. I've never been able to get a decent hotel on a last minute decision in Edinburgh for under £150 , nevermind £60 which I paid for two of us in August

newnortherner111 · 26/08/2021 13:26

I wouldn't in any year myself. Judging by the comments on the thread, you can go and probably easily socially distance, you won't be alone with indoor face coverings either.

Mrsjayy · 26/08/2021 13:31

Well yes the festival isn't running as usual but I don't think it was advertised as a full festival .

Thats right, It wasnt. However there were a few shows on which were enjoyable. I didnt want to break my Edinburgh in August tradition! We even managed to have a mid week break last summer when we had a little respite from the restrictions.
As far as I'm aware there was only one show that ran after midnight on the free fringe. PBH said that restrictions were lifted in the 9th August They already planned to put a free comedy show after midnight on but if the restrictions weren't lifted in time they were going to juggle time slots around so the shows finished within the time frame.
Glad I went up. I'm in Glasgow this weekend.
Hopefully there will be no carnage of any sort!!🤣

Justarandompersonontheinternet · 26/08/2021 13:49

In Edinburgh (city centre). The only carnage I’ve noticed was at school pick up yesterday on the first day back 😂

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 26/08/2021 13:51

Off out in a bit to sample the Kabul Airport-like mayhem of Leith (stop sniggering at the back)

I shall report on how many thousands I witness drop dead in the street while shouting "this is all wee jimmy krankie's fault!" later.

NoWordForFluffy · 26/08/2021 13:56

I'm currently sitting in the sunshine outside Kelvingrove Museum and there's a distinct lack of carnage. Some crap skateboarding, but no carnage!

beachcitygirl · 26/08/2021 13:57

@NannyAndJohn

No.

Their cases are at a record high and rising rapidly (6 day doubling time). It's carnage up there.

What absolute alarmist rubbish. Cases are lower than rUK We are all also complying with masks in shops & public buildings & transport etc We're now vaccinating 16 year olds.

The sun is shining & scotland feels very safe. I work out of London & feel much much safer in Scotland.

You'll have a ball

weebarra · 26/08/2021 13:58

Doesn't seem to be much carnage here in Midlothian. Sun is shining, kids in school. Going into Edinburgh tomorrow for a book fest thing, managed to book restaurant of choice no problem.

caughtinanet · 26/08/2021 13:59

If it's the same kind of carnage that you were sure was going to result from the Euros we might just be able to manage. I know life as we know it stopped the moment Italy won but this new post carnage world is pretty bearable, no?
Melliferous · 26/08/2021 14:00

I was in M&S earlier and a collection of yellow stickered cakes appeared that that looked as though they'd cause some sharp elbowed carnage among the bargain spotters.

KohlaParasanda · 26/08/2021 14:11

@ImperfectTents

I would worry more about the midgies
I've been in Scotland for over a week and can confirm that there's no visible carnage here but the midgies are ferocious.
derenstar · 26/08/2021 14:11

We are currently sat having lunch in St James Square having been in Scotland for this past past week. It’s been glorious- we’ve done pretty much everything- walking up the Royal Mile and taking in street entertainment, museums, galleries, the Royal Yacht, a few walking tours including of the vaults. We also did couple of days in Skye and a night in Inverness. Yes it’s busy but definitely no sign of any carnage! Scotland is truly beautiful, we’ve had such an amazing time.

OP, just go and enjoy yourself. Life is for living, none of us are guaranteed tomorrow.

derenstar · 26/08/2021 14:13

Oh gosh yes- the midges were brutal especially in Skye- and that was with some deet on!

emmathedilemma · 26/08/2021 14:14

Carnage, that's hilarious!
I think it really depends what you're planning to do (and for me this would apply to anywhere in the UK):
Would I go to Glasgow and go to pubs and clubs every night....probably not (but then I wouldn't do that anywhere in the UK at the moment).
Would I go to Edinburgh and go sightseeing, eat out in restaurants.....yes but I'd aim to do as much outside as possible (also because I hate wearing a mask for anything length of time).
Would I go to the highlands in a self catering property and do outdoor activities every day......absolutely.

Usual2usual · 26/08/2021 14:30

Fuck me is it? I've not noticed everything seems normal to me.

Still hardly know anyone who has had covid (and no one who has had any actual symptoms).

hanahsaunt · 26/08/2021 14:31

I going this weekend and can't wait!

StressedPest · 26/08/2021 14:33

I wouldn't, my friend works for 119 and has said the bulk of the calls are coming in from Scotland this week.

FAQs · 26/08/2021 14:35

I read @NannyAndJohn post as being sarcastic not serious.

Neverrains · 26/08/2021 14:36

@FAQs

I read *@NannyAndJohn* post as being sarcastic not serious.
Sadly if you were familiar with *@NannyAndJohn*’s previous posts you’d realise that’s not the case.
FelicityPike · 26/08/2021 14:40

Definitely no carnage in my gloriously sunny part of Ayrshire! Although school gets out in 20 minutes….

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 26/08/2021 14:40

I think lots of cases spread through contacts eg friendship groups, school years etc.
It shouldn't massively impact on a holiday.

I went to a concert in London and there was no mask wearing (just us really) and everyone was sitting closely.

Back in Scotland, the seating is socially distanced (2m), the venue is outdoors and most folk wear masks so it feels a lot safer.

(To me, anyway).

I do think people in shops are a little more lax about 2m distance but it was the same in England.

FAQs · 26/08/2021 14:57

@Neverrains oh! Bonkers then.

Jourdain11 · 26/08/2021 15:16
@NannyAndJohn What exactly do you mean by “carnage”?
Tis like the Highland Clearances all over again.
