Would you visit Scotland this weekend?

Maybe I’m worrying for no reason but with the steep rise in cases and all the talk of potential reintroduction of restrictions (even a circuit breaker mentioned), would you visit this weekend? I’m due back to work next week which in my main worry really. Am I overthinking?

Catching the train tomorrow morning to scotland for the weekend - can't wait!

Lucienandjean · 26/08/2021 16:43

Come to Scotland - you'll be very welcome. I haven't noticed any carnage on the streets, that's for sure. Grin

Just remember that we're still wearing masks on transport and in shops etc. Otherwise I don't think you'll notice any difference to England, as far as covid is concerned.

Most of the new cases seem to be in schools, so if you're visiting as a tourist, that's unlikely to be a danger to you.

containsnuts · 26/08/2021 17:02

Yes, cases are high here but masks are still law and many businesses have retained some social distancing measures so the risk is managed. Scottish Government might tighten up on the guidelines but I very much doubt you'll be caught in a lockdown this weekend. Lovely weather. I hope you enjoy your visit.

TidyOmlette · 26/08/2021 17:05

It’s not carnage but I do think a rise in cases is helped by tourists. A local holiday ‘hotspot’ to me is filled with English people enjoying the area and the local cases have risen rapidly.

Wear your mask and wash your hands

MinesAMassiveSalad · 26/08/2021 17:19

More accurate maybe to say people coming from higher prevalence areas to lower prevalence areas would drive cases. Those high prevalence areas may be in Scotland..

BroccoliFloret · 26/08/2021 17:31

@NannyAndJohn

No.

Their cases are at a record high and rising rapidly (6 day doubling time). It's carnage up there.

Wow, I didn't get the memo. I mustn't have noticed the "carnage" going about my business in Glasgow as normal today.

Carnage my arse.

Yes there are lots of cases in schools of unvaccinated kids, most of whom are at home and feeling a bit peaky for a few days. I'd hardly describe that as "carnage".

secretllama · 26/08/2021 17:34

Carnage 🤣🤣

Bordois · 26/08/2021 17:55

Nanny still making a total clown of themselves i see...

Jourdain11 · 26/08/2021 18:50

I think the proper definition of carnage is "a large number of violently killed or maimed bodies".

Has anyone noticed a large number of violently killed or maimed bodied lying about on Princes Street?

A terrorist attack causes carnage. It isn't really an approach description for a large number of people testing positive for an illness that they probably wouldn't notice having had they weren't testing.

Cannot find a way to say this which is not preachy. There are places in the world where there really is "carnage" at the moment. This is not one of them. It's good to keep some perspective.

GreenWheat · 26/08/2021 18:50

Remember folks, Nanny hasn't left her house for about 18 months (because she is so "socially responsible"). Through that lens, "carnage" is probably anything involving more than two people doing anything economically necessary, famililally desirable, or dare I say it, fun 😂

doorornottodoor · 26/08/2021 19:06

Not carnage, that’s bonkers @NannyAndJohn.

But please English visitors wear your mask. We were on the west coast earlier this month, live in Edinburgh and without exception every non mask wearer I saw on our remote island and the ferry was English. Angry

Helensburghmiddleagedmum · 26/08/2021 19:08

No carnage but there is a lot of covid around, take the usual precautions

SingingSands · 26/08/2021 19:12

I was going to visit my parents in Fife this weekend, but if it's going to be "carnage"...

Hmm
Pootle40 · 26/08/2021 19:25

To be fair I'm in Scotland and no longer wear a mask (sorry useless piece of cotton)

Tataru · 26/08/2021 19:26

I went to the Co-op for a macaroni pie today and had to step over several corpses just to get to the self service checkout. Luckily it wasn't absolute carnage as the Costa machine was still working.

makinganavalon · 26/08/2021 19:26

Unfortunately I live in a tourist hot spot in the Highlands. I have known of nobody round here getting the virus (except a few last October) during this whole thing but it's everywhere now, so may not be carnage up here but it certainly feels tense, and I know a lot of people are very stressed with the huge amount of people up here visiting.
I feel like if you are going make a decision about visiting, think of yourself but also of the people who live where you're going who are counting on people to be as respectful as possible- and are feeling overwhelmed with this sudden surge.

Genuinely double jabbed people are stressed about this....why?
doorornottodoor · 26/08/2021 19:30

@Pootle40 probably because they’ve been isolated from it all so far. It makes people more fearful. I work in a school in a city so am more relaxed as it’s been rife here on and off. My family up north (isolated) are very fearful of it. Oh and even double jabbed, it can still be nasty.

BroccoliFloret · 26/08/2021 19:32

This double jabbed person is not stressed in the slightest.

makinganavalon · 26/08/2021 19:34

@Pootle40
Because a)some people aren't double jabbed, I'm not a spring chicken and I only was invited for my second jab last week- some are still waiting and b) because people are still catching it and feeling poorly with it even if they are double jabbed and c)because things are already closing again because of the high numbers- baby groups cancelling, lots of isolating and missing work, school etc.
I'm not saying it's right to feel overwhelmed, I'm just saying many people do and are finding the lack of respect for the rules up here (no masks, campervans parked any old way, pooing outside when wild camping, traffic, speeding) even more frustrating than usual due to Corona etc.

jerometheturnipking · 26/08/2021 19:35

The only carnage I've seen is the horrible sick bug that's doing the rounds at my school. My class are dropping like flies.

Amortentia · 26/08/2021 19:44

Well, I was in Glasgow city centre on Monday morning when all the traffic lights tripped, and that was carnage. Apart from that, it's fine, too bloody hot, though.

Pootle40 · 26/08/2021 20:07

Double jabbing is very inconsistent. I'm 45 and was invited 7/8 weeks ago with no underlying medical conditions

Mrsjayy · 26/08/2021 20:15

I don't understand what you mean ?
