Would you visit Scotland this weekend?

Maybe I’m worrying for no reason but with the steep rise in cases and all the talk of potential reintroduction of restrictions (even a circuit breaker mentioned), would you visit this weekend? I’m due back to work next week which in my main worry really. Am I overthinking?

My DD is there now and back at work next week. She never gave a thought to COVID. Double jabbed and had the bug.

Starjammer · 26/08/2021 11:24

There doesn't seem to be any provenance for the circuit breaker thing. Just a 'government source' saying there are two options: reintroduce some restrictions and circuit breaker. Nicola Sturgeon herself had said it's likely to be limited and 'proportionate' reintroduction of some restrictions and that she doesn't want another lockdown, so it seems like it might just roll back some of most the changes, probably around venues and physical distancing). I wouldn't be overly worried unless you are coming for some massive event and that's the only reason you're coming.

Scottishskifun · 26/08/2021 11:24

@NannyAndJohn

No.

Their cases are at a record high and rising rapidly (6 day doubling time). It's carnage up there.

😂 You clearly have no idea how big Scotland is! My area counts as high per 100,000..... There are 18 cases in a town of 12,000......hardly carnage as you call it! Just the way the data goes with splitting into areas!
CaptainCorelli · 26/08/2021 11:26

We are here and having an amazing time. Mostly spending time outdoors but did venture into Inverness and lots of shops yesterday. Feels safer here with everyone wearing masks and social distancing.

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 26/08/2021 11:28

Carnage 🤣🤣

It didn't feel like carnage when I dropped my kids at school earlier, I have an appointment at the opticians later too, I hope I avoid all the carnage while I'm getting my eyes tested.

NoWordForFluffy · 26/08/2021 11:29

We're in Scotland on holiday at the moment. Can't say I've spotted any carnage around me (maybe I'm leaving a trail of carnage in my wake?!).

The only health issue I'm aware of is my poor sunburnt thighs, as it's been taps aff weather this week!

randomsabreuse · 26/08/2021 11:31

Kids are back at school - have been for 2 weeks in some areas. Hence rise in cases (and testing because kids seem to run fevers on first encounter with school bugs in a while).

Weather is set fair (high pressure).

Masks are still required indoors, more so than England.

Not sure about the midge situation if you're doing hill stuff (but always an issue, so not Covid specific).

There are more seagulls around and they're very noisy in the mornings ...

No reason not to come!

I'm meant to be travelling up for a large gig in Glasgow on 9 Sept...I'm slightly concerned it may not be allowed, despite only recently getting the go ahead!
ChaToilLeam · 26/08/2021 11:32

No carnage here in the Highlands. Numbers are rising though. If you come, wear your mask as required and be sensible.

Neverrains · 26/08/2021 11:32

@NannyAndJohn you get more and more hilarious by the day Grin.
Intentionally, I presume? Honestly if you’re a parody account then you’re really clever, well done.

CaptainPicardsToupee · 26/08/2021 11:33

We have theatre tickets that just got confirmed yesterday. Not till October though so hard to know what things will be like! Really hope we will still be able to go – we are all looking forward to it.

HostageToNationalism · 26/08/2021 11:37

Our school has cancelled an October break residential.
Because they don't know if the SG will allow it to not so they don't want to risk it.

Pinkbonbon · 26/08/2021 11:38

Scotland where? You do know theres a lot of variation in rates of covid all over Scotland right? And between various cities even. It's a big place.

If I'd had both my jags, I wouldn't even be thinking about it anymore. Unless I was hoping to go up going up for a dirty weekend with a handsome highlander or two.

Pinkbonbon · 26/08/2021 11:39

*thinking about covid anymore I mean

Shallwegoforawalk · 26/08/2021 11:54

@NannyAndJohn NO it's not! I'm sitting in a lovely cafe in Edinburgh and it's perfectly fine. We still wear masks and keep a distance. Life is going on fairly close to normal. I'm sick of your hysterical shite and over use of "carnage". Get a grip or go away.

Nicknacky · 26/08/2021 12:23

@NannyAndJohn What exactly do you mean by “carnage”?

notacooldad · 26/08/2021 12:25

I went to Edinburgh last weekend and it was dead!
We are back in Scotland tomorrow evening until Tuesday.

Mrsjayy · 26/08/2021 12:40

Was it ? My parents were in Edinburgh last Saturday said it was quite busy 🙂

shouldistop · 26/08/2021 12:41

Carnage GrinGrinGrin

SwimmingUnderwater · 26/08/2021 12:46

It’s not carnage , no. I live here. Don’t t be so stupid.

Yep I've noticed he/she drops a hysteria bomb on every CV thread and then doesn't come back/reply to posters questioning their ridiculousness. HmmHmmHmm

rookiemere · 26/08/2021 12:55

I don't know where talk of a circuit breaker has come from, there was talk of reintroducing some restrictions but I really hope SG know they're on a shoogly peg if they reintroduce tiers.

But this weekend- you'll be grand. Most hotels and restaurants are still employing some form of distancing and masks still required inside although you could question their efficacy with numbers so high.

Bonnylassie · 26/08/2021 12:55

Carnage 🙄😂. It really isn't. I live here, my kids are in school, I have family visiting, the weather is lovely. I was in London a few weeks ago and it definitely feels 'safer' up here as we are still wearing masks.

BoomChicka · 26/08/2021 13:01

Fucking hell @NannyAndJohn. Turn the news on and look at Kabul if you want to see what carnage is, you are an utterly ridiculous troll.

notacooldad · 26/08/2021 13:17

@Mrsjayy
It was seriously dead compared to the last 23 years I've been going to the fringe.

I tried to send you a picture if the Royal Mile taken on Sturday afternoon and another one around Cannongate as a direct message but cant do it.
We didnt get leafleted once.
We walked into bars and restaurants and got a table straight away.
There was loads of spaces on the train coming home.
Hardly any fringe acts on.
We noticed that pibs and fast food places were closed at 11.40pm as we walked back to our hotel.
There was no ( or hardly any that I noticed) Chinese Japanese tourists, no crowds of Americans, no Australian' or New Zealand as usual.
We walked around in the middle of roads and pavements with no one near us.
It was a really unusual experience and I missed the vibrancy of it all.
