I went and had a vaccine this morning

I didn’t want one, but I need to go back to work after 2 years, after a house move and a baby , hundreds of job applications for anything and everything and not even one interview.

I’m a dementia care specialist, I could walk into a job in care tomorrow. So I just had to have it.

I’m 41, had AZ.

And i’m getting very drunk tonight, I don’t care if it’s a bad idea.

You need to drink a lot of water after the vaccine to avoid a headache. Maybe even more if you're getting drunk too. So plan to include water!

DelurkingAJ · 07/08/2021 11:32

Also 41 and had AZ in March and May. Slightly sore arm on the day then nothing else in the way of side effects. DH (39) had a bit of a temperature the evening of his first jab (AZ) and nothing else. Side effects of any great magnitude, whilst awful if they do happen, are rare.

Plumtree391 · 07/08/2021 11:34

Good for you! You've done the right thing. Better late than never.

I was later than most of my age in having my vaccination but that was because of circumstances, not because I didn't want to have it.

I didn't know you weren't supposed to drink afterwards, wouldn't apply to me because I rarely drink anyway but that was news to me. Don't get too drunk! You will be likely to have a thick head and digestive disturbances tomorrow if you do.

Icequeen01 · 07/08/2021 11:35

I had my first AZ in February aged 59. I didn't feel great for a couple of days after but as I had tested positive for Covid 34 days before that I can tell you hand on heart the side effects from the vaccine were nothing on having Covid so you have done the right thing!

@TheFrogsAreDying

What you’re complaining that you’re lucky enough to have been able to get it? You realise people are dying all over the world because there’s no vaccine available for them , but maybe they’re not on your radar as they are poor and probably not white. What a silly privileged thing to complain about.

I’ve been on a total health kick and and doing 3 ltrs a day. I haven’t had an alcoholic drink in 18 weeks either (yes, I’m counting!) ….. dh said “are you totally sure you want one? You’ll be on the floor” It will probably be on glass and then bed!

I know but there were threads months ago saying don’t drink after.

Threads? Not scientific advice?

No, but it’s mumsnet so if I said I wanted a drink, I would have probably got jumped on by people saying it wasn’t a great idea.

Why didn't you want it? At 41 you could - and should - have had your first jab months ago.

RoseRedRoseBlue · 07/08/2021 11:37

@NoNotYou

Really, you just need to chill The Fuck out. You are making yourself anxious and almost willing yourself to get side effects. It's a vaccine! 100s of 1000s of folk have had it!
I know, the drama!
budgun · 07/08/2021 11:38

But you did say you were going to have a drink Confused

I didn't see those and honestly didn't know. Maybe the op gets drunk on two glasses :-) (I do, even half a glass), which probably won't hurt.

@whatswithtodaytoday

Because it was my choice not to have it.

I’ve had covid, I’ve had an antibody test showing antibodies.

I don’t go out anywhere, I really don’t see anyone.

Again, it was my choice. Plus I have a friend and a close family member who have lasting effects from vaccines.

But if I want to go back to my job, I don’t have a choice.

Don’t blame your hangover symptoms on the vaccine

MRex · 07/08/2021 11:42

Great that you're already high on water, it's amazing the benefits of having lots. I'm sure you'll feel great, enjoy your one glass of booze before the big sleep.

whatswithtodaytoday · 07/08/2021 11:42

Ok, well that's it isn't it. If you want to go back to your job - which requires you to be vaccinated, like many jobs do - you need the vaccine. If you don't want it - which is your own choice, of course - you can't go back to your job. Up to you!

An excellent side effect of that is that you're now much better protected against a very dangerous virus, so yay!

PurpleDaisies · 07/08/2021 11:43

Are you looking for distraction from feeling worried? It feels a bit like you’re looking for a fight.

Looking at pictures of cute animals is a nicer way forward.

foxandbee · 07/08/2021 11:44

Don't get drunk! You may feel rotten later on today and tomorrow, a hangover won't help.

No, not looking for a fight.

It’s just hard when you don’t have a friend to call up and talk to.

That’s when i turn to here.

Maybe I’ve misread the tone.
You just seem…angry:

Arsebucket · 07/08/2021 11:47

i mean i know people, just not any of the sort of friends I could just call for a chat of of the blue.

Great you’ve got the vaccine out of the way though. Good luck for the job hunting in September. Flowers

megletthesecond · 07/08/2021 11:50

No side effects after either, I'm 47.
But I certainly didn't get drunk. I ate well, went for a walk, took a paracetamol and bribed my kids to let me sleep.
