I didn’t want one, but I need to go back to work after 2 years, after a house move and a baby , hundreds of job applications for anything and everything and not even one interview.

I’m a dementia care specialist, I could walk into a job in care tomorrow. So I just had to have it.

I’m 41, had AZ.

And i’m getting very drunk tonight, I don’t care if it’s a bad idea.

No effects from either AZ jab for me either. Just because you may get something doesn't mean you will get any effects

SpringRainbow · 07/08/2021 12:18

I really fancy a lasagna now!

Enjoy it Flowers

Terhou · 07/08/2021 12:21

I feel a bit odd (but i’ve been on tears for about an hour so there’s that).

Why? You might have good cause for tears if you infected your relatives or people you are looking after.

MareofBeasttown · 07/08/2021 12:27

I echo trying not to overthink. A huge no of people in my family have taken the vax. Side effects for me and most others were fever and chills in the first 24 hrs, and a sore arm for a few days. Nothing at all for the second jab.

Lemsip helped me. As did comforting food, and lots of soup. If you have small children, DS might have to take over for a bit.

gogohm · 07/08/2021 12:29

About 10 hours in I got fluey symptoms, lasted about another 10 hours then just a sore arm for a few days.

Mufflette · 07/08/2021 12:30

Well done OP Flowers, overcoming your own misgivings so you can work to look after your family and help protect the people you'll be caring for is really something you should be proud of.

I echo the comments about maybe holding off on the wine for a few days but the lasagne sounds like an excellent plan, maybe throw in a pudding...

CorianderBee · 07/08/2021 12:31

I had AZ in April. I got shivery and felt a bit unwell after about 10 hours. Felt run down and feverish for two hours and went to bed with some night nurse. Woke up feeling tired and worn out but not Ill. slept again and woke up right as rain!

It's really not that bad. Even friends I knew who felt horrendous it only lasted two days. Then it's done!

You'll be fine.

CrunchyCarrot · 07/08/2021 12:34

That must have been a big decision for you, OP, it's a shame you feel you had to have it to continue working in your chosen field.

foxandbee · 07/08/2021 12:39

@Tana433

This has made me furious on your behalf. You didnt want the vaccine yet you had to get one in order to get a job. Thats so fucking wrong and i dont know why more people are not protesting about this. Im so lucky that i dont need to work and like you i dont see many people. I have my shopping delivered so i have no real need to leave the house if i dont want to but i was supposed to attend concerts at the end of the year that probably wont happen for me now. Its ridiculous and im beyond sick of this country.
It is not just this country, many others doing the same. Maybe that is because it is a sensible policy?
CommanderBurnham · 07/08/2021 12:44

@foxandbee so do I.

Well done on getting the vaccine. Hopefully it will be a non event and you'll be back to work soon.

For some people it's a massive deal, others a walk in the park. We all have our things that we don't want to do. Enjoy that drink.

DoubleTweenQueen · 07/08/2021 12:50

@Arsebucket Best of luck with the job hunt - getting vacc'd and being able to therefore get back into your area of experience was the best thing to do

Notthemessiah · 07/08/2021 12:50

Ignore the sanctimonious 'do as you're told' bunch - they are as bad, if not worse, than the most hatstand anti-vaxxers.

Totally don't blame you for being a bit angry about being pressured\blackmailed into something you weren't sure about, even if I personally believe it's the best thing to do both on an individual and societal level. The fact that so many people are OK with these kind of methods to 'persuade' people to be vaccinated is both scary and appalling.

I had AZ and had next to no symptoms after either jab - felt a bit grot for 24hrs after the first and that was about it. Hopefully it will be the same for you.

JovialNickname · 07/08/2021 12:50

I get you OP, it's horrible to feel like you've been forced (by circumstance) to do something you really didn't want to do, to your own body. It makes you feel like you don't have autonomy. You feel "not right" because you went ahead and did something where your head said yes but your heart said no. That's why you feel like you want a drink, because you took an action that feels "wrong" in terms of your own value system.

(None of the above is about the vaccine per se, it is only about going through with a decision you're not fully comfortable with! )

I'm in a similar position; I don't want to have the vaccine (because I am young and healthy and don't wish to have any unnecessary medical treatment, however minor) however for the line of work I wish to go into, it looks like I'm going to have to.

I hope you feel better soon, for what it's worth I'm sure the regretful angry feeling will fade as time goes on. Good luck with the job hunting.

godmum56 · 07/08/2021 12:58

@TheWoollybacksWife

I'm older than you. I had AZ in March. 1st dose I was shivery overnight, got up and took a couple of paracetamol and I was ok in the morning, not completely 100% but close and definitely able to just get on with my day. 2nd dose in June I was fine.

Enjoy your drinks tonight and good luck with the job hunt.

same here and I had a celebartory drink that night. Getting VERY drunk is never ever a good idea
Abraxan · 07/08/2021 13:00

I had no side effects from the vaccines, bar a bit of a sore arm.

I did have fairly big side effects of Covid which resulted in being rushed to a and e, needing admission and hospital treatment and ongoing issues. We didn't even know it was Covid at the time - just that I was at high risk of having a stroke or heart attack that day. Further investigation showed i had Covid and that it was very much likely all the issues were being caused by covid. I now need to take medication daily for life as a result. The new health issue also makes me more vulnerable to covid.

Needless to say that, despite having antibodies and a previous Covid infection, I couldn't wait to have my vaccines.

Most of our friends had little to no side effects from the vaccine. Range of ages and vaccines.

A small number who had AZ had a rough day the next day - like flu type symptoms. Lasted a day.

Be aware that if you do decide to drink today then any 'symptoms' tomorrow may actually be a hangover, especially if not drank for a while, rather than the vaccine.

ShortBacknSides · 07/08/2021 13:00

Most of us have had vaccines for various things throughout our lives.

I have a small slightly lighter patch of skin on my upper arm from a small pox vaccination. You no longer have to have this vaccine because millions of us had them 50 years ago.

Couchpotato3 · 07/08/2021 13:04

The massive lasagna sounds like an excellent idea. Well done you for doing something you really didn't want to - that's deserving of anything you fancy right now! I'm trying to get started on a health kick and it is bloody hard.
Hope you're OK after your shot. Sorry you have had bad vaccine experiences in your family - no wonder you were apprehensive about it.

Hercisback · 07/08/2021 13:05

Why aren't you going out? That seems odd now.

The vaccine will protect you and the people you care for. So pleased you've had it.

Abraxan · 07/08/2021 13:06

@Tana433

You do know we are by far not the only country making restrictions and limitations, and trying to vaccinate a large percent of the population? We don't have anywhere near as many vaccine related restrictions as some countries are planning.
speckledostrichegg · 07/08/2021 13:08

Wishing you minimal side effects @Arsebucket
Statistically, you are far better off for having the vaccine, and that's ignoring the benefits to other people. But I'm sorry you felt pressured into it.

Going to be another boring one and suggest you stay off the alcohol. Not because it's harmful but just as you're already hyper aware and anxious about side effects, and you'll just wake up tomorrow morning feeling even more so (alcohol doom Grin ). And if you get a banging headache you'll be convinced it's the vaccine!

Treezan82 · 07/08/2021 13:10

I'm sorry but do you realise how bloody lucky you are? How many millions of people happen to have been born in countries that can't afford a supply of vaccines? How many people are terrified, ill and/or dying and would kill for the safety a vaccine brings? Get a grip and grow some gratitude.

Arsebucket · 07/08/2021 13:26

@Hercisback

Why aren't you going out? That seems odd now.

The vaccine will protect you and the people you care for. So pleased you've had it.

It’s not because of covid. We’ve just never had the money to go out to eat, the pub, the cinema etc. We don’t have any close friends. It’s just how life is for some people.

Also, we live in a dump. Not much free stuff to do apart from endless walks.

OP posts:
Plumtree391 · 07/08/2021 13:30

You've had the vaccination now, Arsebucket, so nobody should be criticising you any more. I'm not saying they should have in the first place but it is a controversial subject.

You'll be fine. I also hope your financial and housing situation improves in time - such things usually do but it would be good if you didn't have to wait too long.

Houseofvelour · 07/08/2021 13:31

I'm 30 and overweight. Had first AZ in March and felt like I had full flu the next day and spent the entire day in bed.
2nd AZ in June and had a slightly sore arm.

1forAll74 · 07/08/2021 13:31

Why are you in tears, that seems a bit odd. Usually you have the jab, and feel very fatigued the next day, then get on with things. In my case it was digging in the garden. I am an oldie. and don't like to sit around worrying about the vaccine.
