I didn’t want one, but I need to go back to work after 2 years, after a house move and a baby , hundreds of job applications for anything and everything and not even one interview.

I’m a dementia care specialist, I could walk into a job in care tomorrow. So I just had to have it.

I’m 41, had AZ.

And i’m getting very drunk tonight, I don’t care if it’s a bad idea.

@Arsebucket

I hope it doesn’t last long. The whooping couch vaccine when I was pregnant last year my arm killed for almost two weeks! I remember posting on here asking if it was normal!
Oh yes, pain with whooping cough jab definitely lasts much longer than the covid one (in my experience anyway).

Please, don’t drink at all. True story - there was a man who got ”very drunk” after getting the vaccine and then died. Alcohol weakens the immune system and EQUALS inflammation, so the body can’t bear the inflammatory effect of a vaccine plus the inflammatory effect of booze. And you just said that your last blood tests already showed high inflammatory markers, so at least you can defend yourself by abstaining from booze.

Here’s the best medical advice on it:
Can I drink alcohol after getting the COVID-19 vaccine?
Alcohol suppresses the immune system, so it would be advisable not to drink alcoholic beverages for about 2 weeks after getting vaccinated.

@Terzani I didn’t and i won’t. I’ve done really well not drinking, i’m not going to ruin it.

I had a shitload of carbs for the first time in months instead.

Well better late than never. I don't understand why your healthy eating\drinking has to stop now though just because you've had your vaccine. That seems an odd thing to do.

Anyway, whatever your reasoning - good luck with your job hunt.

Terzani · 08/08/2021 11:20

Oops, sorry, I didn’t notice that your first post was yesterday. Careful with the carbs too, as these are inflammatory too, but you already know it Smile Try taking some enzymes before meal, if you usually expect difficult digestion and foggy mind after eating carbs.

It’s not stopped.

Right back on a vegan diet as of this morning. I just wanted a bit of comfort after doing something I wasn’t comfortable with.

When I say a shit load - it was a large bit of lasagne and a slice of apple pie. One meal.

My stomach has shrunk so much, I can’t eat like I used to. But it was a lot of carbs for me.

Just one day. I’m currently chopping up a massive pile of veg for a soup.

I had to do something to be honest. I’m too old now to keep messing about. My children eat really healthily and so does dh. I was a mess, fuzzy headed all the time.

And I’ve felt better over the past few months than I have in years. All I drink it’s lots of water and two cups of green tea a day. Nothing else and I don’t miss it.

Yesterday’s blow out meal (apart from the expected heartburn), hasn’t seemed to have made that much difference. I’m still clear headed, no fuzzy, front of head headache like I used to have everyday. So I think I got away with it.

My sister in law said, “omg, don’t let it spiral out of control, you’ll be back on the sugar”. It hasn’t. I’ve got a couple of really lovely vegan meals planned for the next few days which I’m looking forward to.

I actually don’t know who I am any more Grin

Sure, and you can tolerate it well if it’s one meal, or two or three but on different days. These carbs seem to hurt only when they accumulate: it’s like when you follow a low FODMAP diet and don’t feel anything if you eat only a bit of an irritating food, but your gut gets angry if you eat a lot of it or every day. And incidentally, staying vegan and avoiding booze for 18 weeks might already have helped you before this vaccine, because you have lowered the level of inflammation in your body.

Arsebucket · 08/08/2021 12:43

I’ve also started sorting out my gums too. I’ve had/am having a horrible few years with an elderly relative and I just stopped looking after myself.

When I showed the dentist my blood results she said my gums could be the problem (it’s embarrassing to admit how bad I let my teeth get). so I am tackling that too. All part of getting myself back on track and as healthy as I can be.

Good point, this is something so overlooked. A friend had inflamed gums and totally ignored it. Eventually he got rosacea, was treated for it and only then managed to pay attention to his gum disease.

Plumtree391 · 08/08/2021 13:47

I sympathise, Arsebucket. I have gum problems and currently have a very loose tooth. Like you I need a visit to the dentist, I have neglected myself for quite a while.

It was another anxiety of mine. The longer I left it, the worse I felt about going.

I just bit the bullet and went a couple of weeks ago. They had a cancellation and could see me that day.

As with getting the vaccine, I’m better if I don’t plan things that make me anxious and just go and do it, I was so lucky with the dentist.

Anyway, I’m working with the hygienist and dentist now and have appointments to see both regularly to sort myself out.

Good luck with getting a job and I am glad you had the vaccine OP.

lljkk · 08/08/2021 16:36

Glad you haven't had any big side effects, OP.

My only side effect was slight sore arm, after 1st shot only, gone by day 5. I've had much worse from other vaccines.

Arsebucket · 09/08/2021 08:11

Went to bed with a really sore arm ….. and woke up this morning with no pain in it at all!

I just wanted to say thanks again for the people who have been so kind. It was a big thing for me. We aren’t all the same.

I just hope that if someone finds this thread who is worried then it will make them feel a little more at ease.

Good to hear!

I'm 42, double-vaccinated with AZ.

After my first one, I had a very mild low-grade fever which went away after a few paracetamol, and felt a bit 'coldy' overnight, maybe a little tired for a few days. Second one, bit of a sore arm. TBH, I've had worse hangovers!

I've told this story on this board before, but I used to have to travel through East / SE Asia a lot for work, and so had to have the yellow fever jag. That made me PROPERLY unwell for about 10 days, so this was a walk in the park in comparison. Wink
