and noticed that very few people are wearing masks. I know you don't have to etc etc but I thought that these shops were 'encouraging' people to wear them.

In M and S out of around 12 staff that I saw, only one was wearing a mask.

I felt like a bit of a weirdo for wearing one Confused -

If you believe masks don't make a difference that's up to you. Either way, I don't really want to breathe other people's manky breath let alone cold, flu etc germs

Are you expecting people to wear masks forever?
Stuffin · 10/08/2021 09:45

@wondersun

My mask is for you, your mask for me.

We wear them because we care for each other or just because it’s law it seems.

I don't want you to protect me. I honestly don't care if you came up to me and breathed on me. I keep my distance from others in queues because I used to anyway as no point standing right behind someone.

So no I am not going to continue to wear a mask for you and yes I only did it because it was law.

It’s very depressing to see how many people have given up with face masks. We face a bleak future as a country, enjoy the summer whilst you can.

Do you ever look on the bright side? Why do you think we face a bleak future in this country?
EmmaGrundyForPM · 10/08/2021 14:07

We've just come out of an art exhibition at the Towner Gallery in Eastbourne. Every single person there was wearing a mask.

I find it liberating rather than depressing. Nor do I think that we face a bleak future in this country. Are you always this full of doom and gloom?

You wear your face mask if you want to. You are free to do that. Everyone else is equally free to do as they wish.

🤣🤣🤣 If masks go I will really miss them for this reason.

I can honestly say I've never thought I'm breathing in someone else's breath for many many years before mask wearing.. That's hilarious

kowari · 10/08/2021 17:00

@spinachandchickpea

How rubbish it must be to be clinically vulnerable and people given all these freedoms can’t even be bothered to wear a mask. Society huh.
My clinically extremely vulnerable relative is fine with masks no longer being required. They are double vaccinated and wear one in public indoor spaces themselves but are happy that others have a choice.
kowari · 10/08/2021 17:03

Mask wearing was much lower in my local Waitrose today, it was nice to see many more faces.

You've never been on a packed rush hour train or bus then, squashed right up against someone and having to smell their stinky breath? Or had to share a small space with someone with garlic breath? If you can smell them and you're near them, you're breathing in their germs too.

Off topic, but I've just seen you on another thread talking about going to Blackpool for a trip - I'm genuinely glad you've decided to abandon your 'we're staying at home' mantra and you're getting out in the sunshine. Also, it quite reassuring - if you're out and about on day trips things really must be looking up!
TheVampiresWife · 10/08/2021 18:04

Cases are still falling rapidly where I am and hardly anyone is wearing a mask - yet more evidence that the vaccines are doing their job. It's wonderful.

Thewiseoneincognito · 11/08/2021 10:20

@TheVampiresWife if you read the post about Blackpool I was asking how busy it was, the first response said it was chaos so we didn’t go, even though we would have been walking along the promenade and perhaps had a ride of the big wheel. I’m not stuck at home fretting about leaving the house but I’m also not visiting crowded venues either.
