Well that's it then. We have to cancel our holidaySad. This year feels like I have been cursed. I've had two eye operations to stop me going blind, and now this.

DH & I have been doubly vaccinated but the DC are too young.

Aaaaaarrrrggghhh Angry

Delete the app, lateral flow the whole family and if negative go and enjoy your holiday. It would be worth taking this as a wake up call about your anxiety though and when you are back make some concrete plans to get on top of it. You've way overreacted and that's not normal.

ExpressDelivery · 05/08/2021 10:03

I've been so compliant, but I'd ignore that if it's just a ping through the app. In less than 2 weeks, as double vaccinated/under 18 you wouldn't need to isolate anyway.

Take some tests with you if it helps ease your conscience.

whatistheworld · 05/08/2021 10:07

please just test daily and if you get a headache and still test negative remain cautious around others. Many are testing negative with a headache on first day of Covid (delta) and then testing positive with more symptoms. My son included.
But i would still go. If it was a friend you spent time, totally different! a random stranger no!

steppemum · 05/08/2021 10:08

@Username7521

I’d do a lateral flow and delete the app. Do lateral flows every 2 days if you’re worried.
I'd do the same.
Luckymummytoone · 05/08/2021 10:10

I think it’s quite rare people actually go on to test positive after being pinged? Take some lateral flows and enjoy yourself x

Abetes · 05/08/2021 10:10

Just go. Lateral flow test every day if you're worried. Enjoy your holiday.

Wilkolampshade · 05/08/2021 10:13

Tbh I'm a massive worrier, but would also do lateral flows, delete app and off you go. Have a happy holiday.

RadandMad · 05/08/2021 10:15

Test and go. Seriously, don't let a dodgy app dictate your life. Just be careful when you're there.

ChavDiningHalls · 05/08/2021 10:22

@ILookAtTheFloor

Is it the app?

If so just delete it and go.

This.
Horseyhorsey3 · 05/08/2021 10:23

@Twizbe

Do a lateral flow and delete the app. Have a lovely holiday

BungleandGeorge · 05/08/2021 10:25

If you’ve been in contact surely it’s daily lateral flow tests, less frequent and you could easily spread covid without realising. And continue wearing surgical masks inside. Those things are not any great inconvenience and may save someone from being very sick (or just slightly sick and having to miss work/ their holiday!) can’t really understand the people who don’t give a damn...

Freshapples · 05/08/2021 10:25

As in this country and travelling by car, I personally would delete the app and go, but test everyone daily and probably modify my behaviour and activities so as not to put other families at risk.
BUT you would have to be ready to return at the first sight of illness - and not stop on the way - and have you considered what you would do if both adults felt too ill to drive back?

LibbyL92 · 05/08/2021 10:27

Hey,

Personally I’d delete and go. Reason I say this is because last year I went to Spain during the quarantine period. I was being called 3 days a day. I was also due to go back to Spain 5 days after I landed. I was unsure if I was allowed to go due to isolating.
However when I was next called ‘government checking up on me’ I asked them if I were allowed to fly. And they said I was allowed to go on holiday.
I then travelled on day 5.

Just keep doing lateral flows until you go x

UDontDans2Tekno · 05/08/2021 10:28

I heard (obvious disclaimer friend of a friend...) that someone went to a cafe at 11, and then got pinged as someone who went a 3pm tested positive

Hearing stories like this does make you wonder!

(I'm fully vaccinated, still wearing masks inside so not a denier/anti vax)

Freshapples · 05/08/2021 10:29

You've way overreacted and that's not normal

Erm, no, you've downloaded the government sponsored app as asked, and are considering following its recommendations.

HmmmmmmInteresting · 05/08/2021 10:30

@clickychicky

Why does anyone download the app if they are just going to ignore it when it does what it was downloaded for?
Exactly this. Its getting tedious now.
HarebrightCedarmoon · 05/08/2021 10:31

Don't you have to have tests anyway? I'd be relying on the PCR tests not what the app says.

SpeakingFranglais · 05/08/2021 10:33

Same thing happened to
Me after a 21st party ten days ago. I deleted the App ordered lateral flow tests from the NHS site which came next day and have done a test every day since and double-masked in shops and on the tube. Every test has been negative,

Apparently being pinged and isolating is guidance not law, being contacted by track and trace is law.

dreamkitchenhelp · 05/08/2021 10:34

I have been careful and stuck to the rules. At this stage I would do a LFT every couple of days for the next week and go on holiday. Keep your distance from people wear your mask.

Life has to go on. But take sensible precautions.

Abraxan · 05/08/2021 10:38

I got rid of the app once 19 July came and we didn't need to check in to places, and had contact tracing turned off for much much longer.

A friend was 'pinged' sitting in a cafe outside, and not close to anyone. That's where his exposure showed anyway. Was no one her knew and was clearly not close enough to be face to face or interacting with. At that moment I decided enough was enough when it came to isolating and cancelling things. Was happy to isolate if I had a proper 'close contact' with someone I knew but not for a stranger I'd just passed by for a bit.

I'd struggle to ignore the app if I physically saw it tell me to isolate but no chance dh would cancel a holiday for that kind of 'contact.'

What kind of holiday are you going on?

Abraxan · 05/08/2021 10:44

Also - does the app indicate when the contact was? You can check on the exposure log. How long ago?

Is it somewhere you know you actually are likely to have had 'proper' close contact? And what kind of cool tact did you have? Inside/outside? Face on?

We'd be tempted to do a pcr and then go if negative.
Round here it is really easy to get a test - usually within an hour or two and results are coming back next day. A couple of weeks ago Dd need to do a test - looked online at 10am, had test at 12 noon and got results back before 9am next day.

And then just be careful and cautious around others.

But it would also depend on my holiday type - car and self catering, easy to be careful. Plane and busy all inclusive hotel is much tricker.

Abraxan · 05/08/2021 10:45

Also bear in mind that in 11 days time you wouldn't need to isolate or test at all if you're both double vax, even if the close contact lived in your house and you were seeing them every day for hours in end.

In this scenario, if it was a positive case contact from a party, test and trace would have to have been informed by whoever tested positive that you were there and given them your contact details. I think in this sort of instance, you’d need to be 100% sure that no one at the party had tested positive.

i believe you still need to test after 16th August daily
AngryWhompingWillow · 05/08/2021 10:54

@TheWindOnTheMoon

I agree with the posters saying just go. The app is shite - and not fit for purpose.
