Well that's it then. We have to cancel our holidaySad. This year feels like I have been cursed. I've had two eye operations to stop me going blind, and now this.

DH & I have been doubly vaccinated but the DC are too young.

Aaaaaarrrrggghhh Angry

@TheWindOnTheMoon

I've had a long talk with DH. He's going to get some LFTs this morning and we will test today and take some with us. Will still go on holiday as it's in this country and we can get home quickly if we need to.

Thanks to everyone for putting everything into perspective. Tbh I hardly go anywhere - haven't been well enough to but had had to keep app on because of regular hospital post op check ups so probably my fault for leaving contact tracing on. Will delete app now. Obvs if we get a positive test then will cancel holiday.

Well done op. Fingers crossed for you, that you all are negative. 💐

Fuck that. We have done the right thing all through the pandemic, done as we were told. But to cancel a holiday like that? Nope. Delete the app.

ExtremelyDisorganised · 05/08/2021 09:06

I turned the bluetooth off on the app weeks ago, but kept it for checking in when that was still required.

For those saying you can't delete the checkins till midnight or your next check in that's not true either, you can do it easily through the app settings. I did it if I checked in somewhere then wasn't there for long or not close to strangers, only kept the check-ins where I felt there was a real risk.

ConcernedAuntie · 05/08/2021 09:06

Ah is this def right? I was wondering this myself as have a weekend away booked without my kids and that's my only issue if I get it over there I might get stranded. My friend told me that I would be able to fly back but just isolate when home. But if I can't fly back then I shouldn't actually go. Fucks sake fuck you COVID!!

Four friends of my 18 year old nephew went to Ibiza for a week in June. Nephew thought they were daft to go. One tested positive two days before they were due to return so could not fly, then another, then another, then another. They decided to all stick together and not leave anyone behind and it was 6 weeks before they got home.

One lost his job because he foolishly phoned in sick in order to go on holiday.

@ZZbuzzes

Just about all the official online information is still listing the original 3 symptoms to look out for and not bothered to update it to reflect how it presents in fully vaccinated people, I’m guessing there are thousands of people wandering around thinking their headache, sneezing and sore throats are colds and not covid.

The app where you get pinged is useless if they’re not even bothering to let people know that if they’re vaccinated covid symptoms are different.

Delete the app, go on your hols and forget it.

I didn't know this!
WovenFish · 05/08/2021 09:08

@TheWindOnTheMoon

Feeling very shaky atm. Anxiety levels are high. I can see both sides of this. Do lateral flows, delete app & go on holiday. Or book test & self isolate. It's the "what if I've got covid or I'm a carrier" that I can't ignore.
I’d feel the same as you. It’s really hard to make decisions about this when you feel anxious and also when you have concern about others at the forefront of your mind. If you were sitting in a cafe for any length of time, it could have been from that. From the 7th you wouldn’t be required to isolate anyway though - I would still feel uneasy about that myself and would avoid seeing vulnerable people and take LFTs. I suppose it’s only a few days to go until the rules change so it really is down to whether you feel comfortable or whether going will increase your anxiety and ruin your holiday anyway. I really feel for you as it isn’t as easy as ‘delete the app and forget about it’ for many people.
LST · 05/08/2021 09:12

I deleted the app. I would not be cancelling a holiday because of it. Different if T&T actually called you.

baroqueandblue · 05/08/2021 09:18

How different are symptoms in the vaccinated, out of interest? I've known for ages that the original symptom list quickly became a bad joke, but I wasn't aware that there was a "vaccinated" form of the illness (as such).

OP, go on your family holiday and enjoy yourselves. The phrase "doctor's orders" springs to mind! Chances are you'll be in the open air a fair bit anyway, so you're hardly a risk to anyone else.

Squiz81 · 05/08/2021 09:20

A good decision @TheWindOnTheMoon hope you have a lovely relaxing holiday, please don’t let worry over this ruin it.

TempsPerdu · 05/08/2021 09:21

Glad you’ve decided to go ahead with the holiday. I’ve never had the app for exactly this reason, and certainly wouldn’t be cancelling a holiday if pinged.

You’re vaccinated. You have no symptoms. You’ve been doing all the right things, and are being responsible by doing LFTs. Just delete the app, move on and have a lovely break. Smile

TalkingOutYerArse · 05/08/2021 09:22

@ARabbitisaBunny

I was pinged - couldn’t work out why as I hadn’t had close contact with anyone. Long story short, discovered it was my next door neighbour who had tested positive and I had been told to isolate because of them. Hadn’t even seen them for weeks, but I always put my phone on a table by the window when I’m at home and their car is parked just outside, so the only logical conclusion is that their Bluetooth connected with mine as they were going out/coming in. I took a PCR and several lateral flow tests and they were all negative. I now switch the app off when I’m at home.
This happened to a friend. The next door neighbour caused a ping for them. Delete and go.
KatherineJaneway · 05/08/2021 09:23

The app is not law, it is guidance. Take LFT's and then go on holiday if negative.

Benjispruce5 · 05/08/2021 09:26

Given that in a week the rules change so that you wouldn’t have to isolate if you are double jabbed, I agree with your DH. I’d do a lateral flow to reassure throughout the holiday.

Imgoingbackto505 · 05/08/2021 09:27

Isn't it something like 96% of people who get pinged by the app don't go on to develop covid?

Disneyblue · 05/08/2021 09:29

Totally get it OP. I'd feel similar. That said I would still go. I think if it's the app you'd be so incredibly unfair on yourselves if you didn't. The app is bloody awful and not worth cancelling anyone's holiday over.

Witchesbelazy · 05/08/2021 09:31

The app is utterly rubbish delete and ignore

Duggeehugs82 · 05/08/2021 09:32

I would have been someone to say we need to follow advice on app however i got pinged while o was already self isolating due to my daughter having close contact with covid case in her nursery so hadn't left house in 5 days so clearly wrong so now i dont trust it at all and have deleted. I have self isolated when waiting for a test a few times when my daughters got high temperatures so not completely ignoring all rules. Just dont trust app so i say go on hoilday and take tests daily if that helps anxiety, i had bad anxiety when got the ping as i know i hadnt been anywhere and was worried about deleting the app

Dreamstate · 05/08/2021 09:41

When they let people still fly in from India when the delta variant was known about to be honest I wouldn't even worry about spreading it about, the government does s fine job of doing that itself on a bigger scale.

AloneInSpace · 05/08/2021 09:43

@musicalfrog

I couldn't cancel a holiday for this.

OP the vulnerable are vaccinated. Just go.

You do know that just having the vaccine doesn't mean it worked? I have had two vaccines and blood tests show it hasn't worked on me. I'm not saying the world should stop for people such as I - but I am saying stop spreading misinformation! Educate yourself
Turquoisesea · 05/08/2021 09:47

I have never had the app, I test twice a week anyway and am double jabbed. I definitely wouldn’t cancel a holiday unless contacted by test and trace. I think you are doing the right thing by still going away especially as you are staying in the uk.

MyShoelaceIsUndone · 05/08/2021 09:51

Ping means you’re advised to isolate
Phone call you have to isolate

Vallmo47 · 05/08/2021 09:51

Have a fantastic holiday OP, do not worry.

inigomontoyahwillcox · 05/08/2021 09:54

I'd been meaning to delete the app but hadn't got round to it and was pinged the day before going on holiday (in the UK) to isolate for 5 days...

Deleted app
Went on holiday
Did daily lateral flows

As PPs have said, you aren't legally obliged to if you're pinged by the app.

SixesAndEights · 05/08/2021 10:00

I went to my doctor a couple of weeks ago for a possible ear infection. It wasn't but he told me that absolutely anything ENT related could be covid because the symptoms are so wide ranging.

SixesAndEights · 05/08/2021 10:02

I've never had it either and am double jabbed too. If I was going on holiday this year I'd stick to the UK, probably try to keep away from others and not spend too much time in indoor public spaces. Pretty much how I live anyway.
