Well that's it then. We have to cancel our holidaySad. This year feels like I have been cursed. I've had two eye operations to stop me going blind, and now this.

DH & I have been doubly vaccinated but the DC are too young.

Aaaaaarrrrggghhh Angry

You can lateral flow daily if you’re worried. The general consensus on pinging now is ignore it. All got so ridiculous and double vaccinated don’t have to isolate at all from the 16th. It’s just all a mess. Enjoy your holiday

Yahtze · 05/08/2021 15:13

This is why we are plague island. The government spent billions on a useless system that was always just an exercise in lining their mates pockets. Everyone has decided fuck it which is what they wanted all along. And here we are with the highest rates in the western world.

Gillgardens · 05/08/2021 15:25

I've already made a decision what to do.DH got some LTF tests today, we've done a test each, they were negative. We will take boxes of tests with us. Thanks to the supportive and understanding posters on here. To those who haven't bothered to read the full thread, do so before you decide to be unpleasant. We are a CV family, DH & DS are asthmatic, and I have regular hospital appointments for my eyes, following Surgery two months ago. If you stil! feel the need to be nasty, choose another thread, not someone who is already struggling with anxiety. I won't post again on here, I know what we're doing

As someone who is CEV there is a part of me that wishes anyone pinged would follow instructions to the letter. But that is me being totally and completely selfish and I do realise that. I cannot ask anyone to stay home or alter their lives because of me, not after the last 18 months we have all had. I can also totally see things from your POV too and am genuinely glad you will be having a well deserved holiday with your children. Hopefully by next year I will feel safe enough to do that also. Enjoy!

France, Spain, Netherlands, USA have higher rates per million population. I stopped looking after that but I suspect there are more.
Jowak1 · 05/08/2021 15:55

I have followed all the rules since the pandemic began. However, when I had the app it told me everyday more or less that I was in contact with someone who tested positive even on days I never left the house! There have been lots of reports how unreliable the app is and so I would take a test and delete the app. If negative go snd enjoy your holiday you sound like you need it x

Bobholll · 05/08/2021 16:09

Happy holidays OP. I hope the locals are FUMING about you personally bringing the plague to their tourist hotspots that 100% rely on tourism. 🤣🤣

Get a grip. I live in a very touristy area & I know full well the area would collapse if tourists didn’t flock on mass in summer. I choose to live here, so I’m not going to sit complaining about it. It’s baffling that locals hate tourists. Move then, go live in a non tourist spot. There’s plenty of them!

GrandDuchessRomanov · 05/08/2021 17:02

I hope you have a fantastic holiday OP and the weather plays ball for you all.

Meanwhile here in Cheshire it's weeing down and we have the heating on! lol.

Spyro1234 · 05/08/2021 19:39

Omg ...just delete the app

AnneShirleysNewDress · 05/08/2021 19:51

Have a great holiday OP. Hope the weather behaves for you!

ZZbuzzes · 05/08/2021 21:38

I’m so pleased you’ve decided to go. To cancel on the basis of of being pinged by such an ineffective app would have been a shame. I hope you have a lovely time. Safe and happy travels.

TheKeatingFive · 05/08/2021 22:21

Delete the thing and enjoy your holiday

TheKeatingFive · 05/08/2021 22:23

This is why people living in Holiday places are NOT so thrilled with the high numbers of holidaymakers invading this year.

I expect they’d be even less thrilled if they couldn’t pay their bills.

SofiaMichelle · 05/08/2021 22:48

@Medievalist

The irony is, that by the time the app gets round to pinging you, you've already probably been in contact with loads of people. When I've been pinged it's usually for around 5 days. Which means I was close to someone 5 days before that who has gone on to test positive. Seems a bit like closing the stable door. But as I said above, it's still interesting/useful to know.

It's not the app 'getting round to pinging you'.

If someone tests positive it's assumed that they may have been infectious for several days prior to the test.

So if you were in contact with someone on 1st Aug and they test positive on 5th Aug you might be pinged on 5th telling you to isolate until 11th.

Yes - am aware of all that!

You do not give a stuff about spreading this pandemic/plague.

Medical resources are low in rural areas.
The hospitals are over full and can barely cope.

So if you do feel ill go home.

Those people are presumably not those that need tourists to pay the bills and keep the economy going in their areas.
SoupDragon · 06/08/2021 08:42

Not any more - they've updated the app this week to reduce it to 2 days to reduce the number of pings.

Obviously the theory is still right though!

SoupDragon · 06/08/2021 08:45

In the OP's case they are "safer" than someone who never had the app. She will be taking regular LFTs, unlike someone who has no idea.

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 06/08/2021 08:50

I was pinged by the app, it said to isolate for 4 days. I did a LFT (which was negative), informed my boss of everything, and she was fine about me going into work despite being told to isolate. I'm also double jabbed.

In fewer words, you'll be fine OP. Do an LFT and calm down. Like PPs have said, the app's recommendation to isolate is just that: a recommendation.

Enjoy your holiday!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 06/08/2021 09:15

When you see that the Climate Tsar has been using 'ministerial exemption' to travel to thirty countries in seven months and never have to self-isolate, you realise this whole system is a total mockery.

Most people living in holiday places aren't reliant on tourists for their income.
TheKeatingFive · 06/08/2021 10:14

Most people living in holiday places aren't reliant on tourists for their income.

They should reflect on whether the nice cafes, restaurants, facilities, little shops that presumably they enjoy, would exist without the tourist trade.

Yes, but I was replying to a PP who mentioned "couldn't pay their bills", i.e. income dependant on tourism.

The enjoyment (or otherwise) of local amenities is a separate issue.

Warhertisuff · 06/08/2021 13:15

@Badbadbunny

Most people living in holiday places aren't reliant on tourists for their income.

Maybe those people should learn the lesson of King Canute, and also not try and make people feel guilty for behaving normally, having a well
earned holiday, and in so doing supporting 100,000s of people earning a living.

I thought the change wasn't actually implemented yet?

But yes, I know it's coming (or has come, perhaps!)
