Sedgemoor 2nd highest rate in England based on the three day lag, and highest if a two day lag used. Torbay also on an upward curve.

BCP and Bristol continue downward.

We talked before about PCR positivity tracking cases quite well; in England still steady at about 8.3%.

lurker101 · 18/08/2021 22:31

Sorry silly question on PCR positivity - we used to hear a lot that WHO said 5% or less positivity was evidence of controlled outbreak/sufficient testing. Would it be fair to say that we have a higher PCR positivity because the use of LFT is encouraging more people that strongly suspect they have Covid (i.E from +Ive lft) to test? Or are we “uncontrolled”? Given the relatively stable numbers it seems unlikely
Or something else?

[quote lonelyplanet]This may is useful on global distribution (map at the bottom) but beyond my scientific understanding!

There hasn't been consistency with the AY nomenclature - some of the sequences of the variant we're talking about has been called AY.4 and AY.X and some of those listed as AY.3 are other variants. We need to wait for the data to be properly curated before we can figure out what's going on.

lonelyplanet · 19/08/2021 08:17

Thank you QueenStromba, Christina Pagel has added a tweet to her thread.
"UPDATE: apparently the classification of sequences into the different AY. sub lineages of Delta is very fluid at the moment and has in fact changed in just in the last few days... so likely that many/most of the classified AY3 sequences in Sanger are not AY3."

We'll just have to wait to see if there is it is one sub lineage beginning to grow or just a number, which may be less of a worry if none become dominant.

QueenStromba · 19/08/2021 11:45

Here's a good thread about the AY issue from someone who knows his shit.

Scotland is 3,367 cases today, with a test positivity of 9%. There have only been 4 days with cases higher than that, ever (by reported date, not specimen date, though 17th seems like it will be in the top handful of specimen dates too).

It seems like a crazy fast jump from flat to near peak.

Oldbutstillgotit · 19/08/2021 14:36

I feel very uneasy about Scottish numbers . As most schools went back this week , I think they could get worse . On the plus side, hospitalisations remain relatively low.
