@senoritarita

No schools testing

People due to go away on hols resisting tests

People fed up and no longer testing

I think so too, it’s also in the news that it may be down to people not testing due to holiday.

SAGE has a purpose, they aren't supposed to comment on political issues and they don't. They advise the government on their area of expertise and recommend a course of action the government should take and it is up to the elected government to make a decision on what to do.

Independent SAGE are a joke, they are clearly so politically focused you can't take anything they say seriously. The pure arrogance of them calling themselves Independent SAGE tells you all you need to know. No-one has appointed them, no-one has asked them, they just feel they need to share their 'wisdom' with the general public.

@TooOldandTired - how do you know what my focus is? Condescending much. We should judge a society by how it treats its most vulnerable and this one is failing.

RuthW · 28/07/2021 17:36

People aren't testing. I know a family of three all with symptoms, but won't take a test.

Catma2021 · 28/07/2021 17:52

People probably can’t be bothered to test and isolate any more. Either because they can’t afford it, want to go on holiday, or simply want to do as they please.

I might be being cynical, if I’m wrong the deaths and hospitalisations will start to come down and we can all be relieved this thing might finally be over. However, at the moment, they are rising.

The increase in admissions is also slowing down, much like cases began to do. Admissions in Scotland are actually down and they have been a couple of weeks ahead of the uk.

Today's figures are quite late to appear

(Sod's law invoked, and they'll probably appear 1 sec after I press 'post')

They've been up since 4pm.

Its only 2 days, but hospitalisations have actually dropped.over the last couple of days. Fingers crossed it conitnues

Bugger - I thought it was the 29th today!!

Where have you seen the drop @Whatever9999 ?

I think you will find you were the first one to make assumptions and throw insults at me so you can shove your 'condescending much' BS where the sun don't shine.

luckylavender · 28/07/2021 19:32

@TooOldandTired -well at least I'm not criticising actual scientists for daring to criticise the government. In unprecedented times we need as many scientists involved as possible because science is our way out. And that includes those who will challenge. They must not be silenced.

But appointed by the Govt....

Sir David King is on indie SAGE, isn't he good enough for you? why wouldn't you want to broaden your information sources to inc someone of his standing?

But of course, if you support the Govt, SAGE is all you need.

It's not about supporting the govt. Of course dissenting voices are welcome but not when they are clearly politically motivated and only ever comment on bad news. Not a word about the decrease in cases other than to make up some BS claims about them being incorrect.

FourTeaFallOut · 28/07/2021 20:20

Yeah, it's good to see those hospital figures.

Although I guess all those tens of thousands of people who aren't testing because of those holiday plans - and thus artificially decreasing the covid figures - are really doubling down on their deception by having the good grace not to go to hospital if they get really sick either?

TooOldandTired · 28/07/2021 20:20

Of course they can criticise the govt but when all commentary is negative no matter what they do then it is fairly obvious it is politically motivated. They never comment on good news re vaccines, cases going down. Always negative and scaremongering people.

luckylavender · 28/07/2021 20:28

@TooOldandTired - I'm staggered you've never heard them say anything good about vaccines. And you call scaremongering what I call realism. A few days of rapidly falling cases (why, how?) & suddenly it's all over. Have we learned nothing? It's almost as though we have a populist government who will say what we want to hear. And no bullshit please that I want to be locked up forever because that is very far from the truth.

TooOldandTired · 28/07/2021 21:41

@luckylavender go on then show me one tweet or quote from 'independent' sage where they have praised the govt for the vaccine program?

I listened to King on the fall on numbers and he didn't dispute them...

He urged caution, as did Johnson.

All scientists are politically motivated to some extent, they vote after all!

A staunch tory scientist (or one paid/selected by the govt) is far more likely to tilt his opinion toward the govt than a staunch Labour one and vv.

thats why its important to look at the body of scientific opinion, rather than accuse dissenting voices as being political motivated.

Look at what non govt scientists are saying about climate change? a totaly differnt pov than the govt ones.

luckylavender · 28/07/2021 22:02

@TooOldandTired - the vaccine programme??? Totally different, I thought you meant the actual vaccines. The government has done well, although it's the NHS who deserve the most credit. And Europe is overtaking us in vaccine deployment now so we hear less 'world beating' bluster. I could find quotes or tweets but then so could you.

Tealightsandd · 28/07/2021 23:40

There's also people being turned away. They're only able to get a PCR test (and the FDA in America has said LFTs are too inaccurate) if they have one of the 3 symptoms listed by the NHS. Despite it being known that Delta often has different symptoms (and also it seems vaccinated people too).

Good news if true.

We do still need to be mindful of Long Covid disability risks though.

Quartz2208 · 29/07/2021 07:37

Where are people being turned away for tests? You can get them posted which means no checking and the times I have been no one has asked regarding symptoms. Plus there is a whole way of saying you have been asked to do so

The thing is testing can’t really be the reason either as that wouldn’t make a uniform consistent drop either in each area
