People who haven't got the App

Lots of people who use the app being "pinged". In our city it's affecting public transport as well as deliveries (as it is in many parts of U.K) .
Just think, people who don't have the app - maybe a high proportion of the elderly population and those who won't use the app. They will never be "pinged " or be told t isolate.

Sadly, without the app they'll never know if they're at risk of passing it to their loves ones.

ivykaty44 · 22/07/2021 14:07

I had the app on my phone, by lunch time my battery would be flat, as it drains an older battery. have deleted the app and am back to lock down style living. meeting outside, only going to work (nothing I can do about work) and not having visitors inside the house

tickingthebox73 · 22/07/2021 14:08

I turned mine off quite some time ago....I run a business and my 40+ employees who have it are "pinged" fairly constantly (I have at least one to two off each week) and NOT ONE has yet actually gone on to develop Covid.... I think it's a waste of time. They all claim full pay while off, so no incentive for them to remove it / switch it off.

Redcrayons · 22/07/2021 14:10

My phone is too old, so can’t download it.
I‘M double jabbed, test twice a week and don’t anything high risk.
I will have to upgrade soon as I can’t get the app to show my vaccine, but I don’t think I’ll be downloading it.

Most people I know with it, turn the tracing bit off or delete the app completely.

covetingthepreciousthings · 22/07/2021 14:13

Neither myself nor my DH have the app. We are both double jabbed, do LFT twice a week and don't actually really go anywhere like restaurants anyway.

When we have, we have signed in for test & trace, but never been contacted.

DH doesn't get paid for isolation by his company, so this puts me off wanting to go out to lots of places anyway.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 22/07/2021 14:13

I never downloaded it. Quite simply, I didn’t trust the government not to make a hash of it!

However, we’re both still mostly working from home. When we have been into work, both our work places have kept social distancing and mask wearing (and we’re enforcing covid restrictions). We are socialising outside (because the weather is nice), are always prepared to leave our contact details (the correct details). We’ve not had anyone over to our house. We don’t have children. The most likely place to catch it is during hospital visits, where our phones would be switched off anyway.

Dollpiglet · 22/07/2021 14:14

My parents don't have smart phones. Instead they have common sense.

Rabblesthecat · 22/07/2021 14:15

never had the app, never will......also don't give proper details when asked for them

EBearhug · 22/07/2021 14:17

Haven't got a functional phone just now anyway.

JellyBabiesFan · 22/07/2021 14:17

@Rabblesthecat

Same here

BIoodyStupidJohnson · 22/07/2021 14:18

I've never had it. Always felt like an intrusion too far to me.

But I test pretty regularly, I don't go to crowded places much and if we go out to eat or whatever we sign in via QR code anyway, so I've never felt like it was necessary.

Dustyboots · 22/07/2021 14:18

I’ve never had the app. I didn’t think we had to. It sounds like it’s more of a nuisance than anything else.

ivykaty44 · 22/07/2021 14:21

also don't give proper details when asked for them

thats I find a silly as its for your own protection

bananaJamas · 22/07/2021 14:21

Lots of people have deleted the app and don't want to be pinged. Myself included

jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey · 22/07/2021 14:21

No one in my house has ever had the app.
DD2 was contacted by T&T months ago and did isolate.

Ugzbugz · 22/07/2021 14:21

Its all a bit to late in the day by the time you receive a 'ping' plus no-one else in the household has to isolates.

Seems pointless to me.

Kids have been back to school, people have to work, apart from stay inside forever and die anyway whats the choice.

My t and T is turned off on the app as no one will pay my wages for multiple isolations! And I thought masks work anyway?

Ilikewinter · 22/07/2021 14:21

I had the app, never switched bluetooth on so the tracing bit doesnt work, ive now deleted the app.
However, ive realised that im missing the opportunity to get some free time off work so i might just install it again!

HelloMissus · 22/07/2021 14:23

I’ve deleted it.
If I am in close contact with someone who tests positive, they will tell T&T who will advise me to isolate. And I will.

But I’m not isolating because I walked past someone in a mask in Sainsburies.

Maryann1975 · 22/07/2021 14:23

I don’t have the app, because I’m self employed and can’t afford any more time off because an app full of flaws tells me I need to isolate. If the government seriously wanted people like me (minimum wage level) to isolate they would have put financial measures in place to enable us to do this. I’m not surprised @tickingthebox73 has employees willing to keep the app if they are on full pay when isolating. I would happily isolate if the financial penalty wasn’t so great, But after months of forced closure, I’m not in a position to take the chance, however selfish that makes me.

ButteringMyArse · 22/07/2021 14:24

@Lottie4

Except for Track and Trace...

@Lottie4

I think this is a bit simplistic. Covid is everywhere at the moment. Anyone who leaves the house is at risk of passing it onto loved ones, and doing so before being notified by a ping (by which time you’re likely to have been contagious).
delilabell · 22/07/2021 14:25

I haven't got it because I don't want to. I'm double jabbed test twice s week, still wear a mask and Gill in the forms when I go to placed. I'm not prepared to use something that I don't trust.

Angrymum22 · 22/07/2021 14:25

In healthcare so we were told to switch the app off. I have self isolated when I have had a significant contact with someone who has tested positive.

HelloMissus · 22/07/2021 14:25

If any of us are at real risk we’ll be contacted by T&T.
An advisory ping that you know no details about is barely ‘information’

idontlikealdi · 22/07/2021 14:25

I don't have it, never did, and don't know anyone who has. If they call me I'll absolutely isolate but the app isn't fit for purpose.
