People who haven't got the App

Lots of people who use the app being "pinged". In our city it's affecting public transport as well as deliveries (as it is in many parts of U.K) .
Just think, people who don't have the app - maybe a high proportion of the elderly population and those who won't use the app. They will never be "pinged " or be told t isolate.

My parents don't have a mobile phone of any description. It's impossible for them to get pinged.

DishingOutDone · 22/07/2021 15:21

I’ve never had it; I had no idea I should have. Me and millions of others in UK I imagine?

PeonyTime · 22/07/2021 15:37

None of us have the app.
DS has been told to isolate 3 times through named close contact.
DH has been told to isolate through close contact at work.

Yes, it may reduce the number of isolations, but it doesnt completely remove it.
DS tested positive for covid 6 hrs after the third request to isolate came through.

ilovesooty · 22/07/2021 15:41

The app was never mandatory but people who give false details when signing into places are utter scum as far as I'm concerned.

DinosaurDiana · 22/07/2021 15:47

I’ve got the app. A work colleague that was in the office Monday and Tuesday got a positive test Wednesday, and I’ve still not been pinged as she doesn’t have the app.

You are definitely not the only one. I didn’t realise it was a requirement. I do have it but it’s never ‘pinged’ either I’ve been lucky or I’ve not done it properly.

saraclara · 22/07/2021 16:00

I have the app, but don't have bluetooth on, as it drains my battery. So the app is useless.

But I am double jabbed, not going far, wearing a mask and always sitting outdoors at cafes or pubs, and as far from people as possible.

UmteenthUser · 22/07/2021 16:03

I deleted the app, so did DH, it was only on our phones for about 30 mins, we haven't got any loved ones to worry about bringing it home to.

BlondeCornish · 22/07/2021 16:06

Never had the app and have no intention of getting it.

WeatheringStorms22 · 22/07/2021 16:07

I deleted it as soon as I started hearing about people being pinged on the news.

No thanks.

JustMeAndWheatley · 22/07/2021 16:07

I’ve never had it. Most of my friends and all my family don’t have it.

SpringRainbow · 22/07/2021 16:07

I did have the app but I don’t anymore.

I barely ever go anywhere to be honest.

I don’t like crowds so even before the pandemic I avoided them.

We don’t really go to pubs or restaurants, even before Covid.

Quite enjoying getting absolutely everything delivered to the door.

The few places I do go to they have enough information about me to pass my details to test and trace if there was any risk involved.

I don’t believe I really believe my lack of app makes me a massive public health risk.

igelkott2021 · 22/07/2021 16:07

I haven't got the app. I work from home, eat outdoors and stay out of indoor spaces as much as possible. And I am double jabbed. I'd be very unlucky to get it/be contacted by T&T, but if I did, DH is also double jabbed and DS is partially jabbed.

If I go to the hairdressers they have my details. And I will be doing parkrun again from this weekend and they will have my details too.

worriedatthemoment · 22/07/2021 16:10

I have the app but only use it to sign in of they don't have pen and paper
I am concerned if I am sat in my car in traffic could it ping me if someone else comes down with covid ?
I hardly know anyone who has it now

alloalloallo · 22/07/2021 16:10

Despite having a phone that’s new enough and regularly updated, I could never get it to work.

Every time I opened it, it immediately closed. I could never get it to stay open whatever I tried - deleted/reinstalled, etc

T&T will contact me if I’m considered a contact

UmteenthUser · 22/07/2021 16:11

The app doesn't know if people are wearing a mask so it is pretty useless

caughtinanet · 22/07/2021 16:14

@Direstraitsmates

I've never had the app and have never had to self isolate.
Are you saying that those two things are connected in some way. My parents have the app and have never had to isolate either

So what? Whether you come into close contact with someone who tests positive hasn't got anything to do with whether you have the app.

And just because you haven't been told to isolate doesnt mean you've never been in a situation where you should have done. I don't get your point

Eminybob · 22/07/2021 16:16

Dh and I don’t have it and never will.
If a real risk occurs we will be contacted by T&T I’m sure.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 22/07/2021 16:17

Never had it because my phone doesn't support any apps.

AnnaSW1 · 22/07/2021 16:18

I have a new iPhone. It just wouldn't download. Not idea why. Not much I could do about that. I always provided my details as required when entering places though.

UmteenthUser · 22/07/2021 16:18

I guess it is handy if you get paid and want a couple of weeks off work to get some jobs done in the house and garden.

PromisingMiddleagedWoman · 22/07/2021 16:20

The app working accurately is based on so many assumptions, which just don’t add up, for example:

That everyone takes their phone with them everywhere. I don’t do this, especially if I’m only out for eg half an hour.

That even if you do take your phone out it is with you all the time. For example I went to a not particularly busy restaurant recently. Sitting at the table (where my phone was) there was no one else sitting nearby. The only time I got close to people was when I went to the loo and was standing close to a couple of other women (but I’d left my phone on the table…)

From my understanding the app doesn’t recognise barriers. I heard of someone who was contacted through it last autumn (when cases were pretty low) and it turned out her phone had been ‘near’ to her neighbours phone, and they’d caught covid. The app didn’t take account of the solid brick wall separating them though.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 22/07/2021 16:22

I had the app for half a day. No one is pinging me! I do LF tests 3x a week and a PCR monthly and social distance. Enough already!

Camomila · 22/07/2021 16:26

I've never had the app, between the nursery contact app, the school contact app, and the "signing into the work laptop" app my phone had no more space. DH and I both do LFTs twice a week though.

MrsFelicianoLopez · 22/07/2021 16:35

I don't understand why anyone downloaded the app in the first place. Bonkers.

At my workplace (a school) 25 members of staff got pinged when one person tested positive. Several of the staff hadn't actually seen the infected staff member for days/weeks (it's a big school), but had been teaching in classrooms on the same corridor or, in one particularly irritating case, directly above them on a different floor.

And don't even get me started on data security / privacy etc.
