People who haven't got the App

Lots of people who use the app being "pinged". In our city it's affecting public transport as well as deliveries (as it is in many parts of U.K) .
Just think, people who don't have the app - maybe a high proportion of the elderly population and those who won't use the app. They will never be "pinged " or be told t isolate.

Never had the app. Can’t have it on at work anyway.
Quite amazed tho at the amount of places I’ve been ( restaurants/cafes / hairdresser) where they don’t ask for your details

Bluesheep8 · 23/07/2021 06:58

never had the app, never will......also don't give proper details when asked for them

Giving false details when asked for them?
Unbelievable Hmm

UseOfWeapons · 23/07/2021 07:04

I don’t have the app, never had it.
Would have to switch it off at work anyway, NHS, but have weekly PCR, daily temperatures, and full PPE in clinical areas. Masks and SD in office.
I go to work ,go shopping , look after my parents, for which I wear masks. Double vaccinated, plus had antibodies from previous COVID infection.
Hospital has its own T and T, which contacts us if we’ve been in contact with a positive case.
We’re testing more than most countries here. My feeling is that most of us are being sensible, and doing what we can, and the way forward is testing and vaccination, not some daft app.

AutumnColours9 · 23/07/2021 07:08

People at work who have it are often isolating and having 10 days off paid. It does seem tempting at times..

OhEff · 23/07/2021 07:13

Deleted it after it told me isolate because it picked up next door... Twice!!!

Rabblesthecat · 23/07/2021 07:15

@Bluesheep8

Yes. Because no one is paying me my lost wages if I have to isolate and not work

Did it not occur to you to do it after the first time Grin
caughtinanet · 23/07/2021 07:53

@DinosaurDiana

I’ve got the app. A work colleague that was in the office Monday and Tuesday got a positive test Wednesday, and I’ve still not been pinged as she doesn’t have the app.
I don't quite see what you mean, if course you won't be pinged if the other person doesn't have the app. How could you be? Confused

Obviously both people have to have it, if she doesn't T and T will do the tracing but if she only tested positive on Wed it takes time for that to happen

wonderstuff123 · 23/07/2021 07:57

Don't have the app. My partner works in development of phones app, downloaded it and deleted it a few days afterwards saying it wasn't fit for purpose. My mum also got pinged in Jan cos her neighbour had it. So I deleted it soon after. I trust his judgement as someone who's worked in the sector for years more than the Government.

milkysmum · 23/07/2021 08:01

I'm a nurse and manage a care home. I do not have the app, and do not know anyone who has the app any more. I am double jabbed and test 3 times weekly. The app is of no use to anyone. By the time you have been pinged it is usually many many days after a potential exposure ( sometimes people are pinged with just a day or so left of isolating time to go ).
It is not fit for purpose and I would advise everyone to remove it from there phone ( I really am surprised now that anyone still has it to be honest ).

RubyGoat · 23/07/2021 08:01

I downloaded the app straightaway. It drained my battery like an absolute bastard. I couldn't use any other apps, use my phone for calls or texts, & was charging my phone at least twice a day. It's an older model (2nd hand) iPhone. I had to delete it in the end as I'm disabled & rely on my phone in case I fall & need a taxi to get home, get lost & need the maps function (I have awful memory loss & have got lost in my home town before on a bad day) & need to use reminders for everything due to the memory loss. Also I can't carry a handbag any more, so the less I carry the better, I pay for lots of things with apple pay & don't always carry my purse any more.

On what grounds not fit for purpose out of interest?
Mansplainee · 23/07/2021 08:01

I have the app, but like a lot of people I imagine, have turned off contract tracing. I just don’t trust it to work properly. I do regular lateral flow testing instead and PCR tests if I feel unwell.
Seems like they’re phasing this app/contact isolation out anyway now.

But don't you feel any concern that you could be spreading it?

Sadly it's not unbelievable. It just proves that some people are antisocial, irresponsible liars.

In that case don't go anywhere you have to leave your details. People who leave false details are despicable. Happy for your children to know you lie?

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 23/07/2021 09:04

none of us have ever downloaded it. never saw the point

Redlocks28 · 23/07/2021 09:06

I’m a teacher and was told to isolate after being down at the beach for the afternoon (that was the only place I’d been on the day of contact!). My Head teacher was really pissed off, my class had supply teachers for the week and the head strongly suggested to the rest of the staff that the app should be deleted.

Fordian · 23/07/2021 09:27

I'm in health care, and I don't have the App.

Currently over 50% of our HCAs and porters are isolating, and 10% of our HCPs.

One HCA is on her fifth round of isolation, and a porter on his fourth.

Another HCA was pinged and isolated although he'd left his phone in a locker all day.

I think there is some mickey taking going on here, given that not one has actually tested positive.

I'd love 10 paid days off, too, but morally I can't countenance it on the flimsy grounds the App relies on.

ilovesooty · 23/07/2021 10:31

I'm self employed and I have the app but I'm thinking of deleting it now as test and trace is mandatory and the app never has been. I've never been pinged anyway. I usually use paper methods of signing in and leaving my contact details on the rare occasions I go somewhere needing them. That would normally be somewhere like the hairdresser who has my contact details anyway. It seems that the app serves little useful purpose, especially as I've even seen people on here boasting about pretending to scan in.

FictionalCharacter · 23/07/2021 11:04

@HelloMissus

I’ve deleted it. If I am in close contact with someone who tests positive, they will tell T&T who will advise me to isolate. And I will.

But I’m not isolating because I walked past someone in a mask in Sainsburies.

This. You can still be contact traced if you don't have the app. The app can only detect proximity of your phone with someone else's phone. It doesn't mean you were at any real risk of infection.
chocolateorangeinhaler · 23/07/2021 18:40

Bear in mind that all hospitals in the uk (where all the sickest covid patients went) have big signs up telling all staff to switch the app off at work.
So very highly likely that with the NHs being the biggest employer in the UK managed to spread it about quite effectively via staff.

BlackeyedSusan · 23/07/2021 20:22

Not enough memory space on my phone. Cheap phone because disabled child and my disability. Still get pinged by school though.

How does the school ping people? What wizardry is that? At my DCs school they either ring or send a message on the school app

Are you in England @BlackeyedSusan ?Is the school somehow connected into the NHS app?
