People who haven't got the App

wordsareveryunnecessary · 22/07/2021 14:01

Lots of people who use the app being "pinged". In our city it's affecting public transport as well as deliveries (as it is in many parts of U.K) .
Just think, people who don't have the app - maybe a high proportion of the elderly population and those who won't use the app. They will never be "pinged " or be told t isolate.

OP posts:
Direstraitsmates · 22/07/2021 14:26

I've never had the app and have never had to self isolate.

janj2301 · 22/07/2021 14:27

work for a GP told NOT to instal it when it first came out, wouldn't have anyway. Double jabbed, don't go anywhere but work (I walk) and have two X LFT a week.

HelloMissus · 22/07/2021 14:27

DD got pinged when she was actually self isolating. Who the he’ll could she have had any contact with? It’s just stupid.

AddressLabel · 22/07/2021 14:28

@idontlikealdi

I don't have it, never did, and don't know anyone who has. If they call me I'll absolutely isolate but the app isn't fit for purpose.

Ifitquacks · 22/07/2021 14:31

No you’re right OP they won’t... what’s your point?

ZeroFuchsGiven · 22/07/2021 14:33

Ive never had it and never will. I don't go anywhere that requires my details.

MiddleParking · 22/07/2021 14:35

@Lottie4

Sadly, without the app they'll never know if they're at risk of passing it to their loves ones.
Surely no one would be thick enough to think there will ever be a time where there’s zero risk of passing a high-prevalence virus to other people Confused

As for it being for their own protection - no it isn’t! The app doesn’t protect the person who has it from shit. It might protect others they would come into contact with, to some extent - not a great enough extent to make it worth it in my book.

Thats horse poo.

I do not have the app but do lateral flows regularly and know who I've been in close contact with.

Starlightstarbright1 · 22/07/2021 14:38

@Maryann1975

I don’t have the app, because I’m self employed and can’t afford any more time off because an app full of flaws tells me I need to isolate. If the government seriously wanted people like me (minimum wage level) to isolate they would have put financial measures in place to enable us to do this. I’m not surprised *@tickingthebox73* has employees willing to keep the app if they are on full pay when isolating. I would happily isolate if the financial penalty wasn’t so great, But after months of forced closure, I’m not in a position to take the chance, however selfish that makes me.
Agree completely
ahoyshipmates · 22/07/2021 14:40

I can't get the app to work on my phone.

If I go to a cafe or wherever, I fill in one of their little paper forms instead.

FflosFfantastig · 22/07/2021 14:41

My phone is not smart. I just fill in paper forms too.

Santastealer · 22/07/2021 14:44

The app isn’t needed for many people.

If I’ve been within 2m of a person for more than 15 minutes then they would be a close friend of mine or a relative who would notify me themselves should they test positive. I don’t visit bars or nightclubs or use public transport.

I don’t need an app tracking my every movement.

Bananasarnie · 22/07/2021 14:46

I have an iPhone 6S so can’t download the app as my phone is too old. Surely if it’s that important to have the app it should be accessible to everyone.

Twattergy · 22/07/2021 14:48

I deleted the app because I do know enough about the risks of passing it on to my loved ones. Extremely low as we are all double jabbed. Unless I'm contacted by test and trace directly I'm not interested. There are plenty of infections I could pass on to my loved ones that could be extremely bad (and statistically more dangerous) for their health, flu, norovirus.

gogohm · 22/07/2021 14:49

My proximity thing has been turned off for months ever since it pinged me and it was next doors dd who was isolating there having been scooped up from university - I have never actually met her face to face, still haven't but I was within 2m obviously. Technology isn't fit for purpose

jebthesheep · 22/07/2021 14:51

I’m one who’s phone is too old for the App. I’m not sure who thought an elitist app was a clever idea - not an app for those on a budget or trying to reduce their electronics turnover. Perhaps the designers were all young, well paid and prioritized regular phone upgrades - so lack of diversity in tech ? Who knew.

Gillgardens · 22/07/2021 14:51

I am CEV so am staying home, but perhaps members of my household should. However, we live in an area of no mobile signal so they would not get the ping when they were home.

Topseyt · 22/07/2021 14:51

I deleted it because I was afraid it would soon become a pain in the arse

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 22/07/2021 14:58

In education. We were told to turn off/delete the app.

Mulanmoo · 22/07/2021 15:11

I’m not in the UK but the ’pingdemic’ is on all the news even here. Just wondering if some people use it as an excuse not to work, especially now that the weather is nice? Do you still get paid if you have to stay at home or how does it work? It seems like a nightmare tbh..

Sweettea1 · 22/07/2021 15:12

I don't have it and never will. I don't want yo isolate every other week because I've walked pasted someone shopping. As above said TanT will phone me if needed. An no not being selfish I do lft every couple of days.

Sockwomble · 22/07/2021 15:13

I don't need it because anyone who would be a close contact would tell me themselves. I keep my distance from strangers and don't go to busy places.

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 22/07/2021 15:14

I don't have the app and neither does DH.

Cosybelles · 22/07/2021 15:14

“Never trust anything that can think for itself if you can't see where it keeps its brain". I'm still surprised that so many people are willing to act on what the app, proven to be faulty and crap, tells them.

knittingaddict · 22/07/2021 15:17

I won't be pinged now (turned off scanning), but I will still isolate if I've been in contact with someone I later find out has covid and if track and trace contact me. When I've had my holiday in a few weeks time I may well turn scanning back on. I still check into venues with the app, but we hardly ever go anywhere and eat outside in restaurants on the few occasions that we go out to eat. Most of our food shopping and other shopping is online and I haven't been to a non food shop place in months.
