So...whose did a whole year without burst bubble?

From September to July, neither DD had a burst bubble at school or a day off through illness. They didn't attend school between January and March.

I realise this is down to good luck. But I'm intrigued... how lucky was this? The media and other platforms have made it seem like that children were constantly isolating.

(For full disclosure... their father was an essential worker who worked outside the home throughout the past 18 months... and only had to isolate once for 24hrs after mild symptoms while awaiting test results.)

DD1, her Y7 year/class didn't burst. The school had a couple of times with classes go off waiting for PCR (both times negative). One was 1 day out, the other was 2 school days lost.

DD2 (Y5) went in every day the school was open, but 2 other bubbles burst at the Primary school with positive cases.

Suffolk.

(crossing fingers because we could still get an email and we're on holiday on Saturday)

DataColour · 21/07/2021 13:32

Neither of mine. One in primary and one in secondary. Manchester

EatingAllThePies · 21/07/2021 13:33

My oldest hasn't had a burst bubble but my younger has had 3 (surprising as 50% of children in his year have a sibling in the older year group)

Banani · 21/07/2021 13:33

We managed it, year 2, plus one in nursery. School has only had two burst bubbles (one a keyworker one during lockdown) and nursery one. I know we’re very lucky.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 21/07/2021 13:35

We made it until end of last week.

Badgercity · 21/07/2021 13:36

Both kids bubbles burst twice.

Once before Xmas, and 3 times since June. DH and myself both key-workers and obviously weren’t allowed to used alternate childcare. It’s been a massive massive pain in the arse.

Crunchymum · 21/07/2021 13:41

8yo and 6yo and neither of their bubbles burst whilst they were in school (6yo get told to isolate after they had broken up for Xmas 2020), 3yo has had no bubbled burst at her nursery either.

However we have had loads of days off.

10 days in September due to a home test going missing so we all had to isolate for the full time.

The 2 months January - March.

4 days for the 6yo in May as she had a cough (a really bad one to be fair despite a negative test) plus a day or two for every other damn test we've had to do since May which is 5, so about 7 days isolating but not all in one go

Oddly enough between March and May my kids were all pretty clear, but since May the 3yo and 8yo have been tested once and the 6yo 3 times. All for a cough and all at different bloody times!!!

My DDs year were all fine. Only 2 othe years at primary affected since Sept. It had knock on effects on staff and wrap around care though but overall feel lucky. Plus her school closed on Friday as planned so seem to have missed the panicky bubble bursting last week of school that seems to be happening from other posts.

HotHointheavo · 21/07/2021 13:47

Yr8 we did until last Monday without a burst bubble. Monday night a friend had a +LTF. DD is due to holiday abroad as of this Saturday so we took the decision to keep her home after that! No time off for illness though.

DSGBT · 21/07/2021 13:52

My DS (reception) has had 2 isolations. Breaks up next week so still time for another! My niece has gone the whole year though without any and my twins nursery has had no cases.

Msgiggles30 · 21/07/2021 13:56

Im a teacher South Wales. Nursery, Year 1 and Year 3 only ones not to burst in our school. Pretty random.

finova · 21/07/2021 13:57

Nursery child bubble burst twice
Year 6 child bubble burst three times.

Year 3 child- never.

wordsareveryunnecessary · 21/07/2021 13:58

Lots at DS school( year 10) at the end of term there was over half his form missing.
But DS not missed any school. Maybe as he has some SEN and doesn't have many friends

majesticallyawkward · 21/07/2021 14:01

Full year with no school related isolations for y1 DD and she attended as a key worker child. She had 2 days at home when the toddler had a temperature and we had to get a PCR which was negative.

clto2021 · 21/07/2021 14:02

Unless we get a case between now and Friday the infant school I work at has managed to get through the whole pandemic without a single bubble bursting!! However both my sons have had to isolate due to bubble pops during the same time despite being their school being in a similar area.

wendz86 · 21/07/2021 14:03

My daughters year 1 and 5 haven't had a burst bubble. In their school year 2 have burst twice, nursery once and year 3 once.

Cosybelles · 21/07/2021 14:03

No cases reported ever in our day nursery, amazing!

99victoria · 21/07/2021 14:04

I am Chair of Governors at my granddaughter's infant school. We have got through the whole year without a single burst bubble! So proud of everyone's efforts

weakpanda · 21/07/2021 14:05

One out of four here managed the year without their bubble bursting. One's bubble burst 3 times 🙄

DistrictCommissioner · 21/07/2021 14:06

Unless we get a case between now & Friday... so far my DC's primary school hasn't had any bubbles burst at all -, small ish village school in the SW. My DC at secondary school hasn't had a bubble burst either, although there have been a couple of burst bubbles there, just not impacting on her.

KateTheShrew · 21/07/2021 14:07

DS has just finished yr 2 without his bubble bursting all year. This feels pretty lucky as it's a big infant school in a hard-hit North West city. They've had a handful of burst bubbles over the year but not as many as I expected considering local rates.

DistrictCommissioner · 21/07/2021 14:08

I'm not convinced it's based on anyone's efforts really. I am not aware of anything our school has done significantly differently to neighbouring schools that have had to close bubbles.
EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 21/07/2021 14:10

2/3 the middle ones bubble burst when he got covid

onemouseplace · 21/07/2021 14:13

I don't want to jinx it, but two of my DC have. I've kept them off a couple of days if they were coming down with something just to decide myself whether a slight cough developed into a persistent one, but other than that.

Youngest DC's bubble went twice though.

littlepeas · 21/07/2021 14:17

My eldest had one day off for a classmate’s positive lft - the PCR was neg and they were back to school the next day. That’s it. 3dc in 2 schools.
