So...whose did a whole year without burst bubble?

From September to July, neither DD had a burst bubble at school or a day off through illness. They didn't attend school between January and March.

I realise this is down to good luck. But I'm intrigued... how lucky was this? The media and other platforms have made it seem like that children were constantly isolating.

(For full disclosure... their father was an essential worker who worked outside the home throughout the past 18 months... and only had to isolate once for 24hrs after mild symptoms while awaiting test results.)

Fortunately DD (6) made it right the way through without her bubble popping.

Amazingly, in her infant school there wasn’t a single known case. In the attached junior school they had their first known positive yesterday which was the last day of term, sending one bubble home.

Both schools are inner-city with 3 classes for each year group so not that small.

DS yr5 has had no isolation this academic year, DD yr 7 had one period as a close contact early in the year.

Sounds as though we have been pretty lucky but both schools have had excellent covid procedures in place.

I have one of mine in primary school and one in nursery. No bubbles ever burst and we've only had to self-isolate a handful of times due to symptoms while awaiting a PCR result (all negative). As far as I am aware, there has not been a single case in neither nursery or the entire primary school. Nursery is just one bubble with all children and staff mixing, so even one case would have meant they all had to self-isolate. School bubbles are whole year groups and I've never seen a year group off at pick up time (one of us collects every day). It would have been obvious if a whole year was missing as they come out to be collected from different doors and they've all always been there.

We live in an area which has had pretty low rates compared to the rest of the UK though.

CookPassBabtridge · 21/07/2021 16:36

Our went nearly the whole year and then a few burst recently, just as things were opening up.

Saff2015 · 21/07/2021 16:36

Dd (5) got through the whole year without her bubble bursting. Funnily enough myself and my husband are nhs workers and no one in our household has had to isolate at all since this pandemic started. I was treating covid positive patients too last year when everything was shut down, so I’m not sure how we managed to get through the full thing with not a single one of us needing to isolate, having symptoms or having a close contact.

blahblahblah321 · 21/07/2021 16:42

Nearly!

My work bubble hasn't popped

DS1 got sent home from college for the first time 2 weeks ago

DS2, a week later

I blame DS2's school, the head sent out an email saying about how there had been no positive lateral flows since school went back in March, and bingo! 2 days later 3 children test positive pretty much sending home 2 entire year groups ShockGrin

emmathedilemma · 21/07/2021 16:43

My brother (primary teacher) and infant aged nephew both made it through the year despite being in a covid hotspot ......although they haven't broken up yet so hope i haven't tempted fate.....

Branleuse · 21/07/2021 16:46

I have two in different schools and neither have had to isolate or had bubble burst.
Other classes have

marieantoinehairnet · 21/07/2021 16:47

Half of our school are out, half of my children too, it's bloody draining, they're not just isolating either but a dull on outbreak of positives

QueenofLouisiana · 21/07/2021 16:49

DS (1500 in school, year group of 270) and DH (1800 in school, teaches a major subject) both managed it.
I didn’t (200 in school, class of 29).

Backofbeyond50 · 21/07/2021 16:49

Dd1 out once due to being a close contact of a Teacher apparently.
Dd2 year group had isolations but wasn't in school at the time.
Dd3 out once.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 21/07/2021 16:54

DC1's school did "close contacts" rather than class bubbles, so she swerved self isolation for the whole year. At one point there were only 9 kids in most of her classes, which she loved.

DC2 was off twice, including one whole school closure when the staffroom went down like ninepins and there weren't enough staff to open safely.

CarlottaValdez · 21/07/2021 16:57

We’re an outer London borough. No bubbles popped and no isolations or tests needed for any of us. Just really lucky ( so far).

moonfacebaby · 21/07/2021 17:03

No bubbles bursting for both of my children and I teach in a college, my class bubble didn’t burst either

megletthesecond · 21/07/2021 17:05

Two at secondary. So far we've been OK.

Crazycat53 · 21/07/2021 17:07

Last day today & we've made it through without either bubble bursting. Year 7 & year 3.

Missmonkeypenny · 21/07/2021 17:31

None at DD6s school or DS18m nursery - Hampshire

NearlyAlwaysInsane · 21/07/2021 17:32

Made it! No burst bubble. Primary. Hooray!

doublejabbed · 21/07/2021 17:34

My two Y8 & Y9 did the whole year without having to isolate

TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong · 21/07/2021 17:56

2/3 at secondary... although they were all isolating when the third's bubble burst as I had Covid...

DrMadelineMaxwell · 21/07/2021 18:08

I really have my fingers crossed that people who have just finished and think they are free of it are truly free. Three of my class came down with covid symptoms on Saturday, which meant isolating from the last day of contact when we thought we were clear.

tywysoges · 21/07/2021 18:10

cantkeepawayforever, I don’t where Tina is but DD’s school moved to remote learning after 11th Dec and they went back after Easter (12th April). We’re in South Wales.

beautifullymad · 21/07/2021 18:13

Almost! Bubble burst late last week on Friday. This is a big school so I'm surprised.

SlipperTripper · 21/07/2021 18:15

We managed it with a year 5 in East Sussex and year 11 in West Sussex. Still quite surprised

namesnamesnamesnames · 21/07/2021 19:07

When I said earlier on the thread that we did, that was the entire school - primary. My other child's secondary want so lucky but it's a much, much larger school.
