So...whose did a whole year without burst bubble?

From September to July, neither DD had a burst bubble at school or a day off through illness. They didn't attend school between January and March.

I realise this is down to good luck. But I'm intrigued... how lucky was this? The media and other platforms have made it seem like that children were constantly isolating.

(For full disclosure... their father was an essential worker who worked outside the home throughout the past 18 months... and only had to isolate once for 24hrs after mild symptoms while awaiting test results.)

DS1 at secondary school y8 didn’t have to self isolate at all, but I know there were cases in his year, so they must have had a smaller bubble system.
DS2 at primary school y6 had three sets of 10 day isolations. Two in the same month.

Yafilthyanimal · 21/07/2021 12:52

Yes! I can't quite believe it.

YoutubeZoom · 21/07/2021 12:52

DS's bubble never burst, but some other years did. North East.

mackers1 · 21/07/2021 12:53

We were lucky for our primary school child. Key worker school attended from January to March. Even with a move and school change during the year.

insancerre · 21/07/2021 12:53

I run a nursery and we have been open throughout and have had no positive cases at all

Angel2702 · 21/07/2021 12:54

My youngest DD at primary school hasn’t had to isolate at all.

Eldest is on his 3rd isolation since Christmas. Middle DS has had one isolation.

woodfort · 21/07/2021 12:54

Yes we managed it. Primary though so I’m sure people had it but without regular LFT we were all none the wiser.

North west here - one of the worst affected LA's.

Daughter one at sixth form college only had to isolate when she tested positive and when her cousin who was staying did - saying that she was only in college every other week

Dd2 in year 7 had I think 6 self isolations and was luckier than many

It's been utterly shit here

SulisMinerva · 21/07/2021 12:58

We managed it - small village infant school in Surrey.

Full time Nanny to 6 children 16 (left school now but no bubble burst before), 14, 11, 9, 7 and 3 (pre school) not a single bubble burst. Still a couple of days to go!

delilahbucket · 21/07/2021 13:05

Unfortunately not, DS isolated in October, including half term 🙄 and then we got as far as last Monday when his was the only year group still standing at secondary.
On the other hand, neither I nor DP have had to isolate so far. I work mostly alone, sometimes with one member of staff, DP works in a bank so has been going in to work throughout. His branch had one case and had to close but he was on annual leave already and wasn't in contact with the team member.

curiouscatgotkilled · 21/07/2021 13:07

I have three children across three schools, infants, juniors and high school. No burst bubbles for any of them, we haven't had any scares or tests either.
We are in South Wales.

Wineiscooling · 21/07/2021 13:08

I'm up north ! One of mine went the whole year without isolation, the other had just one isolation back in September. I'm a nurse and no isolation for me , no Covid, although most of my colleagues have had it or had symptoms and spells in isolation due to family members having it. I've said it now, we're probably doomed to get it just before my much needed holiday in August 😭

HelloMissus · 21/07/2021 13:09

Both my foster kids (tho I admit I pulled them last week to protect a holiday).

sol7 · 21/07/2021 13:12

I'm a teacher in the South East. My bubble popped three times. Every bubble in my school popped at least once. DC1's bubble popped once. Should have popped again this week but the test result arrived on Monday when schools were no longer responsible for contact tracing so the class stayed open.

DC2's bubble didn't pop at all. I think it was one of two classes that didn't have to isolate.

blameitonthecaffeine · 21/07/2021 13:15

No cases at all for us - from March 2020 to when we broke up 2 weeks ago. Amazing.

Ceara · 21/07/2021 13:19

Rural south east. The whole school almost made it to the end of the year unscathed. But they had their first popped bubble 2 weeks ago (my child's class, unfortunately). Cases locally are higher than they were in Jan.

CagneyNYPD · 21/07/2021 13:21

DD in Year 5 - no burst bubble for her but other bubbles in the school popped. Same for ds in Year 8. West Kent.

But a friend of mine nearby had her dd off 4 times due to bubbles popping. A lad on our road has it now. Luckily ds hasn't seen him for a few weeks anyway.

joystir59 · 21/07/2021 13:23

Me and my support bubble haven't burst since the begining.

SaffyWall · 21/07/2021 13:23

DS1 in Yr8 has not had to isolate at all (although still at school til Friday so we've got our fingers firmly crossed) but there have been a handful of cases in his school.

DS2 in Yr3 had to isolate in October for a week and is still in school til next Monday (thanks to Boris' ridiculous decision to close schools early at Christmas) - there hasn't been a case in his school since December.

We're in the north.

christinarossetti19 · 21/07/2021 13:26

One child having had to isolate twice and one not at all.

Appreciate that we've been very lucky.

Pootle40 · 21/07/2021 13:26

Me - 2 kids at primary school

Sockwomble · 21/07/2021 13:28

Ds hasn't had a school burst bubble but is isolating for the last week of term due to an adult contact on school transport. There are some cases in his school this week - the first since September. He attended all year.

NoMorePrimarySchool · 21/07/2021 13:30

Neither my Year 9 nor my Year 6 had to take any time off for bubbles bursting, so except for the Jan-Mar homeschooling they had a complete year, Year 6 complete with (virtual) end of school play and outdoor prom. I'm extremely glad and grateful.
