Been shopping this afternoon and was so nice albeit really strange to not wear my mask! I hesitated going in at first because it felt like I'd forgotten something!

If you've been out today, what did you find was the general consensus of people around you either wearing or not wearing masks?

I actually didn't see anyone in a mask which surprised me as I thought quite a lot would still wear them!

@Patapouf

Thankfully everywhere I've been today hasn't been full of selfish cunts who don't care about other people. I'd say 98% still mask wearing.

Totally agree dear. My 85 year old mother didn't wear one today because she's almost deaf and moaned about the elastic pulling out her hearing aids and not being able to lip read. Selfish cunt isn't she.

sasbiscuit · 19/07/2021 17:45

Almost everyone still wearing masks in shops on my high street.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 19/07/2021 17:46

LIDL in W Midlands, only saw one person not wearing a mask.

hellcatspangle · 19/07/2021 17:46

Only saw one person without a mask this morning in Tesco's - haven't been anywhere else.

stairway · 19/07/2021 17:47

Gas station, I put a mask on 😷 but no one else did. The employee had one round her chin so I’m not sure if that counted. I might brave not wearing one tomorrow. Everyone still wearing one on the school run like we’ve been told to do. Head teacher’s off with covid though.

Jocasta2018 · 19/07/2021 17:47

Today I've done trains to & from London & the Tube. The huge majority - over 95% - of people are still wearing masks & social distancing.

Bagelsandbrie · 19/07/2021 17:47

South Norfolk here and everything was as it was yesterday- everyone wearing masks. The vast majority of local shops have said no mask / no entry.

DSGBT · 19/07/2021 17:52

I went to the hospital and everyone had a mask on as I would have expected. Then I went in our local sainsbury’s and the vast majority of people were wearing masks. Cases in my area are very high though.

PercyPigandMe · 19/07/2021 17:52

Lots of people wearing masks and some not. I went to the gym and m and s and didn't wear a mask. I had one on me and would have worn it if I absolutely had to to but I always said I would stop when we were able to and I see no reason to change my mind.

Mask wearing is more performance theatre to me. Most people are in old manky masks, truly believing they're protected. I prefer to keep my distance where possible, practise good hand hygiene and I'm pleased I'm now able to make that decision for myself.

PercyPigandMe · 19/07/2021 17:54

@PuzzledObserver it isn't selfish to choose not to wear a mask. It is no longer required by law to do so and is at peoples discretion

Honestly some people would have us hiding behind the sofa until kingdom come..

HelloMissus · 19/07/2021 17:54

Hairdressers - asked us to wear masks, which I didn’t mind one way or the other.
Coffee shop next door had increased table capacity to usual and staff not in masks.
Customers not in masks - but they were eating and drinking to be fair.

InFiveMins · 19/07/2021 17:54

Then they will lose business because wearing a mask is not a legal requirement. So many foolish business owners taking this stance and will come to regret it.
Arsebucket · 19/07/2021 17:56

Young security guy on the door of Aldi very politely asking people if they would still wear a mask.

He got called a cunt twice in my ear shot (I live in a shithole).

I was going to wear mine anyway.

namesnamesnamesnames · 19/07/2021 17:57

I wore my mask in a shop then driving home, realised I didn't have to and how autopilot it is now. Odd times.

Jellybean8 · 19/07/2021 17:59

I think most people will continue with mask wearing. Today looked no different to this time last week when I went out. Tesco have emailed out saying they're continue to encourage mask wearing and social distancing which I think is great, particularly for staff members who may feel vulnerable being exposed to so many people all day every day

WeHaveComeSoFar · 19/07/2021 18:00

@gogohm

Masks mostly on except 20-30 year olds in lidl who were being stared at
Oh i'm sure they were really bothered Hmm
RedBonnet · 19/07/2021 18:01

Did school run, bus journey, boots, m&s, everyone wearing masks like nothing had changed

DogInATent · 19/07/2021 18:03

Shopping in Tesco and all but two people wearing masks. Everyone still respecting distance. Good to see that common sense is prevailing here.

Pretty much all the shops, pubs, bars and cafes locally have stated that they are maintaining their existing precautions. If it's cooler later in the week I'll have a cautious walk through town and see how well that's working.

RubyGoat · 19/07/2021 18:03

At least 90% still wearing masks inside shops, public transport etc here. Live in a medium sized middle class town, up North. I went to 2 smaller, rather wealthier & smaller towns by bus. Similar attitude re masks. And queues. I'd never have known anything had changed from last week.

It was nice to be able to take it off for a moment on the bus though, for a mouthful of water. Felt weird & subversive.

londonmummy1966 · 19/07/2021 18:03

Oxford St this morning - everyone on the tube in masks as still required - John Lewis the main contingent not in masks were members of staff rather than shoppers. Most other shops pretty well everyone was in a mask. Glad people are being sensible.

Emmelina · 19/07/2021 18:03

Nobody on school run had them. I’ve been to three shops today, Tesco twice and Costa to pick up an order. Most in Tesco were wearing as normal. Nobody at all in Costa, not even staff. That felt weird.
I wore mine as usual, it doesn’t cause me any distress and I don’t like where the numbers are at the moment.

AbsolutelySure · 19/07/2021 18:05

Most people wearing masks including me

Getawaywithit · 19/07/2021 18:05

Travelled on the M6 today. Stopped at a service station near Carlisle. I would say the majority still in masks and those of us sat outside were leaving a table free between us. I was genuinely surprised but very pleased to see it.

zeromango · 19/07/2021 18:06

It was 50:50 - I'm wearing a mask for the foreseeable as I'm pregnant and would like to keep others who are vulnerable safe.

itsgettingwierd · 19/07/2021 18:06

I'm going to also later.

I'm planning on wearing a mask.

However it's usually quiet when I go at 7.30 (as in about 8 people in there) and if that's the case I won't wear it to shop but will if staff prefer or prefer at least at the till.

They have a right to feel safe and having been a big voice about how unsafe educations been (my sector) I feel I should respect others rights to feel safe in work or I'm a hypocrite!
