Been shopping this afternoon and was so nice albeit really strange to not wear my mask! I hesitated going in at first because it felt like I'd forgotten something!

If you've been out today, what did you find was the general consensus of people around you either wearing or not wearing masks?

I actually didn't see anyone in a mask which surprised me as I thought quite a lot would still wear them!

Been to an out of town outdoor shopping center today. It was about 50/50. Some shops had staff all masked, though taking them down for a breather when not near customers, in one shop staff were completely mask free. There was an even distribution of ages mask/no mask.
Still spotted a few worn under noses. Maybe they're on the fence about the whole thing..

I don't work directly in theatres, but sort of indirectly. I went to visit a theatre today and every single member of staff was masked. This is because if anyone who works there gets pinged then the whole place closes, and a lot of people lose their income - be they a member of staff, or an actor, or a freelance technical person. So, yup, high levels of compliance in theatres.

CharleyChook · 20/07/2021 20:41

Everyone in Sainsbury’s was masked today. I’m CEV so I notice these things. Thank God the ability for people to do what think is best hasn’t been removed by this useless Government.

@MercyBooth

@LucilleTheVampireBat Its obvs anger at the "lower classes" for all the ski trips they went on at the beginning of all this hmm

It's interesting how people regard the " lower classes" well unless they are deliving to them.

It's interesting in recent history if you look at spy's the ones who betrayed us were the upper classes, not the average man.

I'm abroad, and have been in 3 different countries in last 2 days. Thankfully everyone is still wearing masks in enclosed spaces and using hand sanitiser where provided. This is probably helps with not having more that 50k new cases per day, and long may it continue.

Here are 7 tips from the Zoe COVID app which I think are practical things we can all do. I agree upthread that people should stop hurling insults at people not wearing masks, that's completely unjustifiable -

Respect others
Socialise outside
Wear a mask in poorly ventilated or cramped areas
Keep practicing good hygiene
Get your 2nd jab of the COVID vaccine
Know all the COVID symptoms
Keep logging with ZOE COVID Study

I went to Aldi yesterday and there was only a group of 3 20somethings and a woman who looked around 50 not wearing masks. All the staff were. I wore mine because I don’t like confrontation.

I went to the petrol station yesterday too and it was 50:50. I didn’t have a mask with me so didn’t wear one. The staff weren’t wearing one either.

I went to the chip shop tonight and didn’t wear one and the owner said he was relieved masks weren’t compulsory any more as he struggled to hear customers.

WeHaveComeSoFar · 20/07/2021 21:21

In London. The tubes are about half and half regarding masks - same with shops.

MercyBooth · 20/07/2021 23:35

YY @Againstmachine Like the Cambridge Spies.

Willyoujustbequiet · 20/07/2021 23:36

Every single person had one on in the supermarket today ( north east)
They'd be mad not to given we have the highest rate in the country.

CimCardashian · 20/07/2021 23:59

The majority of people were wearing masks on the train/bus and tube in London. I know they’re mandatory still on public transport but more people were wearing them today than I’ve seen before!

beentoldcomputersaysno · 21/07/2021 00:19

At school pick up, (outside and socially distanced), about 60% still masked, noticed more masks than usual outside on high street which seemed strange to me but maybe people were going to pop into different shops or were more nervous as cases high and restrictions gone, about 70 per cent wearing in supermarket. Nobody bothered anybody for their mask choices that I saw. I noticed more people than usual wearing them in cars as well. I put one on to go in the supermarket but not outside. I'm in a London borough with much lower than average vax rates.

HmmmmmmInteresting · 21/07/2021 02:21

I like to think some people are wearing them as an anti Bozo statement. If he told me the time I'd have to look at my watch. So if he says it's a good time to ditch restrictions I will ignore him until I think it's a good time.

Mydogdoesntlisten · 21/07/2021 09:54

I went out and there was hardly anyone without a mask. It's funny, but there seemed more people saying they would stop beforehand than actually seemed to end up doing so. Is it peer pressure, rather than a genuine belief that these things do any good, and will this ever end?
I went out without as tbh given the rising cases it seems illogical to me to actually think that these things are any more than pretty useless. I did make sure I was scrupulous about social distancing however. Last year that actually seemed to work given the very low numbers in the summer (which were falling before masks were mandated if my memory serves). I felt incredibly self conscious.

toolatetooearly · 21/07/2021 10:00

I went to the pub "normally" last night, it was great. We walked in, ordered at the bar (kept my mask on for that, which the bar staff appreciated), sat where I wanted, went back to bar, etc etc.

I have no idea if was a good or a terrible idea to reopen things- - but I'm going to enjoy it while I can.

And weirdly, I reckon I saw MORE masks being worn on the tube on the way there than at any other point over the last few months.

itsgettingwierd · 21/07/2021 19:44

I've been out and about a bit more the past few days as have had errands to run.

Every business still has their numbers limited to X signs, requests for masks, SD floor markings and signs etc.

And 99% of people are just complying or would carry on that way anyway and the small group who are t probably weren't already!

itsgettingwierd · 21/07/2021 19:45

@PoorPawsPickPawpaws

The only person I noticed not wearing a mask was the lorry driver at the petrol station - who yelled "you don't have to wear a muzzle anymore love" to me in the most aggressive way.

He was blessed with one of my most witty and clever retorts: "go f* yourself" 😁

I think everyone else was in masks. But I live in a village so it's not the largest sample size!

I'd have had to reply "with a gob like yours I'm sure a number of people wish you would wear a muzzle"
