If you've been out today what has been the general consensus?

Been shopping this afternoon and was so nice albeit really strange to not wear my mask! I hesitated going in at first because it felt like I'd forgotten something!

If you've been out today, what did you find was the general consensus of people around you either wearing or not wearing masks?

I actually didn't see anyone in a mask which surprised me as I thought quite a lot would still wear them!

Buzzinwithbez · 19/07/2021 20:12

A few people wearing them under their noses today. Why?

manywildhorses · 19/07/2021 20:14

On the tube I saw two women get verbally abused for not wearing a mask. At that point it was 50/50 masks/non-masks. In central London it was about 90% masks. There were announcements on the underground asking you to wear them.

In shops it felt disrespectful not to wear a mask as most were, including shop assistants. At a medical appointment I was given a fresh mask, asked to sanitise and fill in a COVID form.

It didn't feel much like freedom day. From what I saw today this is going to divide the public even more. So now, as well as the vaccinated and unvaccinated we also have the masked and unmasked. With a fair amount of judging thrown in Confused

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 19/07/2021 20:14

Went shopping in town and to the hairdressers and most people were wearing masks inside still

The hairdresser was pleased I was willing to wear one and said their policy is to encourage but not insist.

southeastdweller · 19/07/2021 20:14

@Indigopearl

90% of people in Tesco were wearing them today which is about the same % as last week.

Can I ask those of you who saw limited mask wearing today where about in the country do you live?

I’m in a city in the north west.
JesusIsAnyNameFree · 19/07/2021 20:17

@Againstmachine

Nah, the poster was pretty spot on.

Imagine being that selfish you want everyone to see your way otherwise they are selfish cunts nope not spot on at all.

I hate masks but I will wear them for other people. I will be uncomfortable and miserable in a mask for others, because unless I wear a couple of specific types of masks, it doesn't protect me but the people around me. Is that the definition of selfish in your book?

That's your choice but to call anyone who doesn't do the same selfish cunts is rather pathetic.

RoseWineTime · 19/07/2021 20:22

I went to IKEA and Waitrose and almost everyone was in a mask 😷

BlackKnightinYellowWellies · 19/07/2021 20:31

Me and my (almost) grown up children went out for our tea, no masks! Smile
For me it's not really so much about the masks, but about the first step towards getting our lives back.
I really am sick of the idea that wanting a normal life, education for young people and careers is selfish.

PickAChew · 19/07/2021 20:32

@treedragon

Not sure how it would pan out on a bus if someone got on behind you with no mask on and you asked them to put a mask on or move elsewhere..... Especially if you were there first.
This is one of the reasons my son has more or less become a shut away, through the pandemic. He refuses to get his forehead tattooed with his medical and psychiatric history and people can be so rude.
Patapouf · 19/07/2021 20:38
@Patapouf

Thankfully everywhere I've been today hasn't been full of selfish cunts who don't care about other people. I'd say 98% still mask wearing.

Totally agree dear. My 85 year old mother didn't wear one today because she's almost deaf and moaned about the elastic pulling out her hearing aids and not being able to lip read. Selfish cunt isn't she.
The reason I still wear a mask is to protect people like your mother.

You're welcome.

CertieCumboyle · 19/07/2021 20:45

I am going to work tomorrow (customer-facing role) and will be bloody glad not to be forced to wear a mask, which has been the very worst thing about my job since this all began.

Others are free to do as they like. But please don't judge me for not "keeping you safe", and I won't judge you for your choice.

But by wearing a mask as you go in then the likelihood of getting things back to normal will happen more quickly. I just don't see the issue 🤷🏼‍♀️
Thewiseoneincognito · 19/07/2021 20:51

The OP ‘popping’ on to gently merrily suggest no one was wearing a lickle cheeky mask where ‘she’ is, you lil rebel you OP. ‘She’ was surprised to see everyone else had released themselves from mask wearing too. Anyone else smell a rat?

She must live in Cuckoo land clearly. 🙄

Yet you’re contributing to the very threat to getting our lives back by thinking not wearing a face mask now is going to help.

Surely you’re not that naive are you BKYW? I’ll go with maybe you are and suggest you educate yourself on the reasons why mask wearing is necessary to getting back to normal, you might find yourself wanting to put it back on again rather quickly.

catwithflowers · 19/07/2021 20:57

@Florelei

I don’t know where you live but here in the NE cases are extremely high and most people seem to realise that this is a small thing we can do to try to keep cases down and business open.
Same here. Just popped into Morrison's but I would hazard a guess that 9/10 were wearing masks. Including me.
thelastgoldeneagle · 19/07/2021 20:57

@WineBrats is clearly as thick as mince!! Oh dear 😂😂😂

Abraxan · 19/07/2021 21:00

Only been to local shops and pharmacy. Everyone still wearing masks in those. Still social distancing and still restricted numbers allowed in each shop a they are small.

Teen Dd has gone out. Still masks on the bus and people were wearing them. Be interesting to ask her tomorrow what the crowds were like in the cars and what the nightclub will be like.

Dh works in town so went out and about at lunch. Inside shops and cafes people were still in masks, more in masks than without. No one getting really close so some natural SDing still happening.

This is why I wear a mask (as well as to hide upper lip sweat moustaches).

thelastgoldeneagle · 19/07/2021 21:01

@PickAChew: He can't walk far, any more, and that's a bigger worry than Covid

How come a teen can't walk any more?? Couldn't you find quiet places for you all to walk during lockdown?

Abraxan · 19/07/2021 21:02

Felt weird to go into a pub and be able to order at the bar though!!

I'm hoping some places I go to keep table service. Was so much nicer!

We have plenty of quiet places for a walk but they're not much use to someone who won't leave the house for weeks or months on end.

RowanAlong · 19/07/2021 21:14

Yes everyone’s still wearing masks round here...no difference really!

Againstmachine · 19/07/2021 21:18

You really aren't masks don't work. You are contributing to it by continuing to wear them

Backofbeyond50 · 19/07/2021 21:18

Most still wearing masks.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 19/07/2021 21:19

Been to a supermarket and motorway services today. Almost everyone still wearing masks. The situation hasn't changed overnight .
