Been shopping this afternoon and was so nice albeit really strange to not wear my mask! I hesitated going in at first because it felt like I'd forgotten something!

If you've been out today, what did you find was the general consensus of people around you either wearing or not wearing masks?

I actually didn't see anyone in a mask which surprised me as I thought quite a lot would still wear them!

@Againstmachine

Yet you’re contributing to the very threat to getting our lives back by thinking not wearing a face mask now is going to help.

You really aren't masks don't work. You are contributing to it by continuing to wear them

LOL ok. You sound like a genius.

😏😆

itsgettingwierd · 19/07/2021 21:28

Went to Aldi. Slightly busier than usual but everyone still in masks

murrunda · 19/07/2021 21:30

I am taking bus tomorrow and I am not sure wether to wear mask. I sometimes get car sick and a mask is not helping. I think I wear it when going in but if I start to feel sick I take it away.

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 19/07/2021 21:32

You are contributing to it by continuing to wear them

I don’t care if people wear masks or not…I’ll do what i want to do

But I’m curious…how does me wearing a mask in a crowded indoor area contribute to covid?

Toottootdrivers · 19/07/2021 21:38

I've been away for the weekend. This morning at breakfast in the hotel I would say 70% of people were wearing masks

Crunchymum · 19/07/2021 21:39

Pretty much normal for me.

School drop off - most people wearing masks (as requested by the school....even though drop off and pick ups are outside)

Nursery - noone wearing masks but social distancing still in place (again drops off and pick ups are outside but the nursery has never insisted on masks for this, which seems sensible)

Sainsburys and M&S, I'd say 90% masked and all staff I saw in both stores were all masked.

KalvinPhillipsManBun · 19/07/2021 21:40

@Florelei

I don’t know where you live but here in the NE cases are extremely high and most people seem to realise that this is a small thing we can do to try to keep cases down and business open.
I am in the NE and nothing has changed, some wear masks, but it's back to normal and hot!
bellamountain · 19/07/2021 21:40

Popular seaside resort today, arcades full of people with no masks. Kids love it though, had to try and win them something....! Hopefully not Covid.

Lau52 · 19/07/2021 21:41

Majority people wearing masks when I was out today including myself. I’m still going to wear one. I’m going to Wales in few weeks and still wearing masks there. People in many other countries also wear masks to avoid pollution, germs whatever why would it be so bad if people continue to use them here.

littlepeas · 19/07/2021 21:42

In Cornwall on holiday. We went to the zoo and barely anyone wore a mask. I noticed a lot of people had them in their hands but didn’t put them on when they saw that others weren’t wearing them. In the pub for dinner later on it was mixed - some staff wearing them and some not - some people came in wearing them and others didn’t. Dh popped to Tesco and most people were masked.

Backofbeyond50 · 19/07/2021 21:44

*Carrotcakeforbreakfast

I mentioned on another thread today that I went into aldi and only saw about 5 people without them.
And to me they look exactly like the people you would expect not to wear a mask even before today.

You mean poor, lower class, grubby types with the intellect of a crisp bag? Is that what you mean*

The ones I normally see not wearing them seem to be pretty young things taking loads of selfies. Not grubby at all.

Lemonmelonsun · 19/07/2021 21:47

Unfortunately quite a few people masks less and mainly late teens.
I felt very cross with actually.

Againstmachine · 19/07/2021 21:48

*I don’t care if people wear masks or not…I’ll do what i want to do

It contributes to mask wearing continuing when all it is, is a app, it makes people feel better but doesn't achieve anything.

Chamonixshoopshoop · 19/07/2021 21:48

Most people wearing masks in the supermarket.
Selfish assholes who never wore them to begin with still aren’t.
I was heartened to see most people do care about one another.

PuzzledObserver · 19/07/2021 21:50
@PuzzledObserver it isn't selfish to choose not to wear a mask. It is no longer required by law to do so and is at peoples discretion

Honestly some people would have us hiding behind the sofa until kingdom come..
Yes, it is no longer a legal requirement, of course. That does not change the fact that it does make a difference to transmission - and at a time when case numbers are rising dramatically, I do believe it is selfish for someone who easily could wear one not to do so in a busy indoor environment.

That is my opinion. Yours is different. You have the right to choose whether to wear a mask or not. You don’t have the right to control other people’s opinions of your choice.

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 19/07/2021 21:51

It contributes to mask wearing continuing when all it is, is a app, it makes people feel better but doesn't achieve anything

Ah, i see

So its not contributing to covid then, I obviously misunderstood your meaning, i took it to mean that mask wearing was making covid worse….not having no effect one way or the other

PuzzledObserver · 19/07/2021 22:02

I really am sick of the idea that wanting a normal life, education for young people and careers is selfish.

Who said that? I want young people to be able to have education, careers and normal lives too - so I’m taking reasonable steps to reduce the risk of me transmitting the virus, because in order for them to have their education and so on, we need to get this bloody virus under control.

But if you can explain to me how me not wearing a mask would bring about the end of the virus more quickly, I’m all ears.

olivethegreat · 19/07/2021 22:04

I pick up from the GP pharmacy which is outside . I stand back from the window. I've not worn a mask at it since about April but I definitely feel that other people (not the pharmacists ) are judging me. It's outside though. Reckon it's ok not to wear a mask here ?

puppeteer · 19/07/2021 22:08

Come on, @PuzzledObserver: "it does make a difference to transmission - and at a time when case numbers are rising dramatically, I do believe it is selfish for someone who easily could wear one not to do so".

It's not on to chastise people for not making effort to limit transmission when they do so within the law.

If you really want to make a meaningful impact on transmission, you're much better not going out at all. Arguably masks do help. But not much. Much more helpful is not seeing people, working from home, limiting contacts, etc.

I wouldn't say you are being selfish by failing to do those things. But surely by your logic, you are being.

No?

beautifullymad · 19/07/2021 22:08

Respectful mostly . Almost everyone distancing and in masks apart from a few 20+ year olds who weren't distancing either.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 19/07/2021 22:09

I really am sick of the idea that wanting a normal life, education for young people and careers is selfish.

That is not selfish. What IS Mn selfish is not taking the precautions which might help get us there.

MirandaWest · 19/07/2021 22:13

In York went in post office, co op and Aldi. Virtually everyone wearing a mask in all of them.

NoVaccinePassportsAnywhere · 19/07/2021 22:16

I went for a maskless food shop this morning and found 90% still wearing masks. I kept a good distance from everyone and no one gave me hassle for not wearing one.

Onthegrid · 19/07/2021 22:18

I am on holiday at the seaside in England.
Been to a country park today, masks being worn in cafe and toilets by customers and staff just as before
Plus all staff elsewhere including outside still wearing them.

Popped to food store and again all wearing masks.

Titsywoo · 19/07/2021 22:20

All but 5 people in my local Sainsburys were wearing masks today so about 95%.
