I'm off shopping today. No mask for me! Am about to argue with DD's school staff as they are expecting us to all wear them at drop off / pick up still - OUTSIDE. In a massive, massive space, with staggered starts so there's absolutely no crowding.

newroundhere · 19/07/2021 08:54

@ItsVousNotMoi

You can't be fined now though can you?
No, but you can still pass on covid - no change to the reason we were wearing them in the first place....
luckylavender · 19/07/2021 08:55

@EmRata95 - I was thinking there's little point in you having one at all as you clearly can't be washing it after every use. So crack on 🤣

JassyRadlett · 19/07/2021 08:55

This says elective. In Birmingham we are hearing Liver Transplants are cancelled too.

Yes the Indy says all planned surgeries including liver transplants and cancer surgeries.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 19/07/2021 08:58

I’m not in the UK and we don’t have COVID here

Where are you where you don’t have COVID? North Korea?

gardeninggirl68 · 19/07/2021 08:58

Was anyone ever fined before today for not wearing a mask? Or was it an empty threat?

GreenesAlibi · 19/07/2021 08:59

I'm wearing one. Reasons are, variously: it's a small easy thing to do, I'm not a dick, it protects other people, I'm not a dick, it helps people feel more comfortable, I'm not a dick, it helps prevent CV and CEV people being excluded from society, I'm not a dick etc.

I could be wrong but I think the ones that were contested were all thrown out? Unfortunately a lot of people just paid up.
Backofbeyond50 · 19/07/2021 09:05

Judging my the number of people wearing masks on school promises which is outside I don't think much will change as only saw 2 people without masks. Clearly tge British public are more sensible overall than the Govt .

Medievalist · 19/07/2021 09:07

To the people saying they've had enough of mask wearing, how do you think the thousands of people on NHS waiting lists feel?

Getyourarseofffthequattro · 19/07/2021 09:08

Your world view is appears to be centred on others protecting you, rather than you protecting others

If this was aimed at me you're totally wrong. I don't feel that anyone owes me protection. I don't feel I need it, either. I'm double jabbed otherwise fairly healthy, young and not stupid. I don't often go to busy places anyway.

My issues is with others who feel they are owed protection from those they don't care about, those they have insulted and continued to insult, those they couldn't spare a grain of empathy or humanity for when they were suffering.

I am sick of the entitlement of the worried well.

Do you think that calling people dicks will encourage them to wear one or do you think it'll do the opposite?

I am one and thus far me wearing a mask hasn't brought me any further up the list. If I ever see anyone in the NHS regardless of pandemic it will be nothing short of a miracle. I've been fobbed off waaaaay earlier than covid.
MrsCremuel · 19/07/2021 09:11

I’m in my third trimester, not fully vaccinated and on my third chest/throat/sinus infection. I will be wearing it because rates are soaring and it could be very bad for me. It could still be fatal for others so my the sake of my health and theirs, the mask stays on. I’ll be avoiding busy or indoor spaces too so not a freedom day for many.

Figgygal · 19/07/2021 09:11

How about wearing a mask because it’s the conscientious and responsible thing to do?

SilverOak · 19/07/2021 09:13

Relying on common sense only works if people have some. I’ve gone back to ordering everything online and not going out, because it’s no longer safe for me thanks to selfish people refusing to wear masks.

Worldgonecrazy · 19/07/2021 09:14

I’m not wearing one because (a) I’m not a dick (b) I believe the science and (c) I care deeply about other people’s health and well being.

That argument actually works both ways. Amazeballs Grin

Lweji · 19/07/2021 09:14

You'll be silly not to wear one.
Unless the windows are open and the carriage is almost empty.

What people can do is get you covid.

As more people stop wearing masks, I'd start wearing really good masks.

endofthelinefinally · 19/07/2021 09:17

"On Monday, the hospital had 110 coronavirus inpatients, 19 of whom were in intensive care. But by Friday, this had risen to 166 with 30 in intensive care".

Quote from the Birmingham hospital article.

DaniellaDavis · 19/07/2021 09:20

Wearing mine, case numbers are rising - Be stupid not too at least for a little longer. Doesn't bother me whatsoever to wear a mask.

So you're going to pass on the responsibility for your safety to workers on zero hour contracts who won't get paid if they become ill, and who work in crowded unventilated warehouses where SD isn't possible? If you're CV it's fair enough, but otherwise (and for every other non-CV saint refusing to leave the house and abdicating all responsibility) I'm afraid that's the very definition of selfish.

Exactly. Moral superiority is hard to claim when you are choosing to pass what you see as a threat to your life onto the poor.

VoyageInTheDark · 19/07/2021 09:26

Still have to wear one on the school playground to drop off DD so same amount of daily mask wearing so far

I'm on the waiting list for 5 joint replacements. The pain I am in is unimaginable some days. But I am still not wearing a mask anymore unless at the hospital.
Chanel05 · 19/07/2021 09:32

No mask for me today.

DH has said the tube is about 50/50 for mask wearing. It's so hot already!
