And Asda was same as last week too!

@Getyourarseofffthequattro

This pandemic certainly reveals people's true nature and values

Certainly has, people thinking that others who they couldn't give a shiny shit about, who they insult on a regular basis, should want to help protect them. It's laughable.

Your world view is appears to be centred on others protecting you, rather than you protecting others .

That's not who everyone aspires to be or teach their kids to be, especially for some minor inconvenience.

PinkDaffodil2 · 19/07/2021 08:23

I hope the majority of people will still be wearing them on my train to work. I’ve had two jabs and very unlikely to be unwell with COVID but would really rather not catch it mildly / asymptomatically and pass on to my patients, including the nursing homes we cover. Also it would be an absolute pain for the surgery to be down a doctor for 10 days, and will set me back in terms of training and exams.
I understand people not liking wearing masks, or taking them off on an empty bus etc, but with cases so high and hospitals filling up surely most of us can stick with wearing in most settings for a few more months?

awaywiththefae · 19/07/2021 08:23

Just wondering… if masks really work then why have we been in and out of lockdown/ seeing cases rise. I realise there are variants but surely a mask should prevent spread of all viruses, the fact they don’t surely means they’re useless?

Because the virus spreads more easily when masks are not worn. The virus is spreading in classrooms and among friends getting close inside.

Ugh these rules are ridiculous. So much to unpick if I could be bothered.

I mean we all know the rules make no sense…this is going to be comedy gold in someone’s history lesson in fifty years time.

‘So Miss… they had to wear a mask outside in a garden centre but could sit in a group of 6 people at a restaurant without a mask.’
‘Yes Tommy’ ‘Tommy: …. ???’

Ridiculous

MyGardenSanctuary · 19/07/2021 08:27

In the most recent bad winter - 2017-18 - there were 300 to 400 flu deaths a day at the peak, more than is being predicted for this summer's Covid peak.

Did all the virtue signallers wear masks then to stop flu spreading? Nope. No-one gave a shiny shit.

ChaToilLeam · 19/07/2021 08:27

So glad not to be in the UK, but worried for friends and relatives. Three family members have just come down with COVID, two were double vaxxed. This is not the time to loosen up restrictions, it’s bloody madness. It is clear that we cannot rely on people using common sense.

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 19/07/2021 08:27

I will be. The biggest hospital by me (Queen Elizabeth in birmingham) has had to cancel life saving operations this weekend due to ICU being full of covid patients. My mask is staying for quite a while. I can't morally get rid of mine yet. It would feel wrong as our hospital is struggling.

Hospitals are not filling up (with Covid patients). If you are a Dr you should know that

They cancelled life-saving operations, did they? So they just let people die because someone needed an ICU bed because they had Covid?

Ha. Likely story 🙄

Of course that happened.

Backlog of other cases mainly. ICU not full of Covid patients.

This says elective. In Birmingham we are hearing Liver Transplants are cancelled too.

Downtown36 · 19/07/2021 08:36

Off to a play cafe with my children and will not be wearing mine - hooray!!!

MyGardenSanctuary · 19/07/2021 08:36

Stop spreading false news

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 19/07/2021 08:36

Actually the QE in brum has cancelled surgeries - it’s impacting FIL and his cancer treatment.
Not sure if it’s isolating staff or Covid cases however vaccination rates for the city are shite compared to others - almost 20% less double jabbed people than my town

No one EVER said masks would stop the spread of all viruses. Reduce the spread absolutely, useful as part of a raft of other mitigations (well they were. There are plenty if safety measures we take that aren’t 100% effective, that does not mean they’re useless.

Theworldisfullofgs · 19/07/2021 08:37

It is rubbish in Birmingham. I am not sure of the vaccination uptake, but I do imagine it is low.

Couldn't wear one to start off with but the lanyard is going today. People can just assume I'm a knob rather than assuming I'm a knob faking it in a sunflower lanyard.

SprayedWithDettol · 19/07/2021 08:45

I dont use public transport, but I’m out shopping later and will be wearing a mask. It’s the decent thing to do.

Lavender24 · 19/07/2021 08:51

Haven't worn one after the first couple of weeks last June when they were made "mandatory". I have however stopped wearing my lanyard from today as it's bowing down to social pressure just as much as wearing a mask, plus people have been complaining about the lanyard scheme being taken over .

Yep same here. I've had enough.
