@mumsiedarlingrevolta

It's rather like if Churchill had suddenly said "well-it's freedom day from WW2" lets all just stop fighting and ignore the threat and it will be fine.

Nothing bad will happen will it?
That should sort everything.
Those pesky bullets will not harm anyone because I said so.

Agree
Blessex · 20/07/2021 15:57

Mask free and lots more today are.

MostlyMaple · 20/07/2021 16:01

@lweji nope not had covid, had both vaccines now and to be perfectly honest I don't really care if I catch it. I'd just isolate and work from home 🤷‍♀️

Oh look, another spurious WW2 comparison!
whistlers · 20/07/2021 17:23

I know. Except, it's not a war Hmm

poshme · 20/07/2021 17:28

I popped into a shop today and was pleased not to faff about putting on a mask.

I'm no risk to anyone else at the moment.

Wilkolampshade · 20/07/2021 18:37

Rates vary quite widely though?
Percentage ratio masked : unmasked, I'd say
locally in the 24 hour convenience stores, baklava and patisserie shops 60 : 40
Sainsburys 80:20
Tube generally unchanged and still high, so 90:10 BUT both my kids were out out last night and compliance very low on the tube late at night. One had a video of a friend and you could see in the background only a minority in masks... although this was the Victoria Line on our hottest day so far so hardly surprising...

ihatefacemasks · 20/07/2021 18:43

@whistlers

Is MN social media?

It's just a forum isn't it

Yes, I'd say it's just a forum.
ihatefacemasks · 20/07/2021 18:44

Btw, I went to M&S today and was one of about three people not wearing a mask. I didn't get close to anyone, though I'd never have been getting close to strangers pre-Covid either.

You cannot possibly compare a virus to the atrocities of World War 2. That's insulting.

Seriously?! You’re comparing a flimsy piece of fabric to the efforts of war heroes!
ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 21/07/2021 15:15

I'll be grateful to anyone still wearing masks. My mum is dying in a care home. I need a negative test each day to see her. If I catch it, which even double jabbed I have a 40% chance of, I can't go in. She won't last 10 days.

So I'm wearing a mask because although Covid won't harm me, it would be dreadful if I caught it.

People who only care about their 'freedom' might try thinking about others for a second and weighing up how hard it is to wear a mask vs the harm it could do not to.

herecomesthsun · 21/07/2021 16:28

Also grateful to mask wearers, especially indoors and when it's crowded.

It's akin to the WWII national effort insofar as it is making an effort together that benefits other people generally, especially the most vulnerable, and the nation as a whole.

It is a shame that leadership & messaging have been so poor.

beentoldcomputersaysno · 21/07/2021 16:34

Wearing inside public places such as shops etc.

Gladimnotcampinginthisweather · 21/07/2021 16:40

Went to IKEA MK yesterday and it seemed almost as though nothing had changed. We queued to get in, limit on number in lift, everyone except one family wearing masks. It was as near to a pleasant shopping experience as you can get in IKEA. Main noticeable change was that the yellow bags were back. (Didn't go in the café).

I was also in the MK Ikea today and it was similar to how you say, we also didn't go into the cafe, we went in the lift with one other person, a couple of staff were not wearing masks but may have been exempt anyway. I did think it was quite busy for a hot sunny week day but we don't go that often so it may have been normal.
Honey12346 · 21/07/2021 20:41

@ItsVousNotMoi

You can't be fined now though can you?
I'll let you in on a little secret; you could have never been fined if you said you're exempt

@Paquerette but I've worn a mask for months. And social distanced. And worked from home. And followed guidelines.

And yet covid is still here.

No more mask for me. Done with it.“

Have you contracted Covid?

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 21/07/2021 21:02

I went to Tesco earlier and everyone was in masks except those in cafe.

MostlyMaple · 21/07/2021 22:18

@MrsSkylerWhite no, never had covid. I've always followed guidelines now and even though I've stopped wearing the mask I'm still keeping a distance and working from home. I would wear a mask if a shop asked me to though.

TertiusLydgate · 22/07/2021 11:37

The only places I’ve been so far are to the gym and to get petrol.

No customers at the petrol station in masks, but till attendant wore one.

Reception staff at the gym were wearing masks, but no gym customers. But that’s how it was before Monday tbh. It’s great to have classes running at full capacity again.

Lweji · 22/07/2021 22:04

Assuming you'd be able to. Even with vaccines people have been admitted to hospital. Or not been able to work at all.

Backofbeyond50 · 23/07/2021 13:05

100% wearing masks in Tesco today.

Worldgonecrazy · 23/07/2021 13:12

80% in masks in John Lewis.

Benjispruce5 · 23/07/2021 14:56

100% in Aldi this morning.
