Talking and breathing is now an unsavoury act on Mumsnet.

Best.one.yet. 👏

InFiveMins · 19/07/2021 17:13

I'll never wear a mask ever again if i can help it Grin will wear one on public transport and if in a hospital or GP surgery etc.

Went shopping earlier without a mask round several different shops - lots of other happy maskless people - was great.

Whiskycav · 19/07/2021 17:23

Some peoples talking and (mouth) breathing with spittle, is an unsavoury act.

Was before covid....Will be long after 🤣🤣🤣

whistlers · 19/07/2021 17:29
@whistlers thanks but I'll trust the advice coming from the people that have dedicated their lives to studying science.
That's literally where my information has come from..

gardeninggirl68 · 19/07/2021 17:34
@JordanPickford I for one will not be wearing my mask again (except in medical settings, out of respect). I think too many people feel we have been messed around and lied to by the Government - it's time to decide for ourselves again. And choosing to ditch the masks is one of those choices.
your respect only extends to medical settings? why is that then?

MostlyMaple · 19/07/2021 17:55

@gardeninggirl68 I'm very respectful of people and have been respecting these ever-changing guidelines the whole time.
If a shop wanted me to wear a mask I would do. I wouldn't put up a fight or be obnoxious.
I just think you're more likely be to around vulnerable people in a hospital setting so I will happily wear a mask there.

Yay for you. Hooray, it was just a conspiracy all along.

This was a post that appeared on my Facebook page this morning - the person that wrote it is not known by me and was happy for it to be posted widely so I’m copying it below.

“ I have been wearing a mask since we were first asked to do so and I will continue to do so when I want to or until I feel it is ok to stop . I’m not sure why being considerate to others for the common good is now being mocked by some who are calling it “living in fear”, but it needs to stop!!!... When I wear a mask over my nose and mouth in public and in the stores/supermarkets/pharmacies etc - I want you to know the following:

🟣 I'm educated enough to know that I could be asymptomatic and still give you the virus.

🟣 I don't "live in fear" of the virus; I just want to be part of the solution, not the problem.

🟣 I don't feel like the "government controls me". I feel like I'm an adult contributing to the security in our society and I want to teach others the same.

🟣 If we could all live with the consideration of others in mind, the whole world would be a much better place.

🟣 Wearing a mask doesn't make me weak, scared, stupid or even "controlled". It makes me caring and responsible.

🟣 When you think about your appearance, discomfort, or other people's opinion of you, imagine a loved one - a child, father, mother, grandparent, aunt, uncle or even a stranger - placed on a ventilator, alone without you or any family member allowed at their bedside.....Ask yourself if you could have helped them a little by wearing a mask.”

FWIW I will be one of those you see still wearing a mask but being honest my reasons aren’t just unselfish ones. My hay fever has hardly troubled me since we’ve had to wear one and ( touching wood here) I’ve not had so much as cold. I firmly believe that they must do some good.

I can't understand why people think this is virtue signally at its best. I mean announcing on Facebook how selfless and heroic you are is the height of humble and modest behaviour.

I think that if you can wear a mask, you should - but what a load of self-aggrandizing sanctimonious twaddle this is.

If I had a friend who posted this sort of thing I'd be hitting block sharpish (although I'd probably have done so already because of the Minions memes and 'when you see a robin it's a message from a loved one in heaven' crap they're probably also fond of posting).

ihatefacemasks · 19/07/2021 18:27

I am not wearing one again.

However, I'm hardly jumping for joy about "freedom day". It's just like any other shitty post-March-2020 day, only I am no longer wearing a mask (which is, it's true, a very big positive).

thriftyhen · 19/07/2021 18:29

I'm still wearing a mask. Everyone else I saw today was wearing a mask except one woman in the supermarket who was talking very loudly on her phone about all the children at her son's school who were at home self-isolating!!!

As for this: it is the very, very worst type of sanctimonious crap.

Precisely the reason I don't use social media.

Raaaaaaarr · 19/07/2021 18:32

Common sense really to wear one. Boris is a fool.

Said on MN ConfusedGrin

Went to Asda today. Probably 95% or higher still in masks. Glad to see it

whistlers · 19/07/2021 19:10

Is MN social media?

It's just a forum isn't it

Wingedharpy · 19/07/2021 19:11

I'm a transplant recipient.
I think I will be wearing a mask when out and about, for the rest of my life.

Hollyhead · 19/07/2021 19:38

Wore one most of the time today when I would have done last week, only two exceptions were in the corridor at work which was deserted, and on the outdoor socially distanced school run because it’s low risk and it was way too hot!

Coconut49 · 19/07/2021 20:09

I will be ditching the mask. I have yet to read convincing evidence for them. Even government advisors admitted mask wearing won't stop the increase in infection rates and infection is mostly in private homes and hospitals. I have been doubly jabbed so feel I have done my bit to protect others as I didn't want the vaccination. I would rather risk getting Covid to be honest. And to those who say they are wearing a mask to protect the vulnerable - haven't the vulnerable all been vaccinated now? And if not, then surely they are at risk from any airborne virus and people would have to permanently wear a mask then.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 19/07/2021 20:30

on the shelves lidl said wear a mask but quite a few customers were not wearing them,

GlomOfNit · 19/07/2021 20:45

I wore mine into shops and to get a Costa takeaway, same as ever. Also in the car to take DS and his friends to school (car pooling, avoiding the bastard school bus that has been responsible for so many periods of self isolation). I have too many friends, not to mention elderly relatives, who are compromised although double jabbed, to piss about with their lives. I also really, really don't want it myself or for DH, or the children.

Net result: I continued to do a small thing I've been doing happily enough for the last year or so, and it didn't inconvenience me in the slightest. I'm not a selfish arse though...

Oh, and in our small market town, the vast majority of shoppers were wearing a mask inside shops, and all the shop staff I saw were, too.

MrsSkylerWhite · 19/07/2021 20:52

Went into B&Q first thing this morning. Staff member wearing mask on the door, sanitising stations and distance markers in place. Saw about 20 people including staff, only 2 of whom were without masks, 1 buyer 1 staff member. No hassle at checkout, people voluntarily staying distanced.

Paquerette · 19/07/2021 22:02

@intheheights

Of course I will be. I'm actually wearing it more now than I was a month ago, rates are skyrocketing!
I agree.

I went shopping today, and the majority of shoppers and staff were still wearing masks. I’ve had both of my vaccines, but regardless of whether a mask is helping to prevent me from possibly catching covid, I will still wear one in shops to help protect the elderly/vulnerable/staff.

Titsywoo · 19/07/2021 22:12

Went to Sainsburys today and 95% of people were still wearing masks as am I until it seems a sensible time to do so - i.e. not yet!

Darbs76 · 19/07/2021 22:13

I’m not leaving the house as struck down with Covid (double jabbed) and feel like crap. Enjoy the freedumb!
