@JordanPickford I for one will not be wearing my mask again (except in medical settings, out of respect). I think too many people feel we have been messed around and lied to by the Government - it's time to decide for ourselves again. And choosing to ditch the masks is one of those choices.
How about some respect for the supermarket workers who have worked all the way through? No working from home or furlough for them. Also look around you at the elderly people, a lot of whom would rather go to the supermarket than attempt to set up an online food shop. It’s not a huge deal to just put a mask on when in a shop to protect others.

GoinSouth · 19/07/2021 23:07

Yup absolutely wearing one on public transport and in shops.. no harm in doing so, cases too high to consider doing otherwise. Nothing to prove by not wearing one. I'll chose 'freedom' when it suits me.

NotMyCat · 19/07/2021 23:10

I'm wearing one to protect myself then I don't have to worry about what other people do

Thats not how masks work.

I'll carry on wearing mine, mind.

worriedatthemoment · 19/07/2021 23:14

Will keep wearing one until numbers go down, more worried about covid now than I have ever been and feel its more when we will catch it , rather than if.
Have vulnerable people around me where jab may not be enough
And on a lesser scale of worry cannot afford 2 of us off work not being paid because we are isolating numerous times or have covid it kids do.
I know more people who have covid in last couple of weeks than i have known for the whole pandemic.

Nightlystroll · 19/07/2021 23:16

Masks are an irritation for me but wearing seems the considerate thing to do. In 3 supermarkets today most were wearing them and those that weren't, well, I don't think they ever did.

Glitterblue · 19/07/2021 23:33

I went to Sainsburys today, wore my mask and every other person in there also had a mask on. More than before today!

MostlyMaple · 19/07/2021 23:33

@Paquerette but I've worn a mask for months. And social distanced. And worked from home. And followed guidelines.

And yet covid is still here.

No more mask for me. Done with it.

VirtuallyThere · 19/07/2021 23:33

Ditched it. And it was great to walk around without having to put it on/off all the time. Medical settings are the only place I’d still use a brand new well fitted one if required … even if many of the staff didn’t the last time I visited a hospital. I think there are many people that believe using the same mask repeatedly/touching their faces constantly putting it on/off/adjusting has the same effect as the research which assumes masks are being fitted/worn properly. Regardless, it is personal choice. So if you feel better wearing one for comfort/virtue/control/belief/whatever then go ahead. If not, in most places you don’t need to bother. I’m glad to see others too find the social media passive bullying/boasting tiresome too.

NotMyCat · 19/07/2021 23:46

@FlyingBattie I'm wearing FFP2 and FFP3 ones so yes, I get protection from them

Moonface123 · 20/07/2021 00:03

In sure you will find some people will never stop wearing them, ever. Because there will never be a right time, as long as covid is around, which it will be, forever, they will have them stuck to their faces.

Conchitastrawberry · 20/07/2021 00:36

I’ve not been to the shops today but am going tomorrow! Shopping spree, mask free, can’t wait!

Yes, these people are going to have to wear masks at shops and the like forever since Covid and vulnerable and the elderly are always going to be here. Not something I would ever do but each to their own.
IsabellesMissingSock · 20/07/2021 07:40

I need to go to the supermarket at some point this week and I won't be wearing a mask.

Lemonmelonsun · 20/07/2021 07:42

I'm also more worried about covid than before because its all around me.
Im astonished re what Boris has done.
Why not open up but with a few measure?

Lemonmelonsun · 20/07/2021 07:44

Moon face, no not so actually, when cases drop and the wave passes, drop the mask but to drop it in the middle of a surging wave??

MostlyMaple · 20/07/2021 07:46

I mean this kindly but you'll need to grow out of this fear of covid. We can't live in a state of paranoia forever.
babybopella · 20/07/2021 08:00

Me. I went in a supermarket without one but it wasn't intentional, I didn't have one and had to pop in unexpectedly. I was the only one without one in there, felt odd to be honest and will wear one still in future I didn't feel all that comfortable without it. But I wouldn't judge anyone who didn't wear one at all.

muffins899 · 20/07/2021 12:56

Those thinking they can go mask free into shops and restaurants etc might be disappointed. Most local businesses round my way are still asking people to wear masks to protect their staff (which is fair enough, in my opinion!)

TertiusLydgate · 20/07/2021 13:56

I haven’t been shopping since the weekend, but my husband went to Sainsbury’s today and said about 50% didn’t wear them.

They might be but chances are they won’t.

Some are round my way, which is fair enough I agree. But I will probably shop elsewhere.

I'll wear a mask on TFL where it is mandatory, but not elsewhere.

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 20/07/2021 14:03

I would stop wearing one when cases are low and hospitalisation & death numbers have falling. But while all stats are rising, hell yeah. Idiotically irresponsible not to.

Did you get covid?
Are you ok getting it?

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 20/07/2021 14:18

It's rather like if Churchill had suddenly said "well-it's freedom day from WW2" lets all just stop fighting and ignore the threat and it will be fine.

Nothing bad will happen will it?
That should sort everything.
Those pesky bullets will not harm anyone because I said so.
