I feel as though mask wearers are looking down upon those of us who are choosing not to wear them anymore?

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 19/07/2021 14:50

About 2 thirds of the people in Morrisons just now weren't.

LimeRedBanana · 19/07/2021 14:54

Everyone’s looking at the UK like it’s a complete shit show.

Your PM - in isolation because he’s been in contact with a case, the Minister of Health, no less?! - is a complete farce.

For those in the know..... I'm sure I could google and get different answers but, from today.... when will we expect to see cases from today's infections? Will the rise be instant?

The Netherlands reopened almost completely on the 26th June when daily cases were 498. Its' cases sharply increased 20 fold to 10,283 by 10th July. They have now backtracked and reintroduced some restrictions.

So on that basis I would say 2 weeks.

Morrisons is indeed for the lower classes. Happy to report full mask compliance (aka not stupid or selfish) in Fortnum and Masons this morning.

Backofbeyond50 · 19/07/2021 15:00

Just been to Asda. About 90% wearing masks I would say.

Wonderful news. We need these types fit and healthy. Bins still need emptying, streets swept and toilets cleaned. I shall continue to work from home of course. Can't be too careful.
Xiaoxiong · 19/07/2021 15:05

@Backofbeyond50 DH just got back from Asda and said exactly the same thing!! Almost everyone wearing masks - no change from last week.

Is the Minister for Health supposed to be immune because of their job title then? What a strange way to think In Aldi all by one family wearing masks but they were allowing their children to run round like it was a playground so most people were keeping their distance anyway

Grin I was trying to decide whether your Fortnum and Masons post was satire or whether I should be outraged!

In other countries, where we’re taking it seriously - yes, abso-fckin-lutely!

gardeninggirl68 · 19/07/2021 15:09

@Indigopearl that's scary, such a spike!

Boris on tv later, interested to hear his thoughts

Worldgonecrazy · 19/07/2021 15:12

No doubt insta lockdown (except for MPs on holiday) about to be announced. Grin

RoseWineTime · 19/07/2021 15:18

IKEA was about 80-90% masks plus 100% social distancing.

Well, yeah. I hope it encourages people to wear them, as this is what we need to be doing.
clarkkentsglasses · 19/07/2021 15:22

Binned all mine! Utterly liberating and felt free in tesco earlier

MostlyMaple · 19/07/2021 15:27

@JordanPickford I for one will not be wearing my mask again (except in medical settings, out of respect). I think too many people feel we have been messed around and lied to by the Government - it's time to decide for ourselves again. And choosing to ditch the masks is one of those choices.

Abraxan · 19/07/2021 15:29

Just been to local shops to collect a prescription and everyone I saw in and out of the hops there were wearing masks.

Dd has gone to friends on the bus and all on bus were in masks apparently. She has hers with her as she is going out tonight (bars and a club) and will wear it if it's still the majority doing so. But masks have never bothered her anyway.

Dh is at work in the city centre and has been out and about at lunch time. Most people still wearing masks in shops and the cafes apparently.

whistlers · 19/07/2021 15:36

Are pregnant women exempt?

I am interested why you would wear one in medical settings but not shops or on public transport. Is it out of respect for the medical staff or is it that you perceive others around you to be more vulnerable in this setting or another reason entirely?

NearlyAlwaysInsane · 19/07/2021 15:37

Pret today, most people wearing masks, but not one member of staff and some customers. I didn't feel bothered, which was interesting as I support mask wearing indoors to restrict the spread of the virus. But at the end of the day I can't control other people.

Sainsbury's: most customers wearing masks.

Oxfam: customers wearing masks, people working there were not.

I had to say, I had to make a real effort to check....mostly, I'm not that interested in looking at others and noticing what they are wearing on their faces!

I truly don't care and it didn't even cross my mind as I went about my business earlier mask-free.
Chanel05 · 19/07/2021 15:39

@whistlers

Are pregnant women exempt?
Yes.
MostlyMaple · 19/07/2021 15:39

@Indigopearl thank you for not jumping down my throat and being abusive about my choice to no longer wear a mask.
I will continue to wear a mask in medical settings (not on public transport as I never use it) out of respect for those around me, as there will be a higher amount of vulnerable people around, if that makes sense?
I'd wear it just to put other patients and staff at ease really.

ShanghaiDiva · 19/07/2021 15:40

I was at the gym today: screens still up, one way markings removed and everyone on their way to the gym was wearing a mask.
Lidl: about 20% not wearing a mask. All staff wearing a mask when on shop floor.
Air ambulance charity shop: everyone wearing a mask
