@TheVampiresWife you've put my feelings into words exactly.

billiebeeme · 19/07/2021 13:07

I'm in Scotland so sadly no choice for me. Can't wait to be mask free! However I think I would still wear it on public transport as I would feel bad not doing so. Shops not if I was browsing but if buying something and being face to face then I'd put it on.

If I started seeing more and more ppl not wearing where it was 50:50 then I would begin to think why shld I protect u when ur not protecting me.

MummyPop00 · 19/07/2021 13:14

Well so far today Ive been to the Post Office (1 out of 7 people including staff wearing a mask)

A Nisa Store, 4 people in, one customer wearing.

Launderette, 3 people in, one customer wearing.

Content with my decision so far

The riveting second installment coming soon (possibly)

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 19/07/2021 13:17

I am not totally sure why people get so angry about a choice. As I said down thread I will be wearing mine, I have given my reason and got told I was spreading fake news. Yet I don't question you and what you have read. Wear one, don't wear one. The Government have set out guidance and they are giving us a choice. We are all allowed to make our own decisions now. If I see somebody not wearing a mask I will make the choice to distance myself. If I see somebody wearing a mask, I will still make the same choice.
Really name calling 'dicks' and throwing snide insults is a bit petty on both sides.

Chillychangchoo · 19/07/2021 13:26

@Idroppedthescrewinthetuna

Totally agree.

Indigopearl · 19/07/2021 13:30

I think people get annoyed becuase it is a choice which affects others. A bit like lighting up a cigarette next to someone who can't escape from the smoke.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 19/07/2021 13:33

Me!!

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 19/07/2021 13:35

My sister said she is happy to get rid of her mask. I have told her I won't be.
My DP is CEV. Getting the first shielding letter actually made me cry.
Her household got Covid and they were all fine. We haven't had it (thank god)
However, we don't judge each other.
My DD has chosen to wear a mask at school every day, her friends haven't. They don't judge each other.
I wear my mask because I know how much Covid scared me. I am now in the frame of mind that we will all get it, but so many are still so scared. If me wearing a mask makes others feel better then I will wear it. As I said upthread, our local hospital has been in the news. Again I will wear it. It hasn't fussed me wearing one. At first it was a big thing as I am claustrophobic so I had to practice wearing one in my garden until I ventured out. I coped eventually. Others just can't and I am in no position to judge anybody.

Yes, I agree, but it is a choice we have been given. We should just respect that
SupermanWithTheGreyHair · 19/07/2021 13:42

We should respect each other’s choices. But respect means not treating it like a celebration when so many people will feel stuck in their homes due to this choice. Be mindful that some vulnerable people will feel their life has got much more difficult due to this.

Jocasta2018 · 19/07/2021 13:46

This morning about 95% of people on my rush hour train into Waterloo were wearing them. I'm keeping mine on in shops, trains, etc.

phoenixrosehere · 19/07/2021 13:51

So which are the businesses saying we have to wear them to get in?

Don’t know, but most businesses should hopefully say where they stand whether that’s having someone at the door or a sign of sorts.

The shop I work at all of my colleagues and I are choosing to wear masks despite the company saying it’s not mandatory and all of us having been vaccinated. None of us feel comfortable not wearing them since we work in a small shop which is very hard to social distance in and knowing of the rising numbers and several of us take PT. We were advised it was up to customers (we’ve not questioned anyone otherwise since the beginning in case they were exempt) whether they wear them or not.

I don’t want to wear a mask. I don’t like the feeling on my face and it dries out my throat BUT from what I’ve experienced with the utter lack of SD throughout the whole pandemic I’ve had to deal with and now having cases at my son’s primary school for the last three weeks and not having any before that, I will continue to wear them.

Foxhasbigsocks · 19/07/2021 13:51

@Jocasta2018 thanks for this - you’ve mad my day. Really worried about commuting now and hope this will be the same on my route

Stilltalkstotrees · 19/07/2021 14:02

I'm still wearing a mask. This morning I've been to the gym, to a shopping centre and to the bank. It looked exactly the same as last week, ie 90% of people were wearing masks. Maybe common sense is a thing!

sausagepastapot · 19/07/2021 14:12

Are you people going to wear a mask, WFH and get Tesco home deliveries forever and ever and ever?

What do you think is going to happen? Will you go out next year? In 10 years?

And you do know, wearing a mask DEOS NOT PROTECT YOU, right?

I want to take the risk and live my life- I would rather kill myself than live in this cycle of hell any longer.

Notonthestairs · 19/07/2021 14:23

I've had home deliveries from Ocado for 19 years, I'm hardly going to stop now!

woodfort · 19/07/2021 14:26

On the bus I wore as did most people. At the leisure centre I didn’t wear and actually couldn’t see a single person (out of at least 50 I saw) wearing one, including staff.
I think there will just be places you wear them and places you don’t.

FlyingBattie · 19/07/2021 14:27

No, I am quite aware that wearing a mask protects others from me. I have worked in the office all the way through the pandemic, have never had shopping delivered. I have been out when I wanted to go out (within the law) I will continue to wear a mask in shops and on public transport until I decide not to. I respect everybody else has the right not to if they choose not to do so.

I had the same experience. Maybe we doubted people too much!

I go out as much as ever. I don't wear a mask working from home Confused I'll wear a mask for as long as I consider it prudent - it's my choice and I'm not sure why it upsets you so much. I know that it protects others more than it protects me, and I rather like that.

TheWatersofMarch · 19/07/2021 14:32

I'm carrying on as before - mask in the office when not wfh and in shops etc. I don't see how masks suddenly not needed with infection rates rising. I'm double vaccinated but vaccines don't entirely prevent contracting the virus and I want to reduce risks to myself and others as far as I can.

Indigopearl · 19/07/2021 14:35

I have just got back from a tesco superstore and feel very much encouraged. The vast majority of people were wearing a mask, I would say about the same amount as were last week. It looks like a sense of personal responsibilty does exist in my part of England.

SupermanWithTheGreyHair · 19/07/2021 14:40

Maybe common sense is a thing!

And mumsnet bears no resemblance to what happens in real life. On any subject, not just covid and mask wearing.

ArnoldJudasRimmer · 19/07/2021 14:42

@gardeninggirl68

For those in the know..... I'm sure I could google and get different answers but, from today.... when will we expect to see cases from today's infections? Will the rise be instant?
I'm not massively in the know about this, definitely heading for a spike though since rates are already climbing and now everywhere seems to be open with no distancing, masks, etc. It can take a few days for symptoms to show, unless people are asymptomatic. We caught it while following all the rules, and since it was through one instance of one of us being in work I can say that we felt fine for 4 days until symptoms started.
hahaboink · 19/07/2021 14:49

On my train into London today everyone was wearing a mask, and in Pret, everyone was wearing a mask. More than last week to be honest! I think everyone is worried about getting pinged before holidays. They have taken the screens in Pret down though.
