Yes, we'll be wearing masks, because we're not selfish idiots.

Again, do people think language like this will make people wear masks or people think fuck you?

midgemagneto · 19/07/2021 11:31

Well since none mask wearers have already said fuck you to any vulnerable person , reap what you sow

TheVampiresWife · 19/07/2021 11:34

My god, the vitriol on this thread.

Whichever 'side' you're on you should be ashamed.

gardeninggirl68 · 19/07/2021 11:35

I've had a bit of a rethink due to some threads on the subject and some posters views and reasoning

Not the nasty goady posters but the ones who are reasonable

Right. So you'd rather have he opportunity to insult people than to potentially have a chance at changing their mind.

Well, that makes sense Confused

Thankyou for your kind words on the thread last night. Retail has been tough but it's the nice people that show compassion that lift us
TheVampiresWife · 19/07/2021 11:39

@gardeninggirl68 and as I said on that thread, thanks to you too Smile

Hope the coming days aren't hell on wheels for you (and everyone else in retail, having to navigate through the sort of vitriol shown by some on this thread).

wendz86 · 19/07/2021 11:40

I went to tesco this morning and most people were wearing one. I will be wearing one in shops and on trains if busy but not outside.

Whiskycav · 19/07/2021 11:40

@TheWindOnTheMoon

Just had a text from DH who was at a café. Most people wearing masks, but some not.

He had a conversation with a woman not wearing a mask, who said she was confused as to whether she was supposed to or not still indoors. DH told her he was still wearing mask because of rising figs & admissions. She was shocked, said hadn't known, wasn't following stats, and thought everything was ok now. She got her mask out & put it on.

Seems there are people who don't realise how bad it's getting again & have only heard the government's freedom day message and thought it was all over Hmm

I am not saying this didn't happen. But that woman was talking rubbish and probably lying.

She knew rules were changing today, so didn't put a mask on. So knew that bit, bit some how managed to avoid any information on rising cases, what the rule changes actually were.

Unless she doesn't speak to anyone, avoids all newspapers, TV, Social media etc she can't possibly have not known.

Or maybe she did, but I still don't get how someone can be so unaware. But aware masks aren't mandated.

Pinchoftums · 19/07/2021 11:44

Aldi, pretty busy 1 person not wearing it. Hopefully people around here are going to keep it up. We are an area that fucking hates Boris the twat so we won't have fallen for " freedom" bollocks.

gardeninggirl68 · 19/07/2021 11:47

I know from working in a very large popular retail outlet that lots of people ARE unaware of cases rocketing

Some have switched off and some just don't engage with the media

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 19/07/2021 11:50

I'm not wearing mine, but live in London so will continue to wear it as required on TFL networks.

A few of my favourite shops, cafes etc have said they still require them indefinitely, which has left me conflicted. However, I will be voting with my feet and shopping elsewhere.

SippingWhiskeyOutTheBottle · 19/07/2021 11:52

Are you for real? Loooool. You posted this at 9:46am. Where exactly are people meant to be?

If I was so excited about ‘freedom day’, couldn’t wait to get out there without a mask etc, I’d be making the most of every minute. Or these people could just stay home on mumsnet trying to offend people and get attention by saying they’re not going to wear a mask but not actually venturing out. Sad

EffOrf · 19/07/2021 11:54

I see the vaccine threads have almost stopped, is MN going to be inflicted with loads of mask threads now.

Sorry how do you know they're not out? You know you can access Mumsnet on a mobile, don't you?

The most offensive comments this morning have been those in favour of masks staying by a country mile.

Manzanilla55 · 19/07/2021 11:57

I have been to Asda and other shops this morning. There are definitely more non mask wearers about but most people are still very much wearing their mask.

Chillychangchoo · 19/07/2021 12:01

Popped to aldi this morning. I would say it was 50/50.

I didn’t feel bad for not wearing one. I think as the days and weeks go by more people will remove their masks once they see lots of others doing the same.

ilovesooty · 19/07/2021 12:03

@sprinkleyumnut

The problem is all these places saying we still have to wear them to get in
Good for them.
FlyingBattie · 19/07/2021 12:05

I went on a train today- 100% of people in masks. (not a place where the company has made it a condition of travel)
Tesco- around 80%, I would say

"Freedom day" is bloody awful phasing.

1- it makes people think the pandemic is over - not the case.
2- It's not freedom for loads of vulnerable people who are now forgotten. Including some who have to work in public facing jobs, and have to now deal with maskless clients and coworkers.
3- It's not freedom day for the hospital staff, who still have to wear PPE and may now have to deal with people who refuse to wear masks because they don't have to anymore.

It just makes me think of waving union flags around and ignoring whats going on around us.

Dongdingdong · 19/07/2021 12:13

Nope. I wore mine when it was legal requirement but won’t be doing so anymore.

Dongdingdong · 19/07/2021 12:16

I’ve been on two fairly busy buses today and seen three people on total wearing masks. Bus drivers aren’t questioning or refusing entry to anyone.

@southeastdweller Bus drivers didn’t question or refuse entry to anyone not wearing a mask when it was a legal requirement, so they’re hardly going to start now Confused

And I don't blame them. Not paid enough for the aggro.
whistlers · 19/07/2021 12:17

What we know now is that the virus is actually transmitted via tiny airborne particles that, in enclosed spaces, stay in the air, waiting to infect someone else. So not only does a mask prevent airborne particles from being released into the air, a mask also prevents us from inhaling those airborne particles.

I want proof for this.

TerritorialPissings · 19/07/2021 12:17

I just went to the supermarket and did not wear one. Was very much in the minority. I am more than happy to socially distance, even go into lockdowns when needed, but masks have no proven reduction on transmission and the government have openly admitted they were introduced to act as a reminder that we’re in a pandemic. If everyone used them and disposed of them correctly, I’d take it more seriously. But, excepting a tiny minority, they absolutely don’t.
