I’ve been asked to self isolate? How??

I’ve just got a message and mail from the NHS asking to self isolate for 10 days. I’m absolutely fine, had a PCR test done on Tuesday (day 2 after arriving back to the UK) and that can back negative. All my lateral flow tests, everything is negative. Can I get a test done to get out of the 10 day isolation?

The app seems to pinging left right and centre!
I got pinged and was baffled because I am a carer for my dd and very rarely leave the house. I was given 10 days so knew the contract was previous day and I'd been home all day.
Turns out my next door neighbour tested positive that day so I appear to have been pinged through the wall!!

Invisimamma · 18/07/2021 12:45

You must have come into contact with someone who's tested positive. Probably from the flight, but it could be anywhere else you've been in contact with people. The contact tracers don't usually tell you where it was to protect anonymity.

Whenthedealgoesdown · 18/07/2021 12:46

@TigerLils

That’s nuts ( I am not questioning if you are correct or not don’t get me wrong!) I’m this case pretty much anyone who has been out and about will have to isolate at some point ?! On a plane, train, popping to the shops, whatever…
You won't get a notification from PHE, unless they know your details to send email or text, not sure if they send a letter as some people have no email or phone so they must do, therefore you won't randomly get called if you go shopping, to the park or on a train or bus.
TigerLils · 18/07/2021 12:47

Okay I really wish folks if you read the OP and my further comments. I’ve been contacted by EMAL and TEXT. I DO NOT HAVE THE APP.
Also anyone asking where o have been the last 18 months. Well I’ve been trying to get through this fucking shit without completely loosing it and commit suicide. Yup life has been flipping hard before COVID and that was just the cherry on the top. That’s where I have been… and yes there were times when I didn’t watch the news because it was too much but I haven’t been under a rock.

It sounds like test and trace rather than the app if you have been text and emailed. If it's saying 10 days then it must be someone you have been in contact with in the last 24 hours that's had a super quick test.

In either case the isolation period is ten days from contact. So if you can recall where you were yesterday that should tell you where the exposure happened.

Noterook · 18/07/2021 12:49

To add unfortunately you can't unless you're part of a pilot. I don't know why some people are being harsh, the rules seem to change fairly frequently and a lot of them don't make sense.

Orf1abc · 18/07/2021 12:49

@Katefoster For the vast majority of people, there's no government funding beyond SSP. The covid isolation payment is only available to people already on certain benefits, and then its deducted as income so not much use at all.

There should be more support available, but for most it's either SSP or sick pay from your employer if they offer a more generous entitlement.

Not if you follow safe social distancing guidelines!!!! Which granted can be very difficult to do in some instances like on buses and trains, but otherwise just keep your distance.

None of this is new, we’ve been living with these rules for nearly 18 months, have you not been paying attention? Your workplace will have a Covid19 isolation policy, or should have.

dementedpixie · 18/07/2021 12:50

It's from a contact from yesterday. If its an email then that suggests Test and Trace rather than the app and is legally binding

I don’t have the app I had 3 texts and 2 emails asking me to log on and give my details, When I didn’t I got a phone call
Howshouldibehave · 18/07/2021 12:51

Where were you yesterday then-that’s your answer?

Whenthedealgoesdown · 18/07/2021 12:51

I would check with your workplace as they would know your details to give to T&T

99victoria · 18/07/2021 12:53

There's a lot of confusion and misinformation in this thread - it's hardly surprising the OP is confused!
@TigerLils if you were contacted by Test and Trace and asked to isolate for 10 days then it must be from someone you had close contact with yesterday who gave your name, phone number and email to T&T, or possibly somewhere like a restaurant where you had to give those details when you checked in

worrybutterfly · 18/07/2021 12:53

Did you fly? Maybe some on your flight tested positive.

Unfortunately if NHS have contacted you then you have to isolate.

squiddybear · 18/07/2021 12:53

@TigerLils

I’m so upset, how did this happen? I’ve been so flipping careful, even on holiday! My laptop is at work, how am I supposed to work? Am I going to get paid for this 10 days?
You just said you went to work and used public transport....
Layray · 18/07/2021 12:55

In exactly the same situation here. Flew back from green list country on Monday. Contacted on Wednesday by email and text and told to self isolate till next Thursday. So someone on flight must have tested positive on their day two PCR. I had a negative day 2 PCR and a negative NHS PCR on Thursday (was told by t&t to get one). Also negative daily lateral flow tests too. Despite this I still have to isolate till next Thursday. My mum came with me and she was also contacted and told to self isolate. Another family that were staying at our hotel messaged to say they were told to self isolate after their flight back to Wales. Someone in their flight must have been positive too. Risk of taking a flight at the moment but still very annoying!!

LucyLockhearts · 18/07/2021 12:55

Lateral flow test are only 40% accurate and having done them myself and found it almost impossible to do a throat swab, I fear even 40% accuracy is unlikely - unless someone has a very high viral rate and it's picked up by the swab.

You will surely have got it on the train or at work.

It's someone who knows you as they have your email etc.

Whenthedealgoesdown · 18/07/2021 12:56

You need to check your works policy on paying for isolation, as you can do some work from home, someone could drop your laptop round and hopefully all will be good

LucyLockhearts · 18/07/2021 12:57

PLEASE read the posts before you offer advice!

This is track and trace by email. It's not the app.

It's not a result of the plane trip.

It's probably work or the train in the UK

WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor · 18/07/2021 12:57

I’m surprised you have had this happen yet. I’m in the north west and almost everyone I know has had to isolate at some point. It’s bloody annoying especially when BJ etc don’t even bother.

StormcloakNord · 18/07/2021 12:58

There's unfortunately nothing any of us can do about your struggle to work but as it's test and trace as opposed to the app you definitely do need to isolate for 10 days.

A friend of mine was text to isolate, did a PCR which was negative and daily lateral flows. She only tested positive on the 7th day of isolating so you can see why it's needed.

Ask your work about being paid during isolating.

BREAKING NEWS- HE IS AND IS SJ

BREAKING NEWS- HE IS AND IS SJ

Which rather reinforces the point that he and the cabinet get to pick and choose, unlike the rest of us.

RubyFowler · 18/07/2021 13:01

OP your workplace should have some sort of policy in place for this. If you are the first member of staff to have to isolate you won't be the last.
