I’ve been asked to self isolate? How??

I’ve just got a message and mail from the NHS asking to self isolate for 10 days. I’m absolutely fine, had a PCR test done on Tuesday (day 2 after arriving back to the UK) and that can back negative. All my lateral flow tests, everything is negative. Can I get a test done to get out of the 10 day isolation?

OP posts:

@TigerLils

The thing is though, I can do about 40% of my work from home but not everything… not all the jobs can be done from home. So I’m fucked
Yes, like millions of people in similar situations who are being told to isolate, sadly. Have you not heard about this before?
Howshouldibehave · 18/07/2021 14:32

Trace and track didn’t contact me till until the results of her PCR came through. So beforehand I wasn’t told to isolate. Until the positive result. So someone could of gotten sick Friday. Then it wasn’t till yesterday etc.

But then surely they wouldn’t be told to isolate for ten days? The ten day countdown would have started on the last time there was contact.

Ilikeknitting · 18/07/2021 14:36

I traveled to a green list country so no I didn’t need to self isolate

So why did you ask? You seem to know better than everyone that’s trying to help.

This wasn’t the app. This was actual track and trace. So legal obligation.

You can’t just ignore it. It’s likely someone who they work with. So they will know if you come in

Morally you’ve got an obligation too.[/quote]
I am ignorant about track and trace, I admit. However, you could surely ignore it by just not receiving a text? How would anyone know whether you'd received it?

I am also baffled by the idea of anyone getting someone else's details. I have sometimes had to sign in to places, but I've never given my real details. One reason I don't have a phone is that I want to be anonymous and untraceable, and that was long before Covid.

clartymare · 18/07/2021 14:57

@IRanSoFarAway1 contact tracing on the app is different to checking into venues. See pic - it uses Bluetooth. So if you’re on public transport and it estimates you’ve been in contact with someone for the specified length of time and they later test positive then theoretically as I understand it, yes you could be asked to self isolate despite not giving your details.

However it doesn’t sound like OP has been contacted via the app so that’s not happened to them, I was merely expressing surprise that they were surprised it could happen. Sounds like the confusion lies with the recent holiday though, although even so taking the tests etc doesn’t prevent you from having to isolate if you come into contact with a positive case, which a lot of people don’t seem to be able to get their head around. Probably because the rules are confusing and clunky.

Nocutenamesleft · 18/07/2021 14:59

@celan

There’s so many reasons you have to give your phone number. Hospital details. Gp. Online grocery shopping. They need your address and phone number.

It’s usually a friend who is W close contact. Or a work contact. Both would have your real details. She hasn’t logged in somewhere. This is a close contact. This isn’t the app. This is a proper friend

Nocutenamesleft · 18/07/2021 15:02

@celan

Even if legally. You ignored it. Morally. You’ve got to take into consideration the children who are CEV who you’re putting in danger. My child is 7 yrs old and is one of them.

We’ve had to completely stop going to public places as of right now. I can’t risk it because of this attitude

Oh well. Ignore it.

Put my 7 yr old at risk.

LucyLockhearts · 18/07/2021 15:07

@Celan
How can you 'ignore' by 'not receiving the text'? The very fact you have chosen to ignore it means you have received it!

When you eat out or go anywhere that asks you for your details, that is so you can be contacted if you then come into contact with someone who tests positive. By giving false info you are running the risk of being infected but without symptoms and infecting others.

(I thought after a year everyone knew this?)

Also by giving false details, you may in fact be giving someone's REAL address or phone number or email- and they would be contacted and you'd cause them a lot of worry.

I do hope you understand how your behaviour is very selfish.
And not to know how it all works this far in is inexcusable.

Hoppinggreen · 18/07/2021 15:09

They will text,email and call until they get hold of you. If you don’t respond they may visit.
THis is not the app, this is something you have a legal requirement to do or you could be fined. It’s unfortunate but once they make contact they WILL give you the date of contact, but not the place or person so you know when to isolate until.
When I was contacted I was 5 days into quarantine so that and the self isolation run concurrently until tomorrow

@FreekStar2

Track and trace is not legally binding!
It's Test and Trace and it is legally binding

If you are talking about the app then that is separate from T&T and not legally enforceable

Howshouldibehave · 18/07/2021 15:35

@FreekStar2

Track and trace is not legally binding!
I’m sure Royal Mail will be gutted.

Your ‘facts’ are very wrong.

ApplyWithin · 18/07/2021 15:36

Just don’t do it.

CanICelebrate · 18/07/2021 15:42

Of course you should isolate - like all the other people who’ve had to do the same.
Yes it’s inconvenient and a pain in the arse, but if you’ve been emailed then you should isolate.
It’s irresponsible and entitled to just ignore it.

99victoria · 18/07/2021 15:42

This thread should be deleted. There is so much misunderstanding, misinformation and confusion on it

Hoppinggreen · 18/07/2021 15:49

@FreekStar2

Track and trace is not legally binding!
Well their staff are lying to me then in every call I am getting
Blondeshavemorefun · 18/07/2021 15:57

Would be so much easier if they said a positive case was on Mondays flight from xxx or was 8pm booking at local restaurant

Nocutenamesleft · 18/07/2021 16:11

@FreekStar2

Track and trace is not legally binding!
Yes it is.
Grumpylate20s · 18/07/2021 16:25

Thems the rules, we didn't make them. You'll land yourself a hefty fine and possibly made redundant if your workplace finds out

Thefaceofboe · 18/07/2021 16:26

It’s pretty shit, but this has been happened to people all over the country since March last year... I’ve just finished my 9th isolation from being in close contact with someone, again, which cannot be avoided as it’s at work. I work in a job where I can do absolutely none of it from home, therefore only get SSP, but again, it’s the same for a lot of people.

Unsure33 · 18/07/2021 16:40

@C8H10N4O2

No they are on an official trial
So are other companies and institutions NOT a just the government .
They could have stuck to the trial
They’ll decided not to .

Let’s hope the trial is successful.

Unsure33 · 18/07/2021 16:44

@Hoppinggreen

Yes you are correct . I would imagine they are swamped but track and trace will contact .

cuppaandabiscuit · 18/07/2021 16:56

@roses2

Something doesn't add up here. Your contact was supposedly yesterday with whoever this person is. They know you well enough to give both your phone and email. So they took a PCR yesterday and already got the result in order for t&t to contact you? Hmm
When I caught covid the following happened:- Met a friend for a dog walk in the morning, developed a temp that afternoon, had a test at walk in centre that evening, test results back in less that 24 hours so my friend was told to isolate for 10 days by T&T. It can happen that quickly. The only difference was I had told my friend I'd gone for a test and the result so when she was contacted by t&t she already knew where the contact was.

OP unfortunately you will need to isolate for 10 days. Speak to your work re arrangements to get your laptop home, do some work etc.

LadyDanburysCane · 18/07/2021 17:02

Track & Trace is a Royal Mail service and has nothing to do with covid or self isolation

Test and Trace is 100% legally binding and the SELFISH idiots who give false info when checking into places are contributing to the numbers going up. If you don’t want to risk having to isolate then STOP going out like the CEV people you are endangering had to do in the first lockdown.
