I’ve been asked to self isolate? How??

I’ve just got a message and mail from the NHS asking to self isolate for 10 days. I’m absolutely fine, had a PCR test done on Tuesday (day 2 after arriving back to the UK) and that can back negative. All my lateral flow tests, everything is negative. Can I get a test done to get out of the 10 day isolation?

No.

TigerLils · 18/07/2021 11:54

Really? There is no PCR test I could take? Nothing ?

No you can't.

welshweasel · 18/07/2021 11:55

No there’s nothing you can do, sorry.

valnevavaxx · 18/07/2021 11:56

You must have known you’d need to do this before flying back from somewhere?

SameToo · 18/07/2021 11:57

I think the pcr is to confirm a positive lateral flow. The point of the 10days is that you could develop symptoms up to 10 days after exposure so a negative test isn’t accurate unless it’s negative up to the tenth day.

Iliketeaagain · 18/07/2021 11:57

I thought there was a "test to release" system, but my understanding is that you needed to have booked and paid for that before you arrived in the uk, otherwise it's 10 days isolation with pcr tests at day 2 and ?day 8?

TigerLils · 18/07/2021 11:57

I traveled to a green list country so no I didn’t need to self isolate…

Is the message/mail in regards to your holiday or a contact tested positive?
Where have you been on hol?

fanofsun · 18/07/2021 11:58

Is the message because you’re a close contact? Perhaps someone did on the aeroplane

valnevavaxx · 18/07/2021 11:58

Ah okay in that case it sounds like it’s separate to a return to the UK quarantine, my apologies. If you’ve had a close contact then you should isolate yes- were you contacted by T&T or pinged on the app?

TigerLils · 18/07/2021 11:59

I’ve done all the required tests etc. If you are travelling back from a green list county you do not need to isolate.

OP posts:
TigerLils · 18/07/2021 11:59

I was contacted on email and text message.

valnevavaxx · 18/07/2021 12:00

Sounds like you were in close contact with someone then, which is separate from where you’re flying back from- as PP said perhaps someone on your plane tested positive, for example. You’ll need to isolate.

EvenMoreFuriousVexation · 18/07/2021 12:00

Oh fuck that, just carry on as normal. You have a tiny chance of getting stopped and fined

QOD · 18/07/2021 12:01

From an Amber or Red place presumably?
Have you been gone long ?

QOD · 18/07/2021 12:02

Fuck sake 😂 it took me so long to cross out the ‘hiding under a rock’ that you’d answered green 😆

SexTrainGlue · 18/07/2021 12:02

If it's travel isolation, and you came from an amber list country, you can 'test and release' - take a test on day 5, and if negative you can end isolation.

But if the notification is of a contact in addition to the travel rules, then it's 10 days (no test and release)

Mindymomo · 18/07/2021 12:03

Yes, pretty obvious you came into contact with someone that has tested positive, sorry but you have to isolate until the rules change.

SexTrainGlue · 18/07/2021 12:03

Sorry, slow typing!

As it's a green list country, then it's not travel related, and it's the full 10 days

whatswithtodaytoday · 18/07/2021 12:03

If the contact was Tuesday you surely wouldn't need to isolate for 10 days from today, so it must be from a more recent contact.

nordica · 18/07/2021 12:03

Sounds like someone else you came into contact with on the plane has tested positive and you are now classed as a contact.

TigerLils · 18/07/2021 12:03

Just to clarify, I did all the test I needed to do for travel and coming back. All negative. I also do lateral flow tests just for a peace of mind.

I’ve been back at work for 3 days, commuting on the train so I guess that’s where I picked it up?

OP posts:
DinosaurDiana · 18/07/2021 12:04

Maybe someone on the flight back tested positive.

valnevavaxx · 18/07/2021 12:04

Yes good point- if you’re being told to isolate for 10 days then your contact was yesterday. Did you go anywhere yesterday?
