I’ve been asked to self isolate? How??

I’ve just got a message and mail from the NHS asking to self isolate for 10 days. I’m absolutely fine, had a PCR test done on Tuesday (day 2 after arriving back to the UK) and that can back negative. All my lateral flow tests, everything is negative. Can I get a test done to get out of the 10 day isolation?

@Iliketeaagain

I thought there was a "test to release" system, but my understanding is that you needed to have booked and paid for that before you arrived in the uk, otherwise it's 10 days isolation with pcr tests at day 2 and ?day 8?
That's just for precautionary quarantine in general - it's different if you've actually been in close contact with a positive case.
Cosybelles · 18/07/2021 12:05

Is it definitely legit? Could be a scam email?

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 18/07/2021 12:05

If it’s a close contact, it’s 10 days from that contact. No way to get out of it unless you’re Boris Johnson unfortunately.

I’m so upset, how did this happen? I’ve been so flipping careful, even on holiday! My laptop is at work, how am I supposed to work? Am I going to get paid for this 10 days?

Can you get someone at work to send your laptop to you in an Uber?
valnevavaxx · 18/07/2021 12:10

My work has been telling us all to take our laptops home with us every night for this very reason, as people are being asked to isolate let and right! It’s a nightmare, I agree.

Katefoster · 18/07/2021 12:11

This has been going on for well over a year now I really don't get why it's so confusing. Symptoms can develop up to 10 days after contact so it dosent matter if you do a test every day of isolation you still have to isolate

cookiesandcreamm · 18/07/2021 12:11

Work will need to send you your laptop.
More than likely whilst you've been commuting.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 18/07/2021 12:11

Someone could drop your laptop at your doorstep or you could maybe drive there and someone put it in your boot without you getting out of the car maybe.

megletthesecond · 18/07/2021 12:12

But you've been on a plane. You can't get much more close contact than that. You need to avoid people for a few days.

Katefoster · 18/07/2021 12:12

There's government funding for if you're worried about not being paid

If you get public transport to work - and presumably work in an office - you must realise it's only a matter of time before you're in contact with someone who tests positive?

Can work courier your laptop to you?

Tistheseason17 · 18/07/2021 12:13

You said you've been on a train.
There is your close contact.
Self isolate - please don't ignore.
It's a pain, yes, but are you Boris? Do you have different rules?

ilovesooty · 18/07/2021 12:14

@EvenMoreFuriousVexation

Oh fuck that, just carry on as normal. You have a tiny chance of getting stopped and fined
Charming.
TigerLils · 18/07/2021 12:15

I really don’t think it’s from travelling on the plane … it’s been over 5 days since my flight back. Surely if I picked it up there they would have contacted me sooner, not letting me roam around for 5 days (not that I have been going anywhere than work)

OP posts:
Souther · 18/07/2021 12:15

@TigerLils

Just to clarify, I did all the test I needed to do for travel and coming back. All negative. I also do lateral flow tests just for a peace of mind.

I’ve been back at work for 3 days, commuting on the train so I guess that’s where I picked it up?

You need to get on the pilot scheme
HummingBeeBox · 18/07/2021 12:16

Nope, no getting out of it, that's the point or everyone would. Policy changes imminent but not yet

valnevavaxx · 18/07/2021 12:17

The day of contact is day 0, so if you’ve been told today to isolate for 10 days the contact was yesterday- definitely not when you were on a plane.

It might have taken the close contact that long to get a test and then results.
Caulidop · 18/07/2021 12:18

If there's been a message and email I'm thinking this is track and trace contacting you (as opposed to the app), and they have your details because someone has given your details as a close contact. Therefore it is someone who knows you well enough to have your phone number and email address. Work colleague? Family member? Recent travel abroad is irrelevant, completely separate thing. You should isolate for the period stated.

ZaZathecat · 18/07/2021 12:20

It's obviously from the train or office.

EileenGC · 18/07/2021 12:21

It won’t have been from the plane or your trip. More than likely someone in your office, on the train there and back, a supermarket contact… has tested positive.

User5827372728 · 18/07/2021 12:22

Maybe someone near you on the plane just tested positive?

Boysnme · 18/07/2021 12:23

Friends of ours got contacted to isolate 8 days after they were in contact with someonewho tested positive. They had to isolate for 2 days and spent the prior 8 potentially passing it on had they got it. System is crazy but it’s possible it’s been from your holiday and taken a while to contact you.

TSSDNCOP · 18/07/2021 12:24

Is it track and trace that have contacted you or the App pinging you?

If it is the App your bluetooth might have matched a positive case.
If it is the App, ignore it and switch it off your phone.

If it is track and trace, yep you're staying in.
