I’ve been asked to self isolate? How??

I’ve just got a message and mail from the NHS asking to self isolate for 10 days. I’m absolutely fine, had a PCR test done on Tuesday (day 2 after arriving back to the UK) and that can back negative. All my lateral flow tests, everything is negative. Can I get a test done to get out of the 10 day isolation?

OP posts:
PinkSparklyPussyCat · 18/07/2021 13:01

They're only isolation because of public outcry though!

And if it's proper T&T rather than the stupid app how would they have got OPs details if the exposure was on the train journey?

Hophop26 · 18/07/2021 13:06

@TigerLils I don’t think you’ve been living under a rock, just like a lot of us where isolating hasn’t been an issue until now as it just hasn’t cropped up or affected us so we haven’t needed to think about it much. I live in an area that has had very very low rates, covid was barely here at all until now, it’s now rocketed and self isolating is causing havoc, more than half the businesses here are shut because staff are isolating and almost all the schools it’s causing havoc but is the rules right now. It’s just caught you of guard because you were following the process on testing on coming back into the UK, it may well be someone on your plane but your been out and about since so could be anywhere and right now risk of being asked to isolate is very high in a lot of areas

carcarbinks · 18/07/2021 13:06

This happened to my friend when she came back from Ibiza. She also thought it must have been from the plane as she hadn't been anywhere since arriving home. She had also had the 2 day test by the time she was notified of having to isolate for 10 days.

zoeydollie · 18/07/2021 13:06

Probably someone you work with as they have given your name and contact details.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 18/07/2021 13:09

@TSSDNCOP

Is it track and trace that have contacted you or the App pinging you?

If it is the App your bluetooth might have matched a positive case.
If it is the App, ignore it and switch it off your phone.

If it is track and trace, yep you're staying in.

This happened to my niece at school. Everyone whose bluetooth was in range of a positive case there was told to isolate at home for 10 days and of course get tested.

Turned out the student who was positive was in a different year, on a different floor of the school and the chances of them ever having been in contact was next to nil, but she still had to do the 10 days.

Daisydoor12 · 18/07/2021 13:09

Wouldn’t bank it not coming from the plane. Next door neighbours flew back from green country Tuesday, positive on day 2 test received result within 5hrs on Thursday, not contacted by Nhs test and trace until 4pm Saturday so assume from that plane passengers wouldn’t be notified until last night/today.

nocturnalcatfreetogoodhome · 18/07/2021 13:09

How frustrating!

The ten days start from when you were in contact so if it was the plane will it not only be a week?

Additionally, I may be wrong but are you not allowed out after seven days with a PNR test?

BamberGascoine · 18/07/2021 13:10

@TigerLils No advice re the isolation, I think you are stuck with it but it sounds like you’ve gone in to panic mode. Have a minute, breathe and think about what you need to do.

  1. Check with HR or your line manager on the pay situation.
  2. See if theres a way to get your laptop sent to your house.
  3. See what food/medications etc you will need before the isolation period is up. Book a delivery slot or if that’s not possible ask a friend, request on facebook local groups. People are still out there willing to help.
  4. Unless you’re a hermit like me, arrange to facetime ir zoom friends and family so you don’t feel totally isolated.
  5. If you have a garden make sure you get outside for some vit D and fresh air.
Make sure you have a clearly defined boundary between working and relaxing, grt changed if you have to.

Don’t worry, you can do this. You will be fine and get through it. Unfortunately every time you leave your house or bring anything in to it you run the risk of picking the virus up no matter how careful you are. It may make you feel a bit better if you can work out where you picked it up. Obviously from someone who knows you well enough to pass on your email and phone contact details.

Best wishes

Picklesbaby · 18/07/2021 13:13

I had this it was someone on my flight when they ring you you can ask

me4real · 18/07/2021 13:14

I’m this case pretty much anyone who has been out and about will have to isolate at some point ?!

Yes, it's happening a lot, annoyingly.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 18/07/2021 13:15

In that case shouldn't it be from the moment of contact, so that would be from the day you flew in, not 10 days after day 5?

daisychain01 · 18/07/2021 13:16

@Tistheseason17

You said you've been on a train. There is your close contact. Self isolate - please don't ignore. It's a pain, yes, but are you Boris? Do you have different rules?
I think Boris and Rishi have done a U Turn and will be self-isolating.

Didn't you hear the screeching of the tyres Grin

me4real · 18/07/2021 13:17

@TigerLils You can do this. Perhaps go back and see your GP or a therapist if you've been finding things particularly hard? (I know life's been hard or can be hard for all sorts of reasons, but getting help can make it easier to manage.)

Keep going back and trying different things. There are loads of meds and therapies they/you can try.

BlueSurfer · 18/07/2021 13:18

If you’ve been told ten days from today, you were in contact with them yesterday. Unfortunately, you need to isolate.

Can your work courier your laptop to you?

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 18/07/2021 13:20

Sorry, don't day 5, but still from the day of the flight.

ZooKeeper19 · 18/07/2021 13:20

Can I ask - if you do not have the T&T app - then nothing, no pings no emails no isolation? So this whole system is dependant on people having the app?

catfunk · 18/07/2021 13:21

Blows my mind that people don't understand this after a year.
10 days isolation because symptoms don't develop instantly. You may develop symptoms and test positive on day 9 since your contact with infected person.

BlueSurfer · 18/07/2021 13:22

Pings come from the NHS covid app for voluntary/moral isolation. Texts and phone calls come from Test and Trace and a legal obligation.

No. The app is a separate entity from Test and Trace. Test and trace will work on information given to them by a positive case and will contact people they say are a close contact

The app works on Bluetooth and you won't know who has triggered an isolation period as its all anonymous

catfunk · 18/07/2021 13:23

Op does your place of work not have a policy re Covid isolation ? Surely you can't be the first person affected by this.

FarFromTheMaddingITCrowd · 18/07/2021 13:25

QUESTION

When do you need to self-isolate until?

The message and mail should give you a date and time.

ColettesEarrings · 18/07/2021 13:28

@ZooKeeper19 Not quite. No app = no pings, but you could still be contacted by T&T if someone gives your details after their own positive test.

therocinante · 18/07/2021 13:29

@TigerLils

That’s nuts ( I am not questioning if you are correct or not don’t get me wrong!) I’m this case pretty much anyone who has been out and about will have to isolate at some point ?! On a plane, train, popping to the shops, whatever…
Yep. That's the point. The virus is everywhere at the moment - never known so many people ill in the last 18 months. And they're noodling around for a few days before they test positive coming into contact with loads of people, who then get contacted to isolate like you. It's not nuts, it's the natural consequence of the virus being in the population and there being largely unlimited movement now.

(Sorry to sound blunt - not aimed at you, but the amount of people I've seen being like OH WOW SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE TO ISOLATE THIS IS CRAZY and not connecting the dots to "so many people have to isolate because so many people are positive" is baffling.)

Allthehotchocolate · 18/07/2021 13:33

This exact thing has just happened to us.
Return of green country Tuesday. Sent day 2 test Thursday which came back negative Friday. Both hubby and I have been contacted via text today. We haven't seen anyone since we got back that would have our numbers to report, only been supermarket etc. How often do they contact you does anyone know? The message said to isolate for 10 days from contact but we don't know when that was?

Sorry this is happening to you OP, no advice unfortunately, just sympathy Thanks

ChristmasCovid · 18/07/2021 13:34

@TigerLils

I really don’t think it’s from travelling on the plane … it’s been over 5 days since my flight back. Surely if I picked it up there they would have contacted me sooner, not letting me roam around for 5 days (not that I have been going anywhere than work)
If you’ve had an email and text message someone has actually named you as a contact. It could be the airline at somebody who you work with etc - but it is someone that knows you and has your contact information. What’s your isolation end date? Count back 10 days from then - the day before will be the exposure date. Do you come into contact with a lot off people at work?
