A good start to his tenure as Health Secretary. Sounds about right!

"I thought Boris looked unwell last week. I wonder…"

To be fair, Johnson always looks atrocious for his age so that might not mean much.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 17/07/2021 15:11

I’d take Boris looking unwell as a sign of pressure tbh. He has a tendency to look really unwell when the job is stressing him out. He doesn’t handle it well.

I’d imagine there’s a lot of people behind the scenes pointing out what a terrible idea Freedom day is.

Akrotiri1 · 17/07/2021 15:18

The cynic in me says this is a PR stunt......

rwalker · 17/07/2021 15:22

I don't understand the issue the way we are trying to go forward is with the vaccine reducing the severity of the virus .

The only other option is more of what we had last year we can't go on like that indefinitely .

Lweji · 17/07/2021 15:28

It's not surprising if, among his duties,he's started going around in public visits and increased contact with the public without a mask. It seems almost inevitable to me.

swimlyn · 17/07/2021 15:34

So our new Health Secretary hasn’t got the brains to keep himself safe.

I despair! Sad

tigger1001 · 17/07/2021 15:42

@noblegiraffe

If he has had a positive LFT then he should isolate for 10 days regardless of negative PCR....two kids I know in this situation have been told by 119 that they have to continue isolation in the past couple of weeks. Their close contacts were allowed to stop isolating on the negative PCR, but not the child themselves.

So it will be interesting to see if the rules applying to plebs once again do not apply to the government.

Not the advise been given to coworkers. They were allowed to return to work with a negative pcr test but positive lft. Same at my sons school too.
bumbleymummy · 17/07/2021 15:53

Such a great idea to not require vaccinated people to test and isolate Hmm

noblegiraffe · 17/07/2021 16:01

In the last couple of weeks, tigger? This has been in different parts of the country and I assumed it was because infection rates were now so high.

Don’t be daft. Like millions of others his job involves being out out.

I’m sure he’s mask wearing and hand washing like the rest of us. It only takes one close friend or family member that hasn’t though.

noblegiraffe · 17/07/2021 16:04

Why would you assume that someone so keen to get rid of the rules has been diligently sticking to them?

swimlyn · 17/07/2021 16:08

I’m sure he’s mask wearing and hand washing like the rest of us.

Ha ha ha ha! Of course!

ineedaholidaynow · 17/07/2021 16:08

It will be interesting to see how many positive cases there will be when all the MPs are together next week before their summer recess

Yerp.

Maybe he only sang Happy Birthday through once when washing his hands, instead of twice.

I forgot about that! When is it meant to be coming in?

bumbleymummy · 17/07/2021 16:15

Monday I thought…

noblegiraffe · 17/07/2021 16:16

Anyone who has covid is still legally required to isolate.

From 16th August, double jabbed people and children won't have to isolate if they are a close contact but will have to isolate if they have covid.

bumbleymummy · 17/07/2021 16:17

Don’t have to Isolate if they’re a close contact though. Or when they come back from abroad.

JemimaMoon · 17/07/2021 16:18

#Wembleyvariant

HotPenguin · 17/07/2021 16:20

I wish him well and hope he gets over it quickly but it does show that people who are double jabbed can still catch and transmit the virus.

noblegiraffe · 17/07/2021 16:22

Not Monday though, bumbley for isolation of close contacts, that's 16th August.

Lweji · 17/07/2021 16:24

I’m sure he’s mask wearing and hand washing like the rest of us.

Not according to one of the photos posted earlier on the thread, where he's also shaking hands.

Having said that, given the rise in the UK, I wonder what "the rest of us" have been doing.

Covidforalways · 17/07/2021 16:25

@bumbleymummy

Yes but those coming back from abroad have to be tested, close contacts don't.

So coming back from holidays etc is quite low risk.

bumbleymummy · 17/07/2021 16:30

Sorry, Monday is for travel from amber countries, mid August for isolation after close contact.
LemonWeb · 17/07/2021 16:31

I feel sorry for him. I am double jabbed and have felt crap these last few days. I don’t meet the criteria for a PCR test as I am tired and achy with a headache and sore throat and diarrhoea but no cough and my temperature is below 38. I can smell stuff. So I have taken LFTs this week and they have all been negative, so I have been attempting to go about life as normal but just didn’t have the energy from about Thursday afternoon. I am following the govt guidance and so was he if he didn’t have one of the three main symptoms.
