A good start to his tenure as Health Secretary. Sounds about right!

@HmmmmmmInteresting

And shook hands with this kid two days ago.

A good advert for ditching social distancing

I think that's an old photo.
HmmmmmmInteresting · 17/07/2021 14:12

Anyone else sick of the word 'mild'?

He literally started with symptoms last night, so how can he come out with 'thankfully my symptoms are mild'?

OP posts:
Whiskycav · 17/07/2021 14:12

@HmmmmmmInteresting

He visited a care home three days ago
I really hope to god, non of those residents or staff get it or end up not being able to work.
YesIDoLoveCrisps · 17/07/2021 14:16

Did he have mild symptoms when he visited the care home and shook hands with kids? Bloody hope not.

lonelyplanet · 17/07/2021 14:18

Perfectly timed for the u turn.

RedMarauder · 17/07/2021 14:19
Poor chap.

BBC reports that he was double vaccinated, and that his symptoms are mild.

www.bbc.co.uk/news
I don't think he's a poor chap.

Hopefully he will take the pandemic seriously if he's uncomfortable from his "mild" symptoms.

SunbathingDragon · 17/07/2021 14:19

In my experience “mild” generally means you are not ill enough to need to go to hospital. He could be in bed, unable to move and feeling scared of dying. Or he could have a slight headache and be doing strenuous diy.

Hopefully he makes a full recovery. Too many people have already died and have long term repercussions because of this awful virus.

Oops, my screenshot didn't attach
One of the tweets says it's from 2018. It's only been shared again as he is taking the chess World by storm.

That is not a recent picture of him shaking the kids hand
RancidOldHag · 17/07/2021 14:21

He took an LFT when he felt 'groggy' on Friday, which he says is the right thing to do.

He seems to have missed all the previous messaging about LFTS being for asymtomatic checking. Or is this a drastic way of announcing a change in policy!?

sleepwouldbenice · 17/07/2021 14:24

He didn't have one of the official symptoms though?
Jesus talk about making a drama out of nothing

Lemonmelonsun · 17/07/2021 14:24

Rancid, unfortunately he was probably forced to take a lat flow because pcr seems to have ground to a halt.

Lemonmelonsun · 17/07/2021 14:25

Sleep, the symptoms keep changing and the advice is slow to keep up

What do you mean? Ds isn't allowed back to school until he has a negative test due to bad stomach (both ends). He had it this morning.

Are we unlikely to get the results before Monday?

Lazypuppy · 17/07/2021 14:27

Of course people are going to still be catching covid, its the fact they now have mild sympyoms which is an improvement on last year thanks to the vaccines

RancidOldHag · 17/07/2021 14:28

Nope - he says he's also taken a PCR and is isolating pending results.

(I'm assuming he didn't drive to Barnard Castle to do it)

poshme · 17/07/2021 14:30

@Lemonmelonsun what do you mean PCR ground to a halt?

We got PCR tests on the same day we needed them, and results back within 24 hours on both occasions.

Thewinterofdiscontent · 17/07/2021 14:31

That’s what “ living with the virus” means.

People will get it. And get over it.

Oh thank you for sharing. I was really worrying.

Lemonmelonsun · 17/07/2021 14:31

Posh me.
Your very lucky dh had to wait 5 days and that's with chasing twice (a few weeks ago)

neveradullmoment99 · 17/07/2021 14:32

@titchy

Given Monday's opening up and the inevitable surge in cases that will follow, I do think the timing is rather, um, convenient...?
My thoughts exactly. The heat will be on him v soon.
Zilla1 · 17/07/2021 14:33

Mild is an interesting word. Perhaps the political definition doesn't manage the clinical definition. I'm always surprised when patients don't realise how clinically bad they can be and still fall within a definition of mild.

peridito · 17/07/2021 14:34

Am I the only one thinking this might be a con ?

So that on the one hand the gov endorse opening up ,but on the other are keen to stress that people still need to be careful ?

Which latter point this neatly underlines .

Because of course the outcome of this risky UK experiment in herd immunity/getting this wave over before winter is totally dependent on how the general public conduct themselves .

RancidOldHag · 17/07/2021 14:35

Good point - medically 'mild' means 'does not require hospital treatment' doesn't it?

You can still be really unwell and rough as a badgers arse, and still fall into that category

Groggy doesn’t mean he has a continuous cough, temperature or loss of taste and smell. Just that he feels a bit off colour.
