Last day of dreaded school calling…

Today should be the last day you can can get that dreaded call from school ….the sinking feeling of another child isolating, the stress and anguish it causes, I wish you all a phone call free day! It feels like a big moment for me

Robert Halfon should be asked about that. He's concerned that schools should work hard to get 'ghost children' back into school but is incredibly against making schools safer so that they can return.

Mixmeup · 16/07/2021 12:13

So we are letting it spread unchecked and all just hoping our kid doesn’t end up with long Covid? Doesn’t seem much cause for excitement tbh.

noblegiraffe · 16/07/2021 12:15

Yes, they are removing any restrictions on children and also not vaccinating them. They have decided to go with infecting them.

MarshaBradyo · 16/07/2021 12:17

Under 12s won’t be vaccinated anywhere so yes no matter where you live it will happen.

Over 12 - if they want to use vaccination they are running out of time to get it done before September

JCVI waiting on data, not sure what, maybe death that’s being investigated in US maybe other.

noblegiraffe · 16/07/2021 12:18

They don't have the supplies of Pfizer to vaccinate teens before September so it's not going to happen.

Not really as they contact you if you've been close within the last 48 hours so if anyone gets it over the next two days you could still be contacted
Boodah · 16/07/2021 12:25
@Isittooearlyforagin mine don’t break up until next Friday but after today, with contact tracing moving to track and trace, you won’t get a call from school- and track and trace are very unlikely to identify school contacts, so if you can get through today, you will be okay!
Oh yes of course... ignore my last message

Test and trace could still technically get you though

TheTallOakTrees · 16/07/2021 12:27

No it isn't for everyone @mightyducks

Our school is open another week yet.

But schools are safeGrin

My dc’s school breaks up on weds and are continuing on with the bubbles till then

They are even doing sports day on Monday with one parent being able to attend

So far none of the bubbles have burst at the school. They haven’t had a single case of COVID among the children or staff (it’s a small school)

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 16/07/2021 12:31

Yep, we’ve had the dreaded phonecall this morning. Y9 dd has to isolate 😫.

Oh I didn't know that
Well it's lunchtime and no calls from any of my kids school yet one primary one secondary although DD in secondary has only been back a week from isolating

This! People seem to be under the illusion that we have a never ending supply of Pfizer and the staffing to organise and administer these vaccines at the drop of a hat. We're desperately trying to get 2nd doses into the 30s/40s as the timescales have been brought down to 8 from 12 weeks. As well as dealing with many disgruntled younger ones who want their 2nd vac earlier just to go on holiday and being turned away (that's another thread altogether! ) The next step in the vaccination process is the boosters for the over 50s etc. Vaccinating dc en masse is not on the horizon yet if ever

Same. Although the contact only had a positive LFT so far and I thought isolating for contacts is only after a PCR?
TheTallOakTrees · 16/07/2021 12:35

Test and trace are wrecking businesses with the number being to to isolate.

When will double vaccinated people stop getting these isolate instructions? Anyone know?

MarshaBradyo · 16/07/2021 12:36

I didn’t comment on Pfizer supply but no not under the illusion it’s endless supply.

It is unlikely to be done by Sept.

mightyducks · 16/07/2021 12:41

@thetalloaktrees the 16th of August

Unfortunately we got that phone call today 😖
ineedaholidaynow · 16/07/2021 12:47

Schools should still be able to phone this weekend too, as still within 48 hours contact, or am I wrong

Abraxan · 16/07/2021 12:52

The LEA has told us that it's not until 19th July, not today.
Our school sent out an email to parents with various covid messages and it said that school's responsibility moves over at W end of the day on Sunday 18th.

No, the number of cases is wrecking businesses. Test and trace is simply responding to the soaring infection rate.

Double vaccinated people - 16th August. Same for under 18s.

RedToothBrush · 16/07/2021 13:01

'exceptional circumstances' aka having a child age about 8 or younger who wont / cant tell their parents who they have been playing with at school.

Well thought out policy there.

Of course primary schools will continue to be contacted regularly - whether it will be by test and trace or parents. Its nuts to suggest differently.

And tbh changing the policy for young kids is utterly ridiculous full stop and one again points to the DfE being run by people who rarely deal with children, parents or teachers.

noblegiraffe · 16/07/2021 13:04

Only if you assume that they don't want covid to spread like wildfire through schools.

0None0 · 16/07/2021 13:04
@dirtysofa , Don’t worry you won’t burst my bubble! Lol - the DFE have made it clear that they won’t be talking to schools on a regular basis, only in exceptional circumstances, and it’s unlikely anyone from school will be classed a close contact, so yes, I am being optimistic that this is the end of isolations!
The DFE have nothing to do with it. It’s PHE that decide whether a school closes, or children isolate.

And they will continue for the foreseeable future
