Last day of dreaded school calling…

Today should be the last day you can can get that dreaded call from school ….the sinking feeling of another child isolating, the stress and anguish it causes, I wish you all a phone call free day! It feels like a big moment for me

@olivethegreat

We've got another week. Then we go on holiday! Is the school isolation legally binding and do you get called by t&t? Or is it advisory like the app?
School isolation is on behalf of T 7 T /PHE and is legally binding unlike the app which is advisory.
MarshaBradyo · 16/07/2021 14:12

@Piggywaspushed

The bit where you said all kids would get covid at some point in their lives.
Are you just talking about over 12 and if they are vaccinated?

Even then you can get it and pass it on, but not get as ill usually

Under 12 will likely get it at some point

olivethegreat · 16/07/2021 14:15

@Comefromaway yes but are they actually enforcing it - if we ignore and go on holiday what would actually happen? Do you get calls from t&t for school isolations? O wouldn't have to isolate so where my phone goes would be irrelevant , and they won't be tracking a teenagers ?

My plan is to test daily ie use the 16 august system but 2 weeks early - if needed

Comefromaway · 16/07/2021 14:25

I don't think t & t are calling school based contacts. But I've heard of a few cases locally where individual kids have been reported for not isolating and someone has turned up to check. I'd definitely stay off social media!

Piggywaspushed · 16/07/2021 14:35

You can but this fatalistic 'oh well' might as well get it approach doesn't help. The vaccine protects the majority of people form not getting it at all, or passing it on. And thinking 'might as well get it now' akin t chicken pox parties makes no sense given you can get it more than once.

The particular conversation started with a discussion about the idea of CEV people being told to keep away form unvaccinated people : impossible if you are a child, or a CEV family member of unvaccinated children- so I am confused by the idea that a CEV child might as well get it...

ineedaholidaynow · 16/07/2021 14:40

If we are going down the route of all children getting it, and it is thought 10% of people who have had COVID get long COVID and some children develop T1 diabetes, we are looking at about 3 children in each class suffering long term health implications (and that is ignoring the impact on CEV children). That is scary

MarshaBradyo · 16/07/2021 14:44

I’m not sure I’m following as children haven’t been vaccinated so that part doesn’t apply

Under 12 won’t get it any time soon

Maybe over 12 will and it will start to change outcomes in that age group before they’ve had it

Unsoliciteddeckpic · 16/07/2021 14:50

We made it to the front gate. We're turned away.

Ds has only been back 3 days 😑

You'd have to go back to the original post.
Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 16/07/2021 15:29

Yep, we’ve had the dreaded phonecall this morning. Y9 dd has to isolate

Same here. The head was so apologetic but it is the first time dd has had to isolate throughout the whole pandemic so it's not too bad. And Monday was going to be sports day all day and they were due to finish at lunchtime on Tuesday anyway so she's not missing much.

ceeveebee · 16/07/2021 15:33

Not true everywhere unfortunately, Greater Manchester schools sticking with existing system until next Friday (end of term).

noblegiraffe · 16/07/2021 15:40

That article doesn’t say that bubbles will be sent home, merely close contacts.

ceeveebee · 16/07/2021 15:43

Our school has confirmed that all children in a class will be deemed to be close contacts. As in a squashed primary classroom where they move around all day to work in groups and sit on carpets it’s pretty much impossible to decide who is a close contact

Whatever9999 · 16/07/2021 15:53

Still 3 more days to go here. But pulled my boys out early, taking them on holiday at beginning August and don't want to take the risk

I’ve seen this too, but it will only be advisory, they can’t and don’t over rule national DFE guidance , so anyone in GM next week contacted by schools and asked to self isolate a child will only be ‘advised’ , it will not be a legal requirement, and you can decide whether to follow it, only legally binding advice will be from NHS track and trace , from Monday

OP posts:
ceeveebee · 16/07/2021 15:58

Well, we won’t be able to decide whether to send the kids to school though which is the main issue!

Annon12345 · 16/07/2021 16:03

Im a bit confused when bubbles end for children? I've seen 19th July and 16th August also seen each school discretion for keeping it longer or past July I think but could be totally wrong. Lo nursery have said they'll he keeping in place until at least 16th August?! But then I don't know if as government ending it that means nursery can only enforce them not attending nursery or isolate completely?!? Any ideas?

Strictly1 · 16/07/2021 16:04

Some local councils are asking schools to continue until they break up.

User3billion · 16/07/2021 16:06

We got told to isolate yesterday. I've cried on and off ever since. It's an absolute joke and a completely disproportionate response.

iloveredpandas · 16/07/2021 16:13

@mightyducks DFE have said schools may choose to continue with current bubble rules to the end of term if they wish.

Our school and all schools around us have confirmed they will continue to isolate bubbles as too difficult to change the system for a few days.

Have your school specifically said they won't be isolating bubbles as of next week?

Passthesauce · 16/07/2021 16:30

What happens if a positive PCR is received this weekend, then? DD's class home as a precaution after one child received positive LFT result but PCR only carried out this morning.

I have one due back on Monday, the other got the call on Thurs so is out until after end term. Would really like DD to get back in, she's in Y6 and it will be such a disappointing way to end (tho we've been braced for it..).

Passthesauce · 16/07/2021 16:33

Hmm, clearly should have RTFT.

Arse.

mightyducks · 16/07/2021 16:55

@iloveredpandas DFE have said schools can continue with the bubbles system, but that is a completely separate thing to the swapping over of contract tracing to NHS track and trace - DFE are still fully expecting this to happen on Monday .
Some LA’s are advising schools to carry on doing it though until the end of term , seemingly in Greater Manchester, it’s all very messy ,
My children’s school have said absolutely nothing

OP posts:
JS87 · 16/07/2021 16:59

Our local authority are sticking with bubbles and sending contacts home till 27th. I’m also wondering if this will still be legally binding or just advisory. I have no real issue with them deciding they don’t want to be at school spreading it but if it’s not a legal requirement I’d prefer to take my child out for exercise as long as they avoided other people.

HullIsWorseThanHell · 16/07/2021 17:06

My child has been in isolation since weds. Two positive cases in his class. He wasn't in close contact with either on Monday when they were all in but mostly outside. He's done a pcr today which just came back negative. Isolation period is still 10 days. But if this all happened on Monday he wouldn't have to isolate. Can I take him to his footy awards do tomorrow? I spoke to the club and they're happy as long as he's had a negative pcr.
