Well we are closed now anyway, but reopening the third week of august, and they will be monitoring us then
mumsneedwine · 16/07/2021 13:11

We are going on line from today as it's spreading like wildfire through the kids. So a week on Teams. Again. Could have been avoided if masks had stayed on and a bit of money spent on ventilation rather than PM just saying schools are Covid safe. They are not. And never have been.

This is the newsletter ds's old high school sent out.

"Dear Parents, Guardians and Carers,
This has been a summer term like no other! We have successfully
submitted all of our Teacher Assessed Grades. Everyone is now satisfied that our
processes and systems are effective and robust, and we look forward to
handing out results to Year 13 on Tuesday 10 August and Year 11 on
Thursday 12 August.
We have, unfortunately, had to close the Year 9 bubble this half-term and
instruct a number of other students to self-isolate. As a result, we were
asked to ‘surge’ test in the last week of June which led to a few more cases
in Years 9 and 10 and we are keeping everything crossed that we get to
the summer holiday with no more cases. We have been asked to Track
and Trace for 2 weeks into the summer break. This could mean that we
will contact you if we receive notification of a positive case. In September
we have been asked to mass test on return to school and testing will be
used instead of isolation."

aloysiusflyte · 16/07/2021 13:24

Last day here and email to isolate Ds8 at 8.45am. We have done really well as this is the first case in their bubble all year.

Boris said they are covid safe. As long as no ones in them - it’s when you put people into them that the problem arises.

So he is effectively solving the issue by ensuring that as many kids as possible are isolating, to minimise the number of bodies populating the actual building.

Somewhere in the midst of all of this, the feasibility of being able to educate the

So if a family is on a Spanish island next week and they get an email for one of the kids to isolate, what they gonna do Grin. How is that enforceable or monitorable?
Warhertisuff · 16/07/2021 13:30

@cantkeepawayforever

So what should unvaccinated CEV children do in September? Not attend school until it has 'ripped through' their particular setting?
Better to stay away for a few weeks until it has ripped through than continue attend and be exposed to the same risk stretched over a longer period as the school plays whack-a-mole with a population who are increasingly resistant to continuing testing (or less risk on a daily basis but exposure over many months would offset this).

It would be shit for the CEV, but less shit than the current half-hearted suppression measures continuing throughout next year.

ineedaholidaynow · 16/07/2021 13:31

@Lemons1571 I assume if they have officially been asked to continue to test and trace then it would be the same as if you are contacted on holiday by test and trace.

Kids are going to get Covid in the years ahead... All this avoidance is just putting off the evil day and making it more difficult for CEV to avoid it in the long run.
copernicium · 16/07/2021 13:34

Our school are carrying on tracing until 27th July

BettyOBarley · 16/07/2021 13:36

We got the call, this morning 🤦‍♀️
Can go back in for last day next Friday.

Piggywaspushed · 16/07/2021 13:43

This is simply not true war. I have never had the things I have been vaccinated against.

beentoldcomputersaysno · 16/07/2021 13:44

All primary been asked to test this weekend due to cases in school. My son has only been back a couple of days.

flumposie · 16/07/2021 13:47

flumposie · 16/07/2021 13:48

Posted too soon . Track and trace next week to fill in the gap until 16th August.

Orangesandlemons77 · 16/07/2021 13:48

School closed here as well, a week early, online next week.

I'm not sure which bit of my posts you're referring but to (assuming it was me)?

The bit where you said all kids would get covid at some point in their lives.

user6v87 · 16/07/2021 13:59

JCVI waiting on data, not sure what, maybe death that’s being investigated in US maybe other
Since over-12s still being vaccinated in US, only the UK needs to wait on the data. Also the JCVI is not the regulatory authority, MHRA is. Safety data go to the MHRA, not JCVI. MHRA decide on approving vaccines and monitor data on approved vaccines to decide on safety. JCVI are acting as policy advisers in this instance and it is very misleading of the government to perpetuate the myth that JCVI know most about vaccine safety. The JCVI contains members who want to vaccinate over 12s and members who don't. They can't reach a consensus so it is stalemate it seems. Plus there are personal opinions at play in the cabinet. As for supply, nearly every town has walk-in clinics this weekend - there is enough supply, although maybe not if they have only bought enough for boosters in the autumn rather than over 12s. Why didn't they plan better. the US and EU have enough to vaccinate over 12s.

Piggywaspushed · 16/07/2021 14:01

Also war you implied that if they get it now it will be better because that means they will have had it and can't get it again? Also not true.

user6v87 · 16/07/2021 14:02

And, yes, the government seem to want under 18s to get Covid rather than vaccinate them. Either way, schools will be safer for this in September, although ethically it is dubious given the risks of long Covid for those children and young people who gain immunity through infection rather than vaccination. Plus it seems vaccination offers longer immunity than infection, and probably broader protection (variants etc)

olivethegreat · 16/07/2021 14:05

We've got another week. Then we go on holiday! Is the school isolation legally binding and do you get called by t&t? Or is it advisory like the app?

olivethegreat · 16/07/2021 14:07

Ah just seen reply below about this. But t&t don't actually contact families do they? So in reality it is possible to ignore?

Comefromaway · 16/07/2021 14:08

@Piggywaspushed

The bit where you said all kids would get covid at some point in their lives.
I think they will catch it at some point, but I think that vaccination will prevent it being serious. I know it's only anecdotal but in the last month about 20 out of my daughter's class of 28 have caught covid.

My daughter is the only one double vaccinated and if she hadn't been testing daily she would never have known she had it other than a slight dry throat and feeling a bit tired. Her single vaccinated friend had a "bad cold". Most of the rest were really poorly in various degrees and many are still suffering.
