Today should be the last day you can can get that dreaded call from school ….the sinking feeling of another child isolating, the stress and anguish it causes, I wish you all a phone call free day! It feels like a big moment for me

We got the email last night, my son is now isolating for 10 days just as mine and my daughters comes to an end 🤯🤯🤯

toffeebutterpopcorn · 16/07/2021 08:30

We are now on holiday but the last week of term was ‘stay at home’ (we were told on the Sunday evening) which was - actually - surprising (I’m amazed we got that far without the school / year being sent home).

TheDukeissoHot1 · 16/07/2021 08:30

We’re already isolating, the whole school is shut, kids are due back next week for the last few days of term. But I wish you a phone call free day OP!

IsItTooEarlyForAGin · 16/07/2021 08:32

My kids don't break up until next Friday.
Fingers crossed no bubbles burst before then 🤞🤞

Endofether · 16/07/2021 08:33

🤞 dd hasn’t been on the school bus for ages as there are always cases on it !

mightyducks · 16/07/2021 08:37

@Isittooearlyforagin mine don’t break up until next Friday but after today, with contact tracing moving to track and trace, you won’t get a call from school- and track and trace are very unlikely to identify school contacts, so if you can get through today, you will be okay!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 16/07/2021 08:42

DS doesn't finish until next Thursday and they are keeping the bubble system in place until then.

DirtySofa · 16/07/2021 08:47

@mightyducks - I don’t want to burst your bubble, but I think you might be a little optimistic about next week. From what I have read, test and trace will still be speaking to schools to identify close contacts

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 16/07/2021 08:47

Is that right or is school carrying on with T&T until end of term if after 19th? My youngest doesn’t break up until Wednesday…

FlagsFiend · 16/07/2021 08:49

@Waxonwaxoff0

DS doesn't finish until next Thursday and they are keeping the bubble system in place until then.
I think there are 2 different ideas being muddled here.

The bubble system of keeping children in small consistent groups is likely to stay until the end of term. Imagine the disruption to change everything for the sake of a few days.

But test and trace is not being done by schools from Monday. It will be up to the parents of children to identify their child's close contacts and give the contact details. No school involvement.

megletthesecond · 16/07/2021 08:49

We have another week to go in Hampshire.

mightyducks · 16/07/2021 08:52

@dirtysofa , Don’t worry you won’t burst my bubble! Lol - the DFE have made it clear that they won’t be talking to schools on a regular basis, only in exceptional circumstances, and it’s unlikely anyone from school will be classed a close contact, so yes, I am being optimistic that this is the end of isolations!

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 16/07/2021 08:53

Even in September I’m sure T&T will work closely with cases identified in schools so you would still get a call it just would be from T&T acting on info from school rather than school itself.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 16/07/2021 08:54

That's even worse if parents have to give details to T&T. Then they'll be ringing up every day to check you're isolating. School don't do that.

LindaEllen · 16/07/2021 08:55

Sorry to burst your bubble (if you'll pardon the irony) but if a child tests positive at the weekend, yours will still have to isolate. So perhaps don't celebrate just yet!

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 16/07/2021 09:01

The parents can’t really make an assessment on close contacts so surely school will have to?

ineedaholidaynow · 16/07/2021 09:02

I think test and trace can contact schools to check who were close contacts

Waxonwaxoff0 · 16/07/2021 09:03

How can they rely on Reception age children to remember who they have been in close contact with?

JS87 · 16/07/2021 09:03

Test and trace are apparently only going to contact schools in exceptional circumstances. Im September children no longer have to isolate as contacts anyway.

@Waxonwaxoff0 I assume this is like most Government Educational guidance, written by someone who has no idea about schools and children!

ILookAtTheFloor · 16/07/2021 09:17

The DfE have published an FAQ today and it definitely suggests that it's only in exceptional circumstances that schools will be asked to provide details for t&t.

GalacticDragonfly · 16/07/2021 09:17

It only makes sense if the two things line up - so the point at which schools stop closing bubbles and Test and Trace take over contacting other contacts comes at the same time that it’s no longer necessary for children who are close contacts to isolate.
I can’t understand what they’re doing during the gap between the dates they’ve announced.

ineedaholidaynow · 16/07/2021 09:20

Government probably thought most schools broke up this week

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 16/07/2021 09:21

it isn't the last day.
mine break up on Wednesday.

but yeah, good luck all!
