Today should be the last day you can can get that dreaded call from school ….the sinking feeling of another child isolating, the stress and anguish it causes, I wish you all a phone call free day! It feels like a big moment for me

My DC don't break up until next week but 4 classes have gone out in the last 72hrs so I'm not hopeful we will make it to the end of term Sad

PeonyTime · 16/07/2021 09:30

Having dealt with track and trace last week, there is no way they could do the job of contact tracing the schools do.
DS couldn't give surnames for some kids, and there is absolutly no way I could have provided addresses and phone numbers.

mightyducks · 16/07/2021 09:31

@zingdramaqueenofsheeba , it’s the last day of schools doing contact tracing, regardless of when your children break up for summer holidays, track and trace take over from Monday, and are much less likely to identify close contacts in schools (the definition is changing on who is a close contact- it is now very close and prolonged contact, example given was a child having a sleepover)

@GhoulWithADragonTattoo

The parents can’t really make an assessment on close contacts so surely school will have to?
Nope, the kids will just go uncontacted.
ineedaholidaynow · 16/07/2021 09:36

Does that revised definition of close contact eg sleepovers, apply for all close contacts at work etc, or just school children!

Vanillaradio · 16/07/2021 09:43

Sadly not for us- ds's school don't break up till Wednesday and the head has already contacted us to say all existing systems are staying in place till then including bubbles! I'm not entirely convinced we'll make it till Wednesday!

noblegiraffe · 16/07/2021 09:46

Bubbles staying in place is meaning the logistical organisation of the school in terms of not mixing year groups. T&T will not be sending home bubbles from Monday.

Pinkandpink · 16/07/2021 09:47

I felt total relief when the kids broke up for summer, we are week three of our summer holidays, Scotland.I dreaded going to work and getting the call from school. I can’t afford taking a week off at a time every time there is a close contact in their class. I cried the last time. I’m only min wage and my partner earns just over the threshold to get any help. Hopefully when they go back to school in August they will change the isolation criteria, fingers crossed

mightyducks · 16/07/2021 09:48

@innedaholidaynow , unclear at the moment TBH, obviously isolation ends for all double jabbed and under 18’s on the 16th of August anyway, but that still leaves a month to go… it does seem strange to change the school definition but not the adult one , there was talk of making the app less sensitive to pinging people but nothing confirmed as yet

Dontdripme · 16/07/2021 09:48

Ds and now Dd both isolating. Sad

Vanillaradio · 16/07/2021 09:56

No, the schooll say they will be sending home whole bubblesSad and will still be doing track and trace for next week!

bubblebubblebubbletrouble · 16/07/2021 09:57

Fingers crossed

ineedaholidaynow · 16/07/2021 10:03

@Vanillaradio with the rates in school at the moment sending bubbles home is probably best rather than let it spread through a school with no mitigation in place

Fairyxdance · 16/07/2021 10:04

Mine break up next Thursday. We've been lucky only having one bubble closure this year. But yeah I hope people don't have to isolate who have summer holidays booked.

GalacticDragonfly · 16/07/2021 10:04

I’m now totally confused as to what happens if a school does send children home next week. Would it be just for home learning or would they need to isolate?

Pissedoff1234 · 16/07/2021 10:23

I think that some schools will carry on regardless. As this is just guidance, the schools probably have the right to close bubbles anyway if they have a positive case. As cases are rising, to protect the school community, they may carry on with the same system until the end of term. Obviously some won't depending on the feelings of the people in charge of each school.

JS87 · 16/07/2021 10:31

If schools do send bubbles home next week do you still have to count it as a legal obligation to isolate?? If test and trace are supposed to be taking over then school presumably no longer have the authority to act on behalf of test and trace. So they can keep them out of school but would they legally have to isolate?

Dghgcotcitc · 16/07/2021 10:37

Isolation for under 18s end in august so no you shouldn’t have to isolate in September unless that plan changes.

Howcanthisbe123 · 16/07/2021 10:39

Your wrong actually- get ready......our school brakes up today and the school can still contact you to isolate up to two days after!!!

That’s the cam you don’t want to be getting!!

GiantToadstool · 16/07/2021 10:44

Wow if isolation of child contacts stops completely in August (is it for adults too?) It will truly rip through schools. I assume thats the plan?

toughdaay · 16/07/2021 10:48

Oh god, my DC doesn't finish school till the 4th august as he's doing a week at his new secondary. This is going to be a nightmare

GalacticDragonfly · 16/07/2021 10:49

It certainly looks like it.
GiantToadstool · 16/07/2021 10:52

I mean on balance if there will be a high level of covid around it may be easier/better to have kids not isolate than to isolate and effectively close schools but that does mean they really will have a huge explosion in cases in september/october.

gingercat02 · 16/07/2021 10:54

We finished yesterday. DS escaped isolation but some of his year were out 4 times! He is moving from middle school to high school so I have joyfully unfollowed school on Twitter and uninstalled the comms app

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 16/07/2021 10:57

My 3 break up next Wednesday, have had a phone call this morning to say dd2 needs to isolate 🙄
