49 deaths reported today, 50 yesterday & 42,000 cases plus today, I am feeling very nervous about the weeks ahead... The govt simply have to man up & take ownership of this escalating catastrophe....

@GlencoraP

I have to show my actual test and hand it in so it can't be reused

Not very hygienic! But apart from that they will still have no idea when the test was done unless you have to do it in front of them, or whether it was actually you who did the test, or whether the test was even done or if you just put the reactor fluid on with no swab etc

You should need at least some human material in order to get the control line but a mouth swab should provide that without running too much risk of actually picking up enough virus for a positive test.
TheGenealogist · 16/07/2021 09:05

Add me to the "don't care" list. Obsessing over every case isn't helpful.

Deux · 16/07/2021 09:19

@QueenStromba my curious DD has managed to get negative LFT tests by using a variety of liquids with no human tissue present.

QueenStromba · 16/07/2021 09:22

Then they're not fit for purpose (no surprise there).

Marguerite2000 · 16/07/2021 09:27

No, not horrified at all. We already know the virus is going to burn through, there doesn't seem to be any other option now.

Deux · 16/07/2021 09:29

@QueenStromba I agree! What started her on her experiments was to push the whole test strip into an orange she was eating Hmm. The test strip was flooded and I was sure it would show as invalid but instead it was negative. That said, my DH’s LFT came up as positive immediately when he had Covid.

And you wonder why cheaters evidently can’t cheat a super mutating spreading contagious virus.

A system based on trust, common sense and civic duty of care means few/some following the science for their own protection let alone others and the online market places (some not even discrete) selling all you need - fake test certificates for international mixing, fake test results, fake flowery lanyards with your choice of excuses and yes the world wide whataboutery full of anti science conspiracy Covidiotogy.

And you wonder if these people are forever the problem and never the solution for perpetual restrictions on their most desired home goal civil liberties.

Can’t believe people rather invent ways around science safety protocols than actively doing what every little cumulative possible to make a difference and turn the tide away from the next more deadly wave which may eventually catch up with even the invincible dodging virus so far.

Right - because it's not like is a super contagious virus or anything?

It's so easy for people with no CEV loved ones to make this stupid, thoughtless, glib statements.

ilovemygirls · 16/07/2021 17:53

It’s time to get a grip… we can’t carry on like this. We could be dead this time next - hide away if you want to, but I want to live and make memories with my family before it’s too late. My neighbour had tickets to Wembley, panicked at the last moment, as they’ve barely been out of the house. They didn’t go, but both have tested positive today. Both double jabbed. Most people will have very mild symptoms. On the other side, three people I went to school with ha e been diagnosed with terminal cancer. All under the age of 50. None of them will see their children grow up… they are all now wishing they’d done more the last 18 months.

jenkel · 16/07/2021 18:01

Just heard of somebody at school who has tested positive, went to the final on Sunday. Brace yourself

Chloemol · 16/07/2021 18:06

Why is it the Governments fault?

Try blaming those who went to the football and didn’t follow the rules. As adults they are all aware of the consequences. They chose to go, they chose not to SD, they chose not to wear masks, they chose to hug and kiss each other after goals. All nothing to do with the Government

Lucyk1 · 16/07/2021 18:13

It really doesn't matter about how many cases their are if they arnt hospitalised. It will only be a problem if everyone needs treatment, and if that was the case, the vaccines don't work.

Supermum29 · 16/07/2021 18:14

We have to ease up on all these restrictions eventually. I say this as I’m stuck at home suffering from covid, yes I’m vaccinated and young without any health conditions and it’s absolutely floored me. The containment of the virus relies on people being vigilant and sensible while still enjoying life.
I got one will still be wearing a mask etc after Monday and taking all the same precautions because I don’t want anyone to feel as ill as I currently do or my nine year old daughter who is also suffering.

We do have to learn how to live with covid at some point. My mental health is shot after all the lockdowns and spending nearly all of July isolating, I imagine many more feel the same or worse. At some point you do have to say enough is enough, we cannot live like this forever.

Social distancing and mask wearing were not required for the football. Per the government. Football was a so called test event. Where you were supposed to be either double vaccinated or had a negative lft to attend.
Georgyporky · 16/07/2021 18:21

I've got more in life to dread than some figures that may or may not be accurate.

peppermintpat · 16/07/2021 18:22

Selfishly, nope.

What 'rules' were they breaking?
Tealightsandd · 16/07/2021 18:32

The government is in charge. They choose which rules to make and whether or not to enforce them.

The UK CEO - the government - allowed what happened to happen. People were doing what their CEO (the government) wanted or allowed.

Taxpayers fund their CEO (the government). Don't want to take the blame/responsibility? Then don't take the pay.

Leedsfan247 · 16/07/2021 18:38

But you can’t catch cancer from anyone????

RobinPenguins · 16/07/2021 18:42

I don’t care anymore. You can’t make people sustain this level of fear for 16 months and expect it to have the same impact at the end as it did at the beginning. I’ve got far bigger things to worry about.

BoredZelda · 16/07/2021 18:58

You needed to prove a double vaccine or register a negative LF test.

Very naive if you believe this was checked properly for everyone.

I know someone who works where a test event was held with a fraction of this number. Despite having weeks of planning, proper procedures set up etc, it was impossible for them to check the vax and test status for attendees.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 16/07/2021 18:59

@BoredZelda not naive at all, was just outlining what was required. It went ahead, people chose to go, good on them. I’m sure the vast overwhelming majority were not spreading covid intentionally because they didn’t have it. They didn’t have to wear masks or socially distance as per the rules.

No, I don't believe it at all. No proof required for lft - pointless.

My point was though these were government decisions and people going were following the rules in place for these events re social distancing and mask wearing.

MercyBooth · 16/07/2021 19:36

@BoredZelda And yet members of the public who are double vaccinated are told to mask up when its anywhere else.

I saw the same "but they are double vacced" argument on here re. G7 People can see the double standards and they are fucking fed up with it.
