49 deaths reported today, 50 yesterday & 42,000 cases plus today, I am feeling very nervous about the weeks ahead... The govt simply have to man up & take ownership of this escalating catastrophe....

@MercyBooth

Well the possibility of flare arse men ending up in A and E was quite high. I say men because two doing that ended up in my timeline.
abit off topic but I love your description of flare arse men Grin I heard on the radio The Sun has tracked a flare arse man down (obvs) and he said he did it to lift everyones spirits ConfusedHmm
QueenStromba · 15/07/2021 11:47

@paxman

There’s no pcr tests available in my area today at all so maybe the spike from football and events won’t happen in that no one can get a test.
This has been a problem for days. Try again at 12:30 - they release more then.
blissfulllife · 15/07/2021 11:48

I was in a&e two days ago with a suspected stroke. 164 people being treated or waiting in the department. Only 3 with or suspected Covid. The nhs is already over run and not coping. And it's been that way for years. This government needs to be concentrating on this

tigger1001 · 15/07/2021 11:53

@PopcornMuncher

You needed to prove a double vaccine or register a negative LF test.

Or break in without a ticket. Or use a picture of your mate's negative LFT

The whole thing is a farce now.

Did you need to show a photo of a negative lft?

I don't think you did for Wimbledon, just that one was logged with nhs. Which was just beyond pointless. Order a test, and use the barcode to report the result. No proof of actually taking the test necessary. Just a joke really and only to make people feel safe.

ChequerBoard · 15/07/2021 12:15

@FreekStar2

Every time we allow the NHS to be overrun, the nhs is too overwhelmed to deal with other illnesses

This is nonsense- there have never been so many people in hospital with covid that all the staff from other areas were treating Covid patients. Other illness were on the whole left untreated because patients were encouraged not to go hospital unless it was an absolute dire emergency in order to prevent the spread of Covid. Routine appointments were cancelled and staff not seeing patients. Hospitals have been largely empty apart from the few covid cases in each one. Doctors surgeries have been closed and GPs working from home! The NHS was never overwhelmed.

This is absolute nonsense. Where do you think the huge backlogs of elective surgery (5.8M and rising) and cancer screening (1.3M for breast screening alone) come from then?

I will answer for you as you clearly know nothing about the NHS - they have happened because these services were closed for large periods of the last year due to the pandemic. Now the NHS is trying to run its usual high capacity services plus the next Covid wave plus deal with these massive backlogs.

It is more at risk of being overwhelmed than ever.

Delatron · 15/07/2021 12:46

The issue is that for many they think ongoing restrictions will solve this issue. Well they would if they were forever. Carrying on with endless, harmful restrictions is just delaying the inevitable. We’ll be paying the price for lockdowns for years and years to come already. The minute you open up cases will always rise.

First it was lockdown to protect the NHS, then the vulnerable, then all adults over 50, now it’s everyone. Nobody can possibly contract Covid so restrictions must continue?

For those that don’t want to open up when would you deem it ‘safe’ to do so? Whilst then economy continues to be hammered?

FreekStar2 · 15/07/2021 12:46

I think it you that knows nothing about the NHS @ChequerBoard! Can explain why the screening services were closed etc? Were thy using all the cancer screening wards for Covid patients? Were the radiographers helping out on the covid wars? I don't think they so. As I said earlier, they were closed not because the NHS was overwhelmed, but because they didn't want unnecessary speed of covid in the hospital!

Critical covid patients do require X rays and CTs to check for pneumonia and clots plus these were used diagnostically as PCR tests have a fairly high false negative rate.

Others are starting to bring back mask mandates such as Florida. They are probably where we were 4-6 weeks ago with Delta

No, they are not bringing back mask mandates. Please don't make things up.

Deaths in Florida have been flat since May, at around 35-ish a day.

Kokeshi123 · 15/07/2021 15:08

Missouri in particular has been hit hard and I think had a scramble to get oxygen to a particularly affected hospital.

Missouri is being hit hard becausewait for ittheir vaccination rates are low. Nearly all deaths there are now among the unvaccinated.

Apologies though I did change it slightly

No I'm not, considering up to 1 million people marched in London in May & estimated 2 million in June no masks no SD & there wasn't a spike.

RonaLisa · 15/07/2021 15:43

@PopcornMuncher

No, I couldn't care less
Likewise.
gillysSong · 15/07/2021 15:48

No, as I wasn't there, nor was anyone I'm coming into contact with.

AnotherDayAnotherCake · 15/07/2021 15:49

No, not worried because they wouldn’t be relaxing the restrictions again on Monday if there was any cause for concern, would they?

Care to provide any evidence to back up those numbers? I've not seen any pictures that look like the sort of numbers we had for the Iraq war protest.
Jenasaurus · 15/07/2021 15:58

Is it too soon to count this as a transmission from the football on Sunday, friends hubby went to Wembley, promised his unvaccinated pregnant wife he would keep masked and safe, just tested positive, but wonder if this will be in todays figures or next weeks and if caught on Sunday would it already show up?

The average incubation period is 4.4 days so he could well have picked it up on Sunday.
dilly123 · 15/07/2021 16:27

@QueenStromba

I was there both times & will be next Saturday & yes 2 organisations I know of used drones to measure the approximate length & width of the March to calculate the number of people present. And no obvious the extent of support for the cause worldwide would not be reported correctly on MSM.. just like them saying a few hundred turned out to demonstrate in France & Greece yesterday!!

Have a feeling next Saturday is going to be the biggest yet .. it's an amazing uplifting day, can't wait Smile

x2boys · 15/07/2021 16:27

63 deaths today, I know numbers are still relatively low, but they are steadily increasing.

IndigoC · 15/07/2021 16:28

48,553 cases today.

MerylStropp · 15/07/2021 16:36

Was Wembley an official test event? They weren't even able to check that everyone had tickets, let alone negative test results! Hmm

So you've no evidence at all of crowd numbers then?

Twatalert · 15/07/2021 16:51

@XenoBitch

More people died from cancer today. Sometimes I do wonder if reporting every daily Covid death figure is actualy helpful.
Cancer is not contagious and cases don't increase exponentially.
